Why MindView
Most therapy in Staten Island has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Most practices in Staten Island deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Therapy in Staten Island, in short
MindView Therapy serves Staten Island adults 18 and older by secure video, anywhere in New York State, with no ferry and no bridge toll involved. We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare, and we are taking new clients now.
Staten Islanders are used to being told the good version of any service is a boat ride away. Therapy does not have to be. We treat adults across the island by secure video, in-network with eleven New York plans, with your cost confirmed before the first session. The only travel involved is walking to a room where you can shut the door.
The borough that always has to travel
Staten Island is the only borough with no subway connection to the rest of New York City. The Staten Island Railway stays on the island; reaching Manhattan means the ferry, about 25 minutes each way from St. George, or a drive over the Verrazzano. The island actually sits closer to New Jersey than to the city it belongs to.
That geography shapes everything, including mental health care. When the appointment is across the harbor, keeping it weekly means surrendering half a day, every week, indefinitely. Most people stop. Video therapy deletes the harbor from the equation, which is why we think Staten Island is the strongest case for telehealth in the city.
An island of houses, not high-rises
Just under 500,000 people live here (ACS 2024), the smallest borough by population, spread across 57 square miles at the lowest density of the five, about 8,700 people per square mile against Manhattan’s 73,000. It is the borough of houses, driveways, and cars, and of fewer of everything close by, therapists included.
We work with adults 18 and older across St. George, Stapleton, Port Richmond, West Brighton, Mariners Harbor, Todt Hill, New Dorp, Great Kills, Eltingville, Annadale, and Tottenville. About a quarter of the island’s residents were born outside the United States (ACS 2024), and household roots here tend to run deep: people know their neighbors, which is part of the island’s appeal and also, for some, part of why a private video session at home feels easier than a waiting room where a familiar face might be sitting.
The common reasons people call: anxiety, depression, grief, anger that keeps winning, and marriages running on logistics instead of connection. Couples can join the same session from two different locations if shifts and schedules demand it, provided both partners are in New York State at the time.
The shape of therapy at MindView
We tell you the structure up front because knowing it lowers the barrier to starting. Your first session is an intake: your situation in your words, plus a 0 to 10 intensity rating that becomes the yardstick. The early work then covers your broader history and the pressures around it, with every question optional, and produces a written treatment plan you help write, goals in your language plus one that is personal.
From there it is weekly sessions with a monthly check of standardized measures, read side by side with your therapist. Numbers that refuse to move trigger a change of plan, not a longer wait. The backbone of the work is cognitive behavioral therapy, with other approaches added when your situation asks for them.
Does the video part cost you anything clinically?
The research answer: trials comparing therapy by video with the same therapy delivered face to face have generally found similar results for outpatient concerns like the ones we treat. We will not claim more than that, and we do not need to.
The boundary matters too: if weekly outpatient sessions are not enough support for what you are carrying, we say so plainly and help you reach the level of care that is.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- The first meeting
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- The wider picture
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Building the plan
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Staten Island questions
Is there a MindView office on Staten Island?
No, and we would rather be straight about that than imply one. MindView is telehealth only, so Staten Island clients meet their therapist online by secure video. We do not see clients in person at any location, so no session depends on the Verrazzano.
Do I have to go into Manhattan for good therapy?
No, and that assumption is half the reason this page exists. Your session runs by video from anywhere in New York State, with a therapist licensed in New York. The quality of the care does not depend on which side of the harbor anyone is sitting on.
What insurance do you take for Staten Island clients?
UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. Whichever you carry, we verify the benefits and tell you your cost before your first session.
Can I take my session from a parked car?
Yes, genuinely. Parked, private, and inside New York State is all we need. For plenty of clients in shared houses, the driveway is the quietest room they have, and it works fine.
Does my therapist need to be licensed in New York?
Yes. The license has to match where you physically are during the session. Ours are New York licenses, which covers you on Staten Island and anywhere else in the state you happen to be that day.
How fast can I start?
Online booking takes about 30 seconds, and we respond within one business day. We are accepting new clients now.
How online therapy worksWhat happens once I book?
An intake session first, where your therapist hears the situation and you rate its intensity from 0 to 10. A fuller history second, with any question declinable. A jointly written treatment plan third. Then a weekly rhythm with monthly progress measures.
What will a session cost?
In-network means you owe your copay or coinsurance rather than the full fee, with any unmet deductible applying first. We look up your exact plan and hand you the number before the first appointment, not on a bill afterward.
