Every clinician state-licensed

Why MindView

Most therapy in Rochester has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Rochester deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Therapy in Rochester, in short

Online therapy for adults across Monroe County, covered by most major plans.

We work with adults across Monroe County by secure video. Booking takes about 30 seconds.

Who we help in Rochester

We work with adults 18 and older across Monroe County. Clients come to us from Park Avenue, the South Wedge, Corn Hill, and downtown, and from Brighton, Irondequoit, Greece, Penfield, Pittsford, Webster, Henrietta, and Gates.

Rochester runs on hospitals and lecture halls. Education and health services is the metro’s largest employment sector at about 25 percent of all jobs (BLS, 2026), and the University of Rochester and RIT together enroll roughly 29,000 students (NCES, Fall 2024). Rotating hospital shifts and a semester calendar produce a specific kind of exhaustion, and it is a common reason people reach out here.

People come in for anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, burnout, grief, and relationship strain. You do not need a diagnosis or a tidy explanation to start.

Rochester carries a real shortage

The city of Rochester is a federally designated Mental Health Professional Shortage Area, scored 19 out of 26, covering 88 census tracts (HRSA, designated 2022 and still active). In the same designation, roughly 124,800 people are counted as underserved.

The strain shows up in how people feel. In the city, 18.8 percent of adults report 14 or more poor mental health days a month, compared with 15.3 percent across Monroe County (CDC PLACES, 2025 release). In practice that gap means waitlists.

We are accepting new clients and respond within one business day. Because sessions are by video, our availability is not set by how far you are willing to drive.

Insurance we accept in New York

We are in-network in New York with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare.

We check your plan before your first session and tell you what you will pay.

Winter is part of the problem here

Rochester averages 102 inches of snow a year and about 200 cloudy days, with only 48 percent of possible sunshine (NOAA NCEI, 1991-2020 normals). January alone brings 27 inches.

Two things follow. Low light and long winters are hard on mood for a lot of people, and it is worth naming that with your therapist rather than writing it off as a slow month. And a weekly appointment you have to drive to is the first thing that goes when the roads are bad. Video sessions are the same care without the drive, which is most of why people here keep them.

What therapy here involves

Your first session is an intake, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. The work then broadens across your history, health and relationships, with any question declinable, and turns into a treatment plan you co-author.

After that, sessions are weekly. Once a month you complete standardized measures and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If the plan is not working, the plan changes.

Most of our work is cognitive behavioral therapy: structured, present-focused, and skills-based.

How to start

Pick a therapist from the roster and request a time. It takes about 30 seconds. Have your insurance member ID card ready.

Rochester questions

Do you have an office in Rochester?

We see Rochester clients by secure video anywhere in New York State. Your therapist is licensed in New York, and you need to be in New York during the session. Most people find video easier to keep than a weekly drive, and it is the same structured care either way.

What insurance do you take in Rochester?

UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. We confirm your specific plan before your first session and tell you what you will pay.

Do a lot of people in Rochester struggle with this?

More than you would guess. In the city of Rochester, 18.8 percent of adults report 14 or more poor mental health days a month, against 15.3 percent across Monroe County as a whole (CDC PLACES, 2025 release). Roughly one in five adults in the city. You are not an outlier here.

Can my therapist be licensed in another state?

No. A therapist must be licensed in the state where you are physically sitting during the session. Our clinicians are licensed in New York, which is what lets us see you in Rochester. If you travel out of state, we reschedule rather than meet.

How soon can I be seen?

We are accepting new clients and respond within one business day. Because sessions are by video, our availability is not limited by how far you are willing to drive across Monroe County in February.

What happens in the first session?

Your therapist asks what brought you in, some history, and what you want to change. You rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline, and you set a recurring weekly time before you go.

Do you offer couples counseling in Rochester?

Yes, by video with both partners on the call. Partners can join from two different locations if schedules require it, as long as both are in New York State at the time.

Other New York cities we serve

We see clients by secure video across the state. Nearby cities are listed first.
