Why MindView

Most therapy in Ithaca has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Plenty of practices take Medicare. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Medicare in Ithaca, in short

MindView Therapy is in-network with Medicare and sees Ithaca adults by secure video anywhere in New York State. Medicare covers outpatient mental health delivered by telehealth and your home counts as a permitted place to have the session. On Original Medicare the 2026 Part B deductible is $283, after which you owe 20 percent. If your card says Medicare Advantage we verify which plan it is before booking rather than assuming.

Medicare covers 3,687 Ithaca residents, 11.3 percent of the city, against 16.9 percent across Tompkins County and 19.8 percent statewide. Among residents past 65 the picture is different, 3,068 of 3,174, or 96.7 percent, are on it. Medicare in Ithaca is a smaller share of the city than almost anywhere else on our network, and among the people it does cover it is close to universal.

Who Medicare actually covers in Ithaca

Yes. MindView is in-network with Medicare, and Ithaca adults are seen by secure video anywhere in New York State. Medicare covers 3,687 Ithaca residents, 11.3 percent of the city, against 16.9 percent across Tompkins County and 19.8 percent statewide. Taken alone, that would suggest Medicare is a minor part of the coverage picture here.

The over-65 figure tells a different story. Of 3,174 Ithaca residents aged 65 and over, 3,068 carry Medicare, 96.7 percent, close to universal. Another 619 residents aged 19 to 64 also carry it, a reminder that the program reaches people through disability and other pathways as well as through age. Small share of the city overall, near-total coverage among the group it serves.

That contrast is worth reporting plainly, without reading it as a statement about the city beyond what it actually shows. It describes how Medicare’s reach is distributed across Ithaca’s age structure, and nothing about why the city’s overall share sits where it does.

What Original Medicare pays for therapy

Original Medicare Part B covers outpatient mental health care, therapy included, and that coverage extends fully to sessions delivered by telehealth. There is no separate, lesser version of the benefit for video visits. The rules governing what is covered are the same whether a session happens in an office or from a kitchen table.

The standard Part B monthly premium in 2026 is $202.90, separate from the per-session cost of a therapy visit itself. That premium is paid regardless of how much care is used in a given month, and it is worth distinguishing from the deductible and coinsurance that apply specifically to services received.

Some beneficiaries pay more than the standard premium based on income, an adjustment set at the federal level and unrelated to anything specific to therapy or to Tompkins County. It affects the monthly premium, not the per-session deductible and coinsurance that govern what a specific visit costs.

The deductible, then the twenty percent

The arithmetic on Original Medicare is straightforward once the two numbers are known. In 2026 the Part B annual deductible is $283. Once that is met for the year, 20 percent coinsurance applies to each session’s allowed amount, and Medicare pays the remaining 80 percent.

A supplement plan or secondary insurance can change what that 20 percent actually costs out of pocket, sometimes covering it entirely. We ask whether a second card is held specifically because of this, since two people both on Original Medicare can face very different real costs depending on what else they carry. The deductible itself is annual, not per service, so once it is met through any covered Medicare service the coinsurance rate applies from that point forward without being charged again.

None of that arithmetic depends on where in New York a person lives or which telehealth market they book from. The $283 deductible and the 20 percent coinsurance rate are federal figures, unchanged by geography, which is one part of Original Medicare that stays consistent no matter where a session happens.

Your home is a permitted place of care

Medicare telehealth for mental health carries no rural restriction and no requirement to be at a clinic, hospital, or other approved facility for a session. Your home is a permitted place of service, and that has been true regardless of where in New York State you live.

This matters in an ordinary way for anyone managing mobility limits, transportation gaps, or a schedule that leaves no room for travel to and from an appointment. The benefit works the same whether you are in Ithaca proper or anywhere else in New York State during the session. The one condition that matters is the state line, not the specific address, since our clinicians are licensed in New York and a session has to happen while you are physically located somewhere inside it.

If your card says Advantage

A Medicare Advantage card looks similar to an Original Medicare card but works differently underneath, with its own network rules set by the private insurer administering the plan. We do not assume network status for any Medicare Advantage plan, and we are not going to state which specific Advantage plans are or are not in-network here, because that varies plan by plan and changes from year to year.

What we do instead is verify which specific Advantage plan a card represents before booking, so a reader gets an accurate answer for their plan rather than a general one that might not apply. Advantage plans change their networks from one plan year to the next, sometimes without much notice to members, which is exactly why every card gets checked on its own rather than an answer being extended forward from a prior year.

When there is a second card

Holding two cards is common among people covered by Medicare, whether that second card is a supplement plan, an employer plan still in effect, or Medicaid alongside Medicare. Which plan is primary determines the order benefits are applied, and getting that order right is part of the same check that happens before booking.

Nobody needs to already understand how coordination of benefits works before reaching out. Whatever cards are on hand at the time of booking are enough to start, and the specifics get sorted out as part of the same conversation.

This applies equally to Ithaca residents who are still working past 65 and to those who transitioned onto Medicare years ago. Either situation is common enough that a benefits check is built to handle it as a matter of course, not as an exception.

Booking without a referral you may not need

Adults 18 and older across Ithaca reach MindView on Medicare, whether Original Medicare or a specific Advantage plan that has been verified. People come in for depression, anxiety, grief, the kind of life transitions that come with later decades, and the emotional weight that often travels alongside chronic pain or illness.

MindView has no office in Ithaca, and every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York. See the Ithaca location page for the full list of plans covered here, part of MindView’s statewide New York coverage.

Original Medicare does not require a referral for outpatient therapy, and neither do most Advantage plans, though a small number of plan designs add a step. That is one of the details a benefits check confirms rather than something to research in advance.

Have your Medicare card ready, along with any supplement or Advantage card you also carry. Book online; it takes about 30 seconds. We verify your specific coverage and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled, deductible and any secondary coverage included.

A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. A recurring weekly time gets set before the session ends, with the cost already confirmed.

How to book with Medicare

  1. 1

Have your Medicare card ready, along with any supplement or Advantage card you also carry.

  2. 2

Book online. It takes about 30 seconds.

  3. 3

We verify your specific coverage, Original Medicare or Advantage, and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled.

  4. 4

Your first session is an intake, by secure video from home or anywhere in New York State.

What does therapy here actually look like?

The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.

  1. Getting started

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.

  2. Mapping what is behind it

Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.

  3. Writing the plan together

You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

  4. Ongoing

Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.

Therapy here is measured, not guessed

Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.

Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Medicare questions

My card says Medicare Advantage. Is that the same thing?

No, and this is a distinction worth getting right. We do not assume network status for any Medicare Advantage plan. We verify which specific plan your card represents before booking, rather than treating it as automatically interchangeable with Original Medicare.

Do I have to travel anywhere for a Medicare telehealth session?

No. Your home is a permitted place of service for Medicare mental health telehealth, with no rural or originating-site restriction on this particular benefit. You can have your session from wherever you are, as long as you are inside New York State.

What will Original Medicare cost me per session?

In 2026 the Part B annual deductible is $283. After that you owe 20 percent coinsurance on the allowed amount. A supplement or secondary plan can lower what that 20 percent actually costs you, which is part of what we check before your first session.

I am 66 and still working with an employer plan. Which one pays?

It depends on which plan is primary, and that is exactly the check we run before booking. 3,068 of 3,174 Ithaca residents past 65 are on Medicare, so holding a second card alongside it is not unusual, and we work out which one applies.

Does MindView have an Ithaca office?

No. Every Ithaca session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York State, from anywhere inside it, including from home. MindView's offices are in Queens and Buffalo, named as offices rather than places where Ithaca clients are seen in person.
