Why MindView
Most therapy in Hudson has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Most practices in Hudson deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Therapy in Hudson, in short
MindView Therapy sees Hudson adults 18 and older by secure video across New York State. We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. There is no Hudson office and we are accepting new clients.
Hudson is the Columbia County seat, a small city with a national profile far larger than its population of under 6,000. That combination produces a specific problem, namely a lot of demand for therapy and very few in-network appointments. We work with adults across Columbia County by secure video.
A very small city with a very large reputation
Hudson is the seat of Columbia County, on the east bank of the Hudson River. Its population at the 2020 census was 5,894, which makes it one of the smallest cities in New York State.
You would not guess that from its profile. After a steep decline through the 1960s and 70s, antiques dealers began opening on Warren Street in the mid-1980s, and what followed was one of the more complete small-city transformations in the Northeast: galleries, restaurants, design shops, weekend visitors from New York City and a substantial second-home population. It gets called the Brooklyn of Upstate New York often enough that residents are tired of it.
The reputation does not come with infrastructure
Here is the practical consequence, and it is the reason this page exists.
A city of 5,894 supports a very small number of outpatient therapists. Hudson’s demand for therapy, however, is not sized to 5,894 people. It comes from the whole county, from the weekend and second-home population, and from a full-time community that includes a lot of people in creative and self-employed work.
On top of that, the therapists who have set up here in the last two decades have frequently done so on a private-pay basis, which is a reasonable response to a market with weekend money in it and a closed door for a full-time resident on a local wage.
So the shortage in Hudson is specifically a shortage of in-network appointments. That is what we are, and it is a plainer fit here than in almost any market we serve.
Where our clients are
Adults 18 and older along Warren Street, near the waterfront, and throughout the city, plus the surrounding Columbia County communities: Greenport, Claverack, Stockport, Livingston, Kinderhook, Chatham, Germantown, and Athens across the river in Greene County.
Two populations, one small city
Like several Hudson Valley river cities, Hudson holds two communities that overlap geographically and much less so economically.
One is the full-time, long-standing population of a small upstate city, including many households where income has not tracked the rise in local property values. The other is a newer arrival, often with a New York City income, a weekend house or a remote job.
We are not going to pretend those groups bring identical things into therapy. What they share is that neither can easily get an appointment, and that an in-network video session removes the two barriers that matter most here: cost and availability.
What people come in for here
Anxiety is the most common. Among self-employed and creative workers, which is a large share of this county, it frequently attaches to income that arrives unevenly and cannot be forecast.
Depression is second. Columbia County winters are long and rural, the tourist season empties out, and withdrawal is easy to mistake for a quiet stretch.
Grief is a notable share, often connected to the care of an aging parent, which a great many adults in this county are managing.
Trauma comes up regularly and responds to structured treatment.
Couples work is common, particularly in households built on irregular income or on a move from the city that one partner wanted more than the other.
We also treat OCD, anger, burnout and life transitions. Adults 18 and over only.
Rural distance inside a county with a walkable downtown
Hudson itself is compact and walkable, which disguises the fact that Columbia County around it is not.
For someone in Livingston or out past Chatham, getting to a Hudson appointment is a real drive on county roads, and in winter it is a drive people cancel. This is the standard rural continuity problem, and it applies here even though the city at the center of the county looks urban.
A session that does not require the drive does not get cancelled for the drive.
How care is structured
Four stages, in order, and the shape of them does not vary by who you are.
Intake first, finishing with a 0 to 10 intensity rating that becomes your baseline. Your history second, across history, health, relationships and stressors, with every question optional. Treatment plan third, written jointly in your own phrasing, including a goal you choose.
Then weekly sessions, with a monthly review using standardized measures. You are shown the trend directly. If it is flat, the plan gets changed.
The main modality is CBT: structured, present-focused, skills-based. If your income arrives unevenly, name that at the planning stage, because it changes what a realistic weekly commitment looks like.
Video, stated carefully
Stated plainly: across the outpatient concerns we treat, video-delivered CBT has generally matched in-person CBT on outcomes in the studies comparing the two. That is the claim in full, without embellishment.
Should your needs exceed what weekly outpatient therapy can address, we will say so directly and help you find the level of care that fits.
Getting started
Use the secure client portal to book. Choosing a time is roughly 30 seconds. Insurance card handy.
We confirm what your plan covers and what you will pay before anything is scheduled. One business day for a reply. Prefer a phone call? (646) 493-4007.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- The first meeting
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- The wider picture
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Building the plan
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Hudson questions
Is there a MindView office in Hudson?
No. We have no Hudson office and will not imply one. MindView is telehealth only, so every Hudson client is seen online by secure video. We do not see clients in person at any location.
What insurance do you accept?
UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare, for New York telehealth. We verify your specific benefits and tell you your cost before your first session.
Most of the therapists here are private pay. Are you in-network?
Yes, and it is the main reason people in Columbia County contact us. In-network means a copay or coinsurance rather than a full private fee, and we confirm the amount with your plan before you commit to anything.
I live in Chatham or Kinderhook, not Hudson. Does that work?
Yes. We are licensed statewide rather than scoped to a city, so Claverack, Stockport, Livingston, Kinderhook, Chatham, Germantown and anywhere else in New York State are all fine.
I am here on weekends and in the city during the week. Can that work?
Yes, as long as you are physically in New York State during the session, which covers both. If a week takes you out of state, that session needs to move, because a therapist must be licensed where you are sitting.
Do you take Medicare?
Yes. Medicare is one of the plans we are in-network with for New York telehealth. We confirm your particular coverage and any secondary plan before you begin.
How soon can I get in?
We are accepting new clients and reply within one business day. Picking your time online takes about 30 seconds.
What happens in the first session?
An intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in, gathers relevant history, asks what you want to change, and has you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline.
