Industry-leading, structured care

Every clinician state-licensed

Why MindView

Most therapy in Ithaca has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Ithaca deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Therapy in Ithaca, in short

MindView Therapy works with Ithaca adults 18 and older by secure video anywhere in New York State. We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. There is no Ithaca office and we are accepting new clients.

Ithaca has more demand for therapy than the local supply can absorb, and the waitlists show it. We see adults across Tompkins County by secure video and care continues even when you are elsewhere in New York State.

Insurance we accept in New York

We are in-network in New York with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare.

We check your plan before your first session and tell you what you will pay.

A market where demand outruns supply

Ithaca is a small city with an unusually large population of adults seeking therapy, driven partly by two major institutions and partly by a wider county that funnels here for services.

The result is the thing everyone here has already run into: long waits. Practices with good reputations are closed to new clients. University-affiliated services have their own capacity limits and their own eligibility rules. Private practices that are open frequently do not bill insurance.

We are a statewide telehealth practice, so our availability is not defined by how many rooms exist in one building on a hill in this particular city.

Who we see, and where they are

Adults 18 and older across the city and county: Downtown, Collegetown, Fall Creek, and the three hills, East Hill, West Hill and South Hill.

Clients also connect from Cayuga Heights, Forest Home, East Ithaca, Northeast Ithaca, Lansing and Trumansburg.

We work with graduate and professional students as adults, but we are not a campus counseling service and are not affiliated with any university. We are independent and bill your insurance directly, which for some people is exactly the point.

What people come in for

Anxiety dominates, and here it is very often achievement-shaped. High standards, a comparison-rich environment, and a persistent belief that the pace is normal and everyone else is handling it.

Perfectionism and performance pressure are close behind, and in this market they are frequently the actual presenting problem rather than a footnote to something else.

Depression is common and easy to miss when someone is still producing work. Output holds while everything else quietly empties.

OCD is a meaningful share of what we see, and it responds well to structured, protocol-driven treatment rather than to open-ended conversation.

We also treat trauma, grief, anger, burnout, relationship strain and life transitions.

The structure of treatment

A defined sequence, in this order.

Intake, ending with a 0 to 10 rating of intensity that becomes your baseline. Your history, covering history, health, relationships and stressors, with the right to decline any question. Treatment plan, written collaboratively in your language, including one personal goal you choose.

Then weekly sessions, plus a monthly review using standardized measures. Your therapist puts the trend in front of you. A flat line changes the plan. For people who think in data, this is usually the part of our process that lands.

Most of our work is CBT, structured and present-focused. Where a different approach fits the problem better, your therapist will say so.

Video, and one licensure caveat

For the outpatient concerns we treat, research comparing video-delivered CBT with in-person CBT has generally found comparable outcomes. We keep that narrow deliberately.

The caveat matters more here than in most markets we serve. Our clinicians are licensed in New York only. Sessions can continue anywhere in the state, so leaving Ithaca for the summer is not a problem if you are still in New York. Leaving the state is, and not for technical reasons. If your year involves time in another state, raise it at intake and the schedule gets built around it.

If your needs exceed what weekly outpatient care can provide, we will tell you and help you find the right level.

What does therapy here actually look like?

The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.

  1. The first meeting

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.

  2. The wider picture

Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.

  3. Building the plan

You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

  4. Ongoing

Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.

Therapy here is measured, not guessed

Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.

Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Ithaca questions

Is there a MindView office in Ithaca?

No. We have no Ithaca office and will not imply one. MindView is telehealth only, so Ithaca clients are seen online by secure video. There is no location where we see clients in person.

Do you work with graduate students?

We work with adults 18 and older, which includes graduate and professional students. What we are not is a campus service, so we operate independently of any university counseling center and bill your insurance directly.

What if I leave Ithaca for the summer?

Sessions can continue anywhere in New York State. If you go to another state, they cannot continue while you are there, because a therapist has to be licensed where you are physically sitting. Tell your therapist your dates and it gets planned for rather than interrupted.

Are there waitlists?

We are accepting new clients and reply within one business day. If we reach a point where we cannot take someone, we say so rather than adding them to a list, because a three-month waitlist is the thing most people in this market are trying to escape.

What happens in the first session?

It is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in, some history, and what you want to change, then has you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10 as a baseline.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. We do talk therapy. If medication is worth considering your therapist will raise it and can coordinate with a prescriber, but the prescribing itself happens elsewhere.

What does it cost?

With an in-network plan you pay a copay or coinsurance rather than the full fee, with an unmet deductible first if you have one. We verify your benefits and tell you the number before your first session.
