Why MindView
Most therapy in Albany has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Most practices in Albany deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Therapy in Albany, in short
MindView Therapy sees Albany clients by secure video anywhere in New York State. We are a CBT-focused practice for adults 18 and older, in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. We do not have an Albany office, and we are accepting new clients now.
In the Capital District, 12.4% of jobs are in public administration against 5.3% statewide (BLS and NYS Department of Labor, Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, 2024). That means a large share of Albany runs on the same calendar: session opens in January, the budget is due April 1, and everything compresses until June. We work with adults across the Capital Region by secure video, and we can build a schedule that survives your spring.
Who do you help in Albany?
MindView Therapy works with adults 18 and older across the Capital Region. Clients come to us from Center Square, Pine Hills, Delaware Avenue, New Scotland, Arbor Hill, and the surrounding towns: Colonie, Guilderland, Bethlehem, Delmar, Menands, and Watervliet.
People come in for anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, burnout, grief, and relationship strain. You do not need a diagnosis or a tidy explanation to start.
Therapy on the state calendar
Albany is a government town in a way that shows up in the appointment book.
12.4% of Capital District jobs are in public administration, against 5.3% across New York State (US Bureau of Labor Statistics and NYS Department of Labor, Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, 2024). Add the agencies, the contractors, the advocacy shops and the law firms that orbit them, and a large part of this city works to one calendar it does not set: session convenes in January, the budget is due April 1, and the pace holds until June.
That produces a pattern we see here and almost nowhere else. People book in the fall when things are manageable, then hit February and start cancelling, and by the time the pressure breaks in July they have lost the thread and quietly stopped. The work gets abandoned in exactly the stretch it was meant to carry them through.
So we plan for it out loud at intake. If you know your March is going to be brutal, say so in session one. A schedule built around a predictable squeeze holds up. One that pretends the squeeze is not coming does not.
Being online is what makes that flexible: a session can happen from a private room on a long day without a commute attached to it.
Does online therapy actually work?
For the outpatient concerns we treat, research comparing video-delivered CBT with in-person CBT has generally found comparable outcomes. That is the careful version, and we would rather give you that than a promise.
Telehealth is not right for every situation. If your needs call for a higher level of care than outpatient video sessions can provide, we will tell you directly and help you find the right placement rather than keeping you on our schedule.
How progress gets checked
Your first session is intake and a 0 to 10 baseline. The work then broadens to the rest of your life, with nothing you are obliged to answer, and produces a written treatment plan you co-author, goals phrased your way, one of them yours alone. After that, sessions are weekly.
Once a month you complete standardized measures and your therapist walks you through the trend. If the plan is not working, the plan changes. Progress is measured, not assumed.
Most of our work is cognitive behavioral therapy: you learn to catch the thought pattern driving a reaction and test it rather than accept it. Where a different approach fits better, your therapist will say so.
What people here come in for
Anxiety is the most common, and usually not the dramatic kind. More often the low, constant version: trouble sleeping, a short fuse, and a mind still drafting tomorrow at eleven at night.
Depression is next. Flatness rather than sadness, in many cases. Things that used to matter stop registering.
Burnout turns up heavily in this market, and it is worth separating from depression because the two get confused. Burnout is tied to the load and tends to lift when the load does. When July arrives and you still feel nothing, that is worth a conversation rather than another summer of waiting it out.
We also work with trauma, OCD, grief, relationship strain, life transitions, and stress that has outlasted the thing that caused it.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- The first meeting
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- The wider picture
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Building the plan
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Albany questions
Does MindView Therapy have an office in Albany?
No. MindView is telehealth only, so every Albany client is seen online by secure video anywhere in New York State. There is no in-person option at any of our locations.
Is online therapy as effective as sitting in an office?
Research comparing video-delivered CBT with in-person CBT has generally found comparable outcomes for the common outpatient concerns we treat. If we think you need a level of care we cannot provide by video, we will tell you and help you find it.
What insurance do you take in Albany?
We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare for New York telehealth. We verify your specific benefits and tell you what you will owe before your first session.
Can I keep therapy going through budget season?
That is the main scheduling question we get here. Some clients hold a standing early-morning slot that survives a long day, and some drop to every other week from February through the end of session and go back to weekly after. Tell your therapist which one your spring looks like and it gets planned rather than improvised.
Can my therapist be licensed somewhere else?
No. A therapist must be licensed in the state where you are physically sitting during the session. Our clinicians are licensed in New York. If your work sends you out of state for a stretch, sessions pause until you are back.
How soon can I be seen?
We are accepting new clients and respond within one business day. Booking online takes about 30 seconds.
Will anyone at my agency find out I am in therapy?
No. We do not report to your employer. Your record is protected health information, and your insurer receives only what any claim requires, the same as it would for any other medical visit.
What happens in the first session?
Intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in, some history, and what you want to change, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. Nothing is required of you beyond showing up and talking.
Do you offer couples counseling in Albany?
Yes, by video with both partners on the call. Partners can join from two different locations if schedules require it, as long as both are physically in New York State.
What will therapy cost me?
With an in-network plan you pay your copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee, and any unmet deductible may apply first. Costs vary by plan, so we verify your benefits before your first session and tell you the number.
