Why MindView
Most therapy in White Plains has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Optum. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Optum in White Plains, in short
MindView Therapy is in network with Optum and sees White Plains adults by secure video anywhere in New York State. Nobody buys an Optum plan. Optum is the behavioral health side of a UnitedHealthcare or UMR card, which is why your medical card can say one name while your therapy benefit says another. Some employers also add an Optum employee assistance program with a set number of no-cost sessions. We check which route applies to you before booking.
Health care and social assistance is the largest private employer group in Westchester County: 79,035 jobs across 3,442 establishments in 2024, at an average of $79,978 a year, out of 429,582 covered jobs countywide. It is also a sector where the name on a benefits card and the name on a therapy benefit routinely differ, and where people are more likely than most to notice. That mismatch is the thing we settle before you book.
Your medical card and your therapy benefit have different names
The most common source of confusion we hear from members is straightforward: a medical card that says UnitedHealthcare or UMR, and a therapy benefit that comes back under the name Optum. It reads like a mismatch, and for a lot of people it triggers a moment of worry that coverage does not actually apply.
It is not a mismatch. Optum is the behavioral health network sitting behind a UnitedHealthcare or UMR medical card, handling the mental health side of the same membership the front of the card describes differently. We are in network with Optum and see White Plains adults by secure video anywhere in New York State, and we verify coverage under whichever name is printed on your card.
Nobody signs up for Optum the way they sign up for a health plan. It is a network layer, not a product, and the only reason its name ever appears on paperwork is that it happens to administer the behavioral health side of what your employer or the marketplace sold you under a different name.
Health care work in Westchester, and why the mismatch shows
Health care and social assistance is the largest private employer sector in Westchester County, carrying 79,035 jobs across 3,442 establishments in 2024, out of 429,582 total covered jobs countywide. It is, by a meaningful margin, the biggest single block of private employment here.
People who work in health care tend to notice this particular naming pattern more than most, simply because they are more familiar with how insurance administration works behind the scenes. That familiarity does not change the underlying fact, but it is part of why this specific question comes up so often in a county where health care employment runs this deep.
None of that employment figure says anything about who specifically carries an Optum-routed benefit in White Plains. It describes jobs located in the county, not which cards individual residents hold.
Health care employers of any size can route behavioral health through UnitedHealthcare or UMR just as easily as an employer in a different industry can, and the reverse is equally true. The size of the sector explains why the naming question comes up often here, not why any particular reader’s card works a certain way.
The 79,035-job figure also mixes very different kinds of employers under one census category, from a large hospital system down to a small practice or an individual home health agency. Those organizations vary widely in size and in whether they offer an employee assistance program at all, which is one more reason the sector total cannot answer a question that only your specific employer’s plan can.
What to read off the card before you call
Two things on a UnitedHealthcare or UMR card are worth checking before you book: whether the reverse side lists a behavioral health or mental health phone number separate from the general member services line, and whether an employee assistance program is mentioned anywhere on the card or in your benefits materials. Both point toward the same underlying Optum network, just accessed two different ways.
We ask about both during the benefits check, so you do not need to have already sorted this out before contacting us. Bringing whichever card is in your wallet, medical or otherwise, is enough to start; we do the work of tracing it to the right benefit from there.
Assistance sessions, and the code that has to exist first
An employee assistance program offers a set number of sessions at no cost, commonly a handful per issue per year, with no deductible and no copay attached while the benefit lasts. It is a real benefit and worth using.
The part that trips people up is the authorization code. It generally has to be obtained from your plan’s employee assistance line before your first session, not requested afterward. Without it in place beforehand, the visit is billed as an ordinary session against your regular cost sharing rather than treated as a free assistance visit. We ask about the code at the start of booking precisely so that does not happen.
The number of assistance sessions and what counts as a new issue both vary by employer, so we do not assume a fixed count applies to you. What stays consistent regardless of your specific plan is the order of operations: the code comes first, then the session, every time. Getting that order backward is the single most common way a free benefit ends up billed as a regular visit instead.
After the free sessions, ordinary cost sharing
Once assistance sessions are used up, your regular plan cost sharing takes over: a copay, a coinsurance percentage of the allowed amount, or the remainder of a deductible you have not yet met. It is never the full session fee, and never a balance billed for the difference.
Because that cost sharing is set by your employer’s plan design, no single dollar figure would be accurate for every member. We check your specific plan and tell you the number that applies once the free sessions end, so the transition never arrives as a surprise.
A deductible on the regular benefit resets once a year, on whatever date your employer’s plan year begins, which is not always January 1. If you have already met it through other medical costs by the time assistance sessions run out, coinsurance alone may apply from that point forward, without an additional deductible cost stacked on top. We confirm where you stand on that as part of the same check.
The transition point itself is worth watching for. Someone who used their assistance sessions early in a course of care can hit that boundary mid-treatment rather than at a natural pause, and the cost change can feel abrupt if it was not flagged ahead of time. We tell you roughly where that line sits before you begin, not only once you have crossed it.
Who books through an Optum benefit
Adults 18 and older across White Plains reach Optum through a UnitedHealthcare or UMR card, often through health care employment given how large that sector is here, or through any other employer whose plan routes behavioral health this way. People come in for burnout, anxiety, caregiver burnout, depression, and building practical coping skills, along with general therapy for anyone whose reason does not fit neatly into one category.
Health care work in Westchester rarely runs a fixed nine-to-five: a rotating shift that flips from days to nights every few weeks, a shift that runs long because the next person is late, a phone that is still expected to be checked on a day off. A standing weekly therapy appointment is usually the first thing a schedule like that breaks, which is why a clinician working with health care employees in this county plans for a time that will need to move more than once.
79,035 health care jobs describes the size of the sector, not which of those workers is stretched thin, and working in health care is not itself a reason to start therapy.
MindView has no office in White Plains, and every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York. See the White Plains location page for the full list of plans covered here, part of our statewide New York coverage.
You do not need a diagnosis to book, and you do not need a manager’s sign-off to use an assistance benefit your employer already offers. A rough sense that work has gotten harder to carry is a reasonable enough reason to start.
Getting a number before session one
Have your Optum, UnitedHealthcare, or UMR card ready, and note whether an employee assistance program applies to you. If it does, call the number on the card first for an authorization code. Book online; it takes about 30 seconds, and we verify the rest.
A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. From there, you set a recurring weekly time, with the cost already settled ahead of time.
What Optum covers here
- •Optum is the behavioral health network behind UnitedHealthcare and UMR coverage. Your medical card and your therapy line can carry different names for the same membership.
- •Employee assistance sessions are typically a set number at no cost, with no deductible and no copay attached to them while they last.
- •An authorization code from your plan's assistance line usually has to exist before your first session, or the visit bills as an ordinary one instead.
- •Once assistance sessions run out, your regular plan cost sharing takes over, a copay, coinsurance, or the remainder of a deductible, never the full session fee.
- •Cost sharing beyond the assistance benefit is employer-set, so it cannot be quoted as one figure. We verify your specific plan before booking.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Optum questions
My card says UnitedHealthcare. Why do you list Optum?
Same membership. The behavioral health line on a UnitedHealthcare or UMR card connects to Optum, which is why both names come up in different places on the same coverage. We verify your benefit under whichever name is printed on your card, so there is nothing extra for you to sort out first.
My employer offers a few counseling sessions at no cost. How does that work with you?
Call your plan's employee assistance line first and get the authorization code, then book. Without the code in place before your first session, the visit typically bills as an ordinary session against your regular cost sharing instead of being treated as a free assistance visit. We ask about this at the start of booking to avoid that outcome.
I work at a hospital or a clinic in Westchester. Does that change anything?
Not for network purposes. Health care and social assistance is the county's largest private employer group at 79,035 jobs, which is one reason this name mismatch comes up so often here, but the benefit still comes down to what your specific employer's plan set. We check yours directly.
What happens after the no-cost sessions run out?
Your plan's regular cost sharing takes over, a copay, a coinsurance percentage, or the remainder of a deductible you have not yet met, but never the full session fee. Because that cost sharing is set by your employer's plan design, we check your specific plan and tell you the number that applies once the free sessions end.
