Every clinician state-licensed
Why MindView
Most therapy in Oneonta has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Most practices in Oneonta deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Therapy in Oneonta, in short
MindView Therapy works with Oneonta adults 18 and older by secure video across New York State. We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. There is no Oneonta office and we are accepting new clients.
Oneonta is a small Otsego County city with two colleges inside it, which means its population swings by thousands between semester and summer. We see adults across Otsego County by secure video.
The City of the Hills
Oneonta sits in southern Otsego County, in hill country at the northern edge of Appalachia, and calls itself the City of the Hills. Its population at the 2020 census was 13,079, and the town of Oneonta, a separate jurisdiction, surrounds it.
Two colleges sit inside the city: SUNY Oneonta, with roughly 5,800 students, and Hartwick College, with about 1,500. Together they represent a very large fraction of the people present here during term.
A population that changes size twice a year
That is the defining feature of this market, and it affects care in ways that are worth setting out properly.
Roughly seven thousand students against a resident population of thirteen thousand means Oneonta in October and Oneonta in July are meaningfully different places. Demand for services, the availability of appointments, and the character of the city all shift with the academic calendar.
For therapy this creates two distinct problems.
For year-round residents, local capacity is measured against the swollen population and still competes with it. The permanent community absorbs the constraint without the campus services that students can use.
For students, the problem is continuity. Campus counseling services are typically limited in session count and unavailable outside term. A course of therapy that begins in October and stops at winter break, resumes, then ends in May is not really a course of therapy.
The licensure point students should read first
This is the most important practical detail on this page for anyone attending either college, and it catches people out every year.
A therapist must be licensed in the state where the client is physically sitting during the session. Our clinicians are licensed in New York.
That means we can see you while you are in Oneonta, and we cannot see you once you have gone home to New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts or anywhere else out of state. Not by preference, but as a matter of law.
If you are a student considering starting therapy here, plan for that at the beginning. It is workable for someone who stays in New York year-round and awkward for someone who does not, and it is far better known in September than discovered in May.
Insurance we accept in New York
We are in-network in New York with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare.
We check your plan before your first session and tell you what you will pay.
Where our clients are
Adults 18 and older in Downtown Oneonta, the Main Street district, the West End and the Sixth Ward, plus the surrounding communities: Otego, Milford, Laurens, Unadilla, Sidney and Cooperstown to the north.
What people come in for here
Anxiety is the most common presentation across both populations, though it looks different in each. Among students it is frequently academic and social. Among year-round residents it attaches to work, money, health and family responsibility.
Depression is second. The hills are beautiful and the winters are long and dark, and in a rural county that combination is a familiar contributor.
Trauma is a meaningful share and responds to structured, evidence-based treatment.
Grief comes up steadily, often layered.
Couples work is common among the permanent population.
We also treat OCD, anger, burnout and life transitions. Adults 18 and over only.
Rural distance behind a walkable downtown
Oneonta itself is compact. Otsego County is not.
For someone in Laurens or out past Milford, an appointment in Oneonta is a real drive on hill roads, and between December and March it is a drive that gets cancelled. That is the standard rural continuity problem, and it applies here even though the city at the centre feels urban enough to disguise it.
A session that requires no drive does not get cancelled because of one.
How care is structured
Four stages, in a fixed order.
Intake first, ending with a 0 to 10 intensity rating that becomes your baseline. Your history second, across history, health, relationships and stressors, with every question declinable. Treatment plan third, written with you in your own words, including one goal you choose. If your year runs on an academic calendar, this is the stage to say so.
Then weekly sessions, with a monthly review using standardized measures. Your therapist shows you the trend. A flat one changes the plan.
CBT is the main approach: structured, present-focused and skills-based.
Video, stated carefully
Stated plainly: across the outpatient concerns we treat, video-delivered CBT has generally matched in-person CBT on outcomes in the studies comparing the two. That is the claim in full, without embellishment.
Should your needs exceed what weekly outpatient therapy can address, we will say so directly and help you find the level of care that fits.
Getting started
Booking starts at the secure client portal, where picking a time takes around 30 seconds. Insurance card nearby.
We verify the benefits, give you the number up front, and schedule your first session. Expect a response within one business day. You can also call (646) 493-4007.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- The first meeting
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- The wider picture
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Building the plan
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Oneonta questions
Do you have an office in Oneonta?
No. MindView has no Oneonta office and we will not imply one. MindView is telehealth only, so every Oneonta client is seen online by secure video. We do not see clients in person at any location.
I am a student. Can I keep sessions going over the summer?
Only if you are physically in New York State during the session. A therapist must be licensed where you are sitting, so a student who goes home to another state cannot simply continue from there. It is worth planning for at the start rather than discovering it in May.
Are you the campus counseling center?
No. We have no affiliation with SUNY Oneonta, Hartwick College or any campus service. If you are already working with a campus counselor, running two courses of therapy at once usually does more harm than good, and we would say so rather than take the booking.
I live in Cooperstown or Sidney, not Oneonta. Does that work?
Yes. We are licensed statewide rather than scoped to a city, so Otego, Milford, Laurens, Unadilla, Cooperstown, Sidney and anywhere else in New York State are all fine.
Do you take Medicare?
Yes. Medicare is one of the plans we are in-network with for New York telehealth. We confirm your specific coverage, including any secondary plan, before you begin.
How soon can I be seen?
We are accepting new clients and reply within one business day. Online booking is about 30 seconds of choosing a time.
What will it cost?
With an in-network plan you pay a copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee, with any unmet deductible applying first. We verify your benefits and tell you the number before you book.
