Every clinician state-licensed
Why MindView
Most therapy in Cohoes has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Most practices in Cohoes deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Therapy in Cohoes, in short
MindView Therapy works with Cohoes adults 18 and older by secure video across New York State. We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. There is no Cohoes office and we are accepting new clients.
Cohoes sits at the top corner of Albany County where the Mohawk meets the Hudson, inside a Capital Region market where the large local health systems absorb most of the outpatient capacity. We see adults here by secure video, verify your plan before you book, and can usually start quickly.
The Spindle City
Cohoes sits in the northeast corner of Albany County, at the point where the Mohawk River meets the Hudson, next to the Cohoes Falls. It is called the Spindle City, and the name is literal: nineteenth-century textile manufacturing built this place, and the Harmony Mills complex along the river was at one point among the largest cotton mills in the country.
The mills drew workers, particularly French Canadians from Québec, who by 1881 made up more than thirty percent of the population. French was still widely spoken here as a first language into the late twentieth century.
The mills are apartments now. The city is about 18,100 people.
A small city inside a big medical market
Cohoes is roughly ten miles from downtown Albany and part of a Capital Region metro of about a million people. On paper that is well served.
In practice the pattern here is one we see across the region. Outpatient mental health capacity is concentrated in the large health systems and the group practices around Albany, and access to them runs through the same waitlists everyone else in the region is on. Living in a metro area does not mean an appointment is available; it means there are more places to be on a waitlist.
Being a small city at the edge of that metro is the worst version of it. Close enough that nobody treats you as underserved, far enough that every appointment involves a drive across the river and through traffic.
About MVP and CDPHP
Worth addressing directly, because in this region it is the first question.
MVP Health Care and CDPHP are the dominant Capital Region plans, and we do not currently hold contracts with either. We are not going to list them as accepted, imply partial coverage, or leave it vague.
What we do take here is UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. A great many people in Cohoes carry one of those through a national employer, a spouse’s plan or Medicare.
If your only coverage is MVP or CDPHP, we are not your practice. Saying that plainly is more useful than a page that lets you find out at the billing stage.
Where our clients are
Adults 18 and older in Downtown Cohoes, the Harmony Mills district, on Van Schaick Island and near the falls, plus the surrounding communities: Waterford and Green Island across the water, Watervliet, Latham, Colonie and Troy.
Cohoes, Watervliet, Green Island and Troy sit within a few miles of one another across three counties, which is normal here and confusing to describe. Our statewide license makes all of it identical for scheduling and billing.
What people come in for here
Anxiety is the most common. In this market a large share of clients work in state government, healthcare or education, and the version we see most often is the low, constant kind attached to job security, workload and a bureaucracy nobody individually controls.
Depression is second, and in a small post-industrial city with long winters it is frequently long-standing before anyone treats it as treatable.
Trauma is a meaningful share and responds to structured, evidence-based care.
Grief comes up steadily, often around aging parents in a community with deep multi-generational roots in the same few blocks.
Couples work is common, and video suits it when two people work different shifts, which in a healthcare-heavy market is most of them.
We also treat OCD, anger, burnout and life transitions. Adults 18 and over only.
Shift work is the scheduling reality
The Capital Region runs on hospitals, state agencies and around-the-clock operations, and Cohoes households reflect that.
Standard therapy hours assume a nine-to-five day. For someone on nights, rotating shifts or a mandated-overtime schedule, a fixed 4pm appointment across the river is not a plan, it is a standing appointment that will be missed most weeks.
Video sessions can be scheduled around the shift instead of against it, and without travel on either end the window that actually exists is usable. That is the practical argument in this market more than distance is.
How care is structured
Four stages, run in a fixed order.
An intake first, closing with a 0 to 10 rating of intensity that fixes your baseline. A history session second, covering history, health, relationships and stressors, and nothing in it is compulsory. A treatment plan third, written with you, in your words, with one goal you nominate.
Then weekly sessions, plus a monthly review against standardized measures. Your therapist shows you the trend rather than summarising it. Flat trend, revised plan.
CBT is the primary method: structured, present-focused, skills-based. If you work rotating shifts, raise it at the planning stage so the schedule is built around the rotation instead of against it.
Video, stated carefully
On effectiveness: for the kinds of outpatient concerns we work with, research comparing CBT by video against CBT in person has generally found comparable outcomes. We keep that claim narrow on purpose.
Some needs exceed what weekly outpatient therapy can meet. When that is the case we say so directly and point you toward the appropriate level of care rather than continuing to book you.
Getting started
Booking is done in the secure client portal, which takes roughly 30 seconds. Have the insurance card nearby.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- The first meeting
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- The wider picture
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Building the plan
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Cohoes questions
Is there a MindView office in Cohoes?
No. We have no Cohoes office and will not imply one. MindView is telehealth only, so every Cohoes client is seen online by secure video. We do not see clients in person at any location.
What insurance do you accept?
UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare, for New York telehealth. We verify your specific benefits and tell you your cost before your first session.
I live in Waterford or Green Island, not Cohoes. Does that work?
Yes. We are licensed statewide rather than scoped to a city, so Waterford, Green Island, Watervliet, Latham, Colonie, Troy and anywhere else in New York State are all fine.
Do you take Medicare?
Yes. Medicare is one of the plans we are in-network with for New York telehealth. We confirm your particular coverage and any secondary plan before you begin.
How soon can I get in?
We are accepting new clients and reply within one business day. Booking online takes half a minute.
What happens in the first session?
An intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in, gathers relevant history, asks what you want to change, and has you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline.
What will it cost?
With an in-network plan you pay a copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee, with any unmet deductible applying first. We verify your benefits and tell you the number before you book.
