Why MindView
Most therapy in Oneonta has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Medicare. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Medicare in Oneonta, in short
Yes. MindView Therapy is enrolled with Medicare and sees Oneonta adults by secure video anywhere in New York State. Medicare places no geographic restriction on mental health telehealth and the home is a permitted site. Part B covers outpatient therapy after the annual deductible and then 20 percent coinsurance. Most Otsego County beneficiaries are on Original Medicare, so that arithmetic is the live one here more often than it is elsewhere.
Otsego County has 15,474 Medicare beneficiaries, of whom 8,443 are in Original Medicare and 7,031 are in Medicare Advantage or another health plan. At 54.6 percent Original, it is one of the few counties in New York where the traditional programme is still the majority. That makes this one of the rare places where the standard Part B arithmetic describes most of the people reading it.
Here the standard answer really is the answer
Yes. MindView Therapy is enrolled with Medicare, and Oneonta adults are seen by secure video anywhere in New York State. Most pages that answer a Medicare coverage question have to hedge, because most New York counties now have more people on a private Advantage plan than on the original federal program. Otsego County is not one of those counties.
Of the county’s 15,474 Medicare beneficiaries, 8,443 are in Original Medicare, 54.6 percent, and 7,031 are on Medicare Advantage or another health plan, 45.4 percent. A slim majority is still a majority. It means the plain Part B deductible-then-coinsurance math below is not a simplified version of the real answer for most people reading this from Oneonta. It is the real answer.
That does not erase the other 45 percent. Anyone carrying an Advantage card gets a shorter, separate section further down, because a private plan is not interchangeable with the federal program just because both say Medicare on the card.
A county split this close to a genuine majority is unusual across New York, where Advantage enrollment has overtaken Original Medicare in most places. Practically, it means fewer Oneonta callers need a long explanation of two different systems before they get an answer. Most can be told the deductible and the coinsurance number and be done with the question.
What Part B covers and what it leaves
Part B covers outpatient mental health care, therapy included, once the annual deductible is met. For 2026 that deductible is $283. After it is met, Medicare pays its share of the allowed amount and you owe 20 percent coinsurance on each session going forward, for the rest of the calendar year.
The standard 2026 Part B monthly premium is $202.90, which most beneficiaries already pay regardless of whether they use any mental health benefit that year. No referral is required to start; outpatient therapy under Part B is self-referred, so a phone call to a primary care doctor is not a prerequisite to booking here.
The deductible resets every January, not on the date you start therapy, so where you stand against it depends on what other Part B care you have already used that calendar year. Someone booking in November after a spring surgery has likely already met it and owes only the 20 percent coinsurance from session one. Someone starting in January is probably paying the deductible down first. Neither situation changes what Part B ultimately covers, only when the coinsurance-only period begins.
Because Original Medicare covers more than half of Otsego County’s beneficiaries, this section gets to be direct instead of hedged. We still confirm the specifics of your account before your first session, mainly to check where you stand against the deductible for the year, but the shape of what you owe rarely turns out to be a surprise once you know these two numbers.
If your card says Advantage
If your card says Medicare Advantage instead of the plain red, white, and blue Medicare card, the arithmetic above does not automatically apply to you. Advantage plans are sold by private insurance companies under contract with the federal program, and each one sets its own network and its own cost sharing for outpatient mental health visits.
We do not assume network status for an Advantage plan, and we do not guess at what one covers. We check which plan you carry and what it pays before your first session is booked, the same as we would for any other coverage question. Given that 7,031 Otsego County beneficiaries, 45.4 percent, hold an Advantage plan or another health plan instead of Original Medicare, this is a routine check here, not a rare exception, and it takes one short conversation before booking rather than a form to fill out.
None of this says one type of coverage is better than the other. It says only that the two are administered differently, so a specific check has to happen before a specific cost can be named.
Seen at home, by rule
Medicare places no geographic restriction on mental health telehealth, and your home counts as a permitted place to have the appointment. That rule is federal and does not depend on how far Oneonta sits from the nearest city offering in-person mental health care. There is no MindView office in Oneonta, and none is implied; every session here is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York.
Booking follows the same short process regardless of which card you carry. Have it ready, book online, and we verify your specific Original Medicare or Advantage coverage before anything is scheduled, so the cost is known ahead of the appointment rather than discovered afterward. Nothing about the check requires a trip anywhere or a printed form; it happens before your first appointment is confirmed on the calendar.
Oneonta adults booking through this route are usually dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, or the kind of life transition that does not always have a clean name, retirement, widowhood, a diagnosis of one’s own or a spouse’s, an adult child moving away from a town this size. A first session is an intake: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. From there, most people set a standing weekly time, held by video from wherever they happen to be that week, without a ride to arrange or a trip to plan around it.
What people bring to a first session after 65
Of Otsego County’s Medicare beneficiaries, 13,653 are entitled through age and 1,821 through disability rather than age, a reminder that this county’s Medicare population is not only retirees. Still, most of the people who search for a Medicare therapist here are older adults, and a rural county changes what usually brings them in.
It is common, once someone stops driving after dark, or gives up driving altogether, for the evenings to empty out first. Not because anything dramatic happened, but because so much of what filled an evening, a dinner out, a meeting, a drive to see someone, depended on being able to get there. A knee that no longer manages a flight of stairs closes off the same kind of evening from a different direction, for a different reason but the same result. What is lost is not independence as an idea. It is the specific evenings that used to have other people in them, and the quiet that moves in once they stop.
That quiet has a physical side too. Sleep gets lighter and starts earlier. A house that used to fill with dinner noise a few nights a week goes silent instead, and the silence itself becomes something to notice by the third or fourth week of it. None of that has to add up to anything a person would call a crisis before it counts as worth talking about.
That is a plain, ordinary reason to book a first session, not a sign that something has gone seriously wrong. Nothing here is a claim about any individual’s situation or a suggestion that driving less, or sleeping less, means a person needs therapy. It is only an observation about what tends to sit underneath a search like this one in a county built the way Otsego is, and it is worth saying so nobody has to invent a bigger reason before they feel entitled to call. General therapy and support for loneliness are both common starting points from here.

How to book with Medicare
- 1
Have your red, white, and blue Medicare card ready, or your Medicare Advantage card if that is what you carry.
- 2
Book online. It takes about 30 seconds.
- 3
We verify your specific coverage, Original Medicare or Advantage, and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled.
- 4
Your first session is an intake, by secure video from anywhere in New York State.
What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.
Use your Medicare benefits and get started.

Medicare questions
What does Medicare leave me to pay for a therapy session?
The 2026 Part B annual deductible is $283. Once that is met, Part B pays its share and you owe 20 percent coinsurance on the allowed amount going forward. Because Original Medicare covers more than half of Otsego County beneficiaries, this is the answer that applies to most people asking the question here, not a caveat-heavy exception.
My card says Medicare Advantage. Does the same math apply to me?
Not automatically, and we will not guess. Advantage plans are sold by private insurers and each sets its own network and cost sharing, so we check which plan you carry before assuming anything about coverage. About 45 percent of Otsego County beneficiaries hold an Advantage plan, so this comes up often and gets confirmed every time, not assumed.
Do I need a referral from my doctor first?
No. Outpatient mental health therapy under Part B is self-referred, meaning you can book directly without a physician sending you in first. This holds whether you are newly on Medicare or have carried it for years. We confirm your specific benefit once you book, but the referral step itself is not something Original Medicare requires.
I have mostly stopped going out in the evenings. Is that really a reason to book?
Yes. Plenty of people asking this are not dealing with a crisis, just a life that has gotten quieter than they meant it to. That is a plain and ordinary reason to talk to someone, not something that needs to be worse first before it counts.
Does MindView have an office in Oneonta?
No. Every Oneonta session is held online by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, reachable from anywhere in the state. Our physical offices are in Queens and Buffalo, and they function as offices rather than places where Oneonta clients are seen in person.
