Why MindView
Most therapy in Brooklyn has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Optum. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Optum in Brooklyn, in short
MindView Therapy is in-network with Optum for Brooklyn adults, whether Optum runs the mental health side of your health plan or your employer's assistance program. Sessions are by secure video anywhere in New York State, and we confirm what your coverage includes, and what it costs, before session one. Accepting new clients now.
Nobody walks into a store and buys Optum insurance, yet tens of thousands of Brooklyn workers are carrying it right now without knowing. It arrives on the mental health line of another card, or in a benefits packet as an employee assistance program with free sessions attached. Bring us whichever version you have, and we will tell you what it unlocks.
Does MindView take Optum in Brooklyn?
Yes, and if you are not sure whether you have Optum, that is normal, and this page exists for you. Brooklyn adults see us by secure video anywhere in New York State; the office nearest the borough is ours in Jamaica, Queens, and borough sessions run virtual.
Nobody buys Optum insurance. Here is how you have it anyway
Optum reaches a Brooklyn wallet three ways. The mental health line on the back of many health cards connects to Optum, even when the front of the card names another plan. Employers hand out Optum assistance programs, a benefit that includes free therapy sessions. And the pharmacy line of some cards reads Optum Rx.
The first two are the ones that matter for therapy, and the confusion between card-front and directory listing is the single question we field most. The answer is always the same: it is one membership, your benefits do not change, and you never need to untangle it because we do.
EAP sessions: free, real, and time-limited
An employer assistance program usually hands you between three and eight therapy sessions at zero dollars, but only if the authorization code exists before the first appointment. That code, arranged through a phone number or portal your workplace benefits page lists, is the practical fact this page most wants you to leave with. Code first, then book, and the free sessions are genuinely free, no copay, no deductible.
Book first and the visits bill as ordinary sessions instead, which is the avoidable mistake. When the allotment runs out, care continues under your regular plan’s cost share, a number you will already have in writing from us, because we map the handoff before you start.
Almost everyone in Brooklyn is insured. Using it is the hard part
Ninety-four percent of Brooklyn already has a health plan; the real shortage is people who know what the card in their wallet includes. The census counts only 152,898 borough residents without coverage. Everyone else is carrying a mental health benefit of some shape, and a striking number of them are also carrying untouched free sessions their employer already paid for.
The hardest session to book is the first one. If a no-cost on-ramp exists in your benefits packet, use it for the real thing, a stretch of low mood, anxiety that will not resolve on its own, or the thing you have been circling for a year. Free sessions are a start, not a teaser, and the work continues seamlessly if you keep going.
Booking with Optum
Since coverage lists answer half of everything, Brooklyn’s is: UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare.
Bring us a card, a letter, or a benefits-page screenshot with Optum anywhere on it, request a clinician on the booking page, and we sort the rest, verification, the code if one applies, and a confirmed cost before your intake. Or start by phone: (646) 493-4007, answered within one business day.
What Optum covers here
- •Optum most often runs the mental health benefit behind another card in your wallet. If a therapist directory says Optum while your card says something else, that is normal, and it is the same membership.
- •An employer assistance program through Optum grants a set number of therapy sessions at $0, commonly three to eight per issue per year, with no copay and no deductible.
- •The $0 sessions require an authorization code arranged before the first appointment. Without the code in place first, visits bill as regular sessions, so we help you get it sequenced correctly.
- •When assistance-program sessions run out, your regular plan cost share takes over, and we tell you that number before the handoff, not after.
How to book with Optum
- 1
Find whatever has Optum on it, a card, an EAP letter, or your workplace benefits page, and have it handy.
- 2
If you are using assistance-program sessions, get the authorization code first. Your benefits page or HR portal lists the number to call, and we can walk you through it.
- 3
Request a clinician on our booking page. We verify what your Optum coverage includes and confirm your cost, zero or otherwise, before the intake.
- 4
Start weekly video sessions anywhere in New York State, with the handoff from free sessions to regular coverage mapped in advance.
What we treat
What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Optum questions
Does MindView Therapy take Optum in Brooklyn?
Yes, in both of its common forms. If Optum runs the mental health benefit behind your health plan, or your employer offers an Optum assistance program, we are in-network and see Brooklyn adults by secure video across New York State. Nearest office, Jamaica, Queens; Brooklyn sessions are video.
My job offers an Optum EAP. Are the sessions really free?
Yes, genuinely. The allotted sessions, commonly three to eight per issue per year, cost $0 with no copay or deductible, provided the authorization code exists before your first appointment. When they are used up, your regular plan takes over, and we confirm that cost before you reach it.
My card says UnitedHealthcare but the therapist list says Optum. Which am I?
Both, and nothing is wrong. Optum runs the mental health side for many plans, so directories name Optum while cards name the health plan. Hand us the card you have and we verify from there. Untangling it is our job.
Do most people in Brooklyn even have coverage for therapy?
Overwhelmingly yes. Census data puts 94.2 percent of Brooklyn residents on some form of health coverage. The borough's real gap is not the card, it is knowing the card includes a mental health benefit. That is what this page is for.
