Why MindView

Most therapy in Manhattan has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Manhattan deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Therapy in Manhattan, in short

MindView Therapy sees Manhattan clients by secure video anywhere in New York State, and we are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. We are a structured, CBT-focused practice for adults 18 and older, we have openings, and we tell you your cost before the first session.

Manhattan does not lack therapists. What it lacks is therapists who take your insurance and can see you this month. That is the gap we fill. We are in-network with eleven New York plans, we verify your benefits before you commit to anything, and sessions run by secure video, so a weekly appointment does not have to fight the island for an hour of your day.

Plenty of therapists, few in-network openings

Manhattan is the easiest place in America to find a therapist’s website and one of the harder places to find a therapist who takes your plan and has an opening. A great deal of the borough’s therapy runs on private pay.

Our answer to that is unglamorous: we are in-network with eleven New York plans, we verify your benefits before your first session, and we tell you your cost in advance. No sliding-scale negotiation, no waitlist etiquette. If we cannot serve you well, we say so and point you somewhere better.

The densest county in America, one household at a time

New York County packs 1.66 million people into about 23 square miles, over 73,000 per square mile, the highest density of any US county (ACS 2024). Just as telling: roughly half of Manhattan households are one person living alone.

Living alone in a crowd is its own texture. Therapy by video fits it honestly: the session happens in your own apartment, on your own schedule, with nobody to run into in a waiting room. For the adults we see here, the recurring themes are anxiety, depression, performance pressure, perfectionism that has stopped paying rent, and relationships strained by two demanding calendars.

Where in Manhattan we work

Everywhere, because the island’s length is not our problem or yours. Clients join sessions from Inwood, Washington Heights, Harlem, Morningside Heights, the Upper West Side and Upper East Side, Midtown, Chelsea, Greenwich Village, the East Village, the Lower East Side, and the Financial District.

Manhattan is a thirteen-mile island barely two miles across, and a weekly crosstown or uptown trek at 6pm is the kind of obligation that quietly kills a good therapy habit by week five. Video takes that variable out.

The borough is also more international than its skyline suggests: more than a quarter of Manhattan residents were born outside the United States (ACS 2024). If therapy in a particular language matters to you, ask us directly when you reach out. Our roster changes, and we would rather give you a current, honest answer than print a promise here.

What working with us involves

Care here has a spine. Intake first: the story of what brought you in, plus a 0 to 10 intensity rating that becomes the reference point everything gets measured against. A history session second, covering history, health, relationships, and stressors, where declining any question is fine. The treatment plan third, drafted with you, in your words, with one goal that is personal rather than clinical.

Then weekly sessions, and once a month, standardized measures reviewed together. When the numbers stall, the plan changes. Most of the work is cognitive behavioral therapy, structured and skills-forward, with other approaches brought in where they fit better.

Is video therapy actually effective?

For the outpatient concerns we handle, research comparing video-delivered CBT against the office version has generally found equivalent outcomes. We keep the claim modest because modest is what the evidence supports.

Video is still not universal. Someone needing more than weekly outpatient care deserves to hear that directly, and from us they will, along with help finding the right level of support.

What does therapy here actually look like?

The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.

  1. The first meeting

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.

  2. The wider picture

Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.

  3. Building the plan

You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

  4. Ongoing

Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.

Therapy here is measured, not guessed

Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.

Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Manhattan questions

Is there a MindView office in Manhattan?

No, and we would rather tell you that outright than imply an office we do not have. MindView is telehealth only, so every Manhattan client is seen online by secure video. We do not offer in-person appointments anywhere, so a session never costs you a second commute at the end of a workday.

Why book online therapy when Manhattan is full of therapists?

Because supply is not the same as access. Many excellent Manhattan practices do not work with insurance at all, and paying out of pocket every week adds up fast. We are in-network with eleven New York plans, we have current openings, and your session cost is your copay or cost share, confirmed before you start.

What insurance do you take for Manhattan clients?

UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. We check your specific benefits first and tell you the number you will pay.

Can I take sessions from my office instead of home?

Yes. Any private space works, a reserved conference room included. The requirements are a door that closes, a decent connection, and being physically in New York State during the session.

Does my therapist need a New York license?

Yes. Licensure follows where you are during the session, not where the therapist sits. Our clinicians are licensed in New York, which is exactly what makes treating you in Manhattan lawful.

How soon can I be seen?

We reply within one business day and booking online takes about 30 seconds. We are accepting new clients now.

How online therapy works

What do the first sessions look like?

The first session is an intake with 0-to-10 ratings of what you are feeling. The early work fills in the wider context, then produces a treatment plan you build together, with weekly sessions and a monthly review of standardized measures.

What will I actually pay per session?

Your copay or coinsurance rather than the full fee, with any unmet deductible applying first. Plans differ, so we verify yours up front and give you the exact number before your first appointment instead of after it.

How do I get started?
