Why MindView
Most therapy in Oneonta has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Aetna. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Aetna in Oneonta, in short
Yes. MindView Therapy is in-network with Aetna and sees Oneonta adults 18 and older by secure video anywhere in New York State. Aetna sells no individual plan in New York, so every Aetna card here arrived through an employer. On plans regulated by New York a therapy copay may not be higher than the primary-care copay, and we confirm whether yours is one of them before you book.
Otsego County's 168 private health care and social assistance establishments carry 5,569 jobs at an average annual pay of $85,953, against $60,206 across all private jobs in the county. Among Oneonta residents 1,017 work in the sector, 16.1 percent, which is below the county's 19.4 percent. It is well-paid work, and the thing people in it report having least of is not money.
A well-paid sector, and what it costs in hours
Otsego County’s private health care and social assistance employers ran 168 establishments and 5,569 jobs in 2025, at an average annual pay of $85,953. That is roughly 43 percent above the $60,206 average across every other private job in the county, a gap that size is unusual for a rural county, and it says something worth sitting with: this is not a sector where cost is the first wall between someone and a weekly hour of care.
What that paycheck buys back is not obvious until you look at what health care work like this usually asks for first. Shift work that runs into the evening, hours that rotate week to week, a caseload that does not end when the badge comes off. What people bring into a first session is often less about the fee than about finding an hour that nothing else has already claimed, arriving worn out by the time the day finally lets go of them. That kind of exhaustion makes it harder to keep a standing weekly time, which is a different problem than affording one.
The honest use of this figure stops there. It describes health care and social assistance pay across the county, not an individual paycheck, a specific employer, or which Oneonta household is carrying that particular strain this month. What it does support is a practical shift in framing: the thing worth negotiating before booking is usually the hour, not the fee, and a session that happens by video rather than in a waiting room is one way that hour gets easier to hold onto.
Nothing about this is a claim that the work is unbearable or that the people doing it are struggling more than anyone else. It is a narrower observation: pay this far above the county average tends to sit under a schedule that does not leave a lot of open ground, and a first session booked against that kind of week usually needs to be flexible about when, not just settled on whether.
Health care work among Oneonta residents
Among the 6,311 employed Oneonta residents counted in the American Community Survey, 1,017 work in health care and social assistance, 16.1 percent. That is below Otsego County’s 19.4 percent and below New York State’s 17.6 percent as well. The gap runs in Oneonta’s direction, not the county’s, and it is worth reporting exactly that plainly rather than rounding it up.
That does not mean fewer city residents benefit from the sector’s pay than the county figure suggests. The 168 establishments and 5,569 jobs above are county totals, not city totals, and the survey does not say where any of the 1,017 Oneonta residents in the sector actually work within the county, only where they live. The estimate also carries a margin of error of about 330 people either direction, which is normal for a city this size and one more reason not to lean on the exact figure too hard.
What the numbers support is narrower than a concentration claim. Health care and social assistance is a real, measurable presence among employed Oneonta residents, running somewhat below the surrounding county and state shares rather than above them. Nothing here says whether that share is rising, falling, or undercounting residents who work just outside the city line, and none of it is a statement about the city’s economy as a whole.
Where an Aetna card here comes from
Aetna sells no individual health plan anywhere in New York State. Every Aetna card an Oneonta adult carries got here the same way, an employer chose it, whether that employer runs a large payroll or a handful of people. There is no version of this coverage a person shops for directly, the way one might compare marketplace plans in January.
That single fact explains a lot of what makes Aetna coverage here inconsistent from one household to the next. Two Oneonta neighbors holding the same-looking Aetna card can be enrolled in different plan designs, because the employer sets the design, not Aetna and not the person carrying the card. One might have a modest copay for outpatient therapy; another, working for an employer that funds its own plan rather than buying one, might see different cost sharing entirely.
We do not guess which version you have, and we cannot promise a specific hour or a specific clinician’s availability before checking, or quote a cost without first seeing the plan. Every Aetna card gets confirmed against your specific plan before a session is scheduled, and the number we give you is the number that plan actually charges, not an average pulled from somebody else’s coverage.
The rule that makes the number knowable
New York places a real limit on plans it regulates: a therapy copay cannot be set higher than the copay for a routine visit to a primary care doctor. If your Aetna plan is one New York regulates, that cap already applies to your card, whether or not anyone at your employer ever mentioned it.
The cap has two real gaps. It does not reach a plan your employer bought outside New York and simply extended to its New York employees, and it does not reach a plan your employer funds itself rather than buying from an insurer, since a self-funded plan answers to federal rules rather than New York’s. Aetna coverage in Oneonta is an employer purchase either way, which means the plan underneath your card could sit on either side of that line and there is no way to tell from the card alone.
A copay is a flat amount owed at the time of a session. Coinsurance is a percentage of the allowed cost, owed after your plan pays its share. A deductible is the amount you owe out of pocket before your plan starts paying its share at all. Whichever of the three applies to your Aetna card, you owe that amount instead of the full session fee, never the difference beyond it.
We check which of those apply to your specific plan, whether the state cap reaches it or not, and tell you the number before anything is scheduled, so the first bill is never the first time you learn the amount. That check happens once, up front, rather than getting redone every time you book, so the number you were given the first time is the number you can expect going forward unless your plan itself changes.
Starting
Booking takes your Aetna card and about 30 seconds online. From there we verify the benefit against your specific plan and give you the per-session cost before anything else happens, so nothing about the first appointment arrives as a surprise later.
Sessions are for adults 18 and older only, entirely by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, from anywhere in the state. There is no Oneonta office and none is implied here; the point of video is that it removes the part of the week a full schedule usually eats first, the travel on either end of the hour itself. People book through this route for burnout, caregiver burnout, ongoing anxiety, trouble holding boundaries around work, and disrupted sleep, among other reasons.
A first session is an intake, not treatment: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. Choose a therapist when you are ready, and the benefit check happens as part of booking rather than before it.
From there, the recurring weekly time you set is the piece that matters most for someone whose schedule already runs tight, more than which specific day or hour it lands on. A slot that survives a demanding week is one that was agreed to in advance rather than found fresh each time, and that is the part booking ahead actually solves.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Aetna questions
Can my therapy copay be higher than my copay for a regular doctor visit?
Not if Aetna regulates the plan under New York law. The state caps an outpatient therapy copay at no more than a primary care copay on plans it regulates. That cap does not reach a plan your employer bought outside New York or one your employer funds itself rather than buying from an insurer. We check which situation your specific Aetna plan falls into before your first session.
what a first session coversI live in Oneonta and my job does not offer Aetna. Can I buy a plan myself?
No. Aetna sells no individual health plan anywhere in New York State, Oneonta included, so a plan bought on your own is not an option through Aetna specifically. Every Aetna card here arrived through an employer's group purchase. If your current job does not offer one, the practical next step is checking what coverage your employer does offer, since that is where an Aetna option would come from.
I already work in health care and cannot spare an hour a week. Is there any point starting?
Many of the Oneonta adults we see through an Aetna plan work in a sector where pay runs well above the county average and the week is already full. The honest answer is that the hour, not the Aetna copay, is usually the real obstacle. Booking by secure video removes travel from that equation, and we set the slot around your schedule rather than a fixed clinic hour.
What does a first session actually involve?
An intake rather than treatment. What brought you in, the background that matters to it, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. You leave the first session with a recurring weekly time already set, so nothing about scheduling has to be figured out separately afterward.
Does MindView have an office in Oneonta?
No. Every Oneonta session covered by an Aetna plan is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, from anywhere in the state. We do have physical offices in Queens and Buffalo, but they are administrative locations, not places where video sessions are swapped out for an in-office visit.
