Why MindView
Most therapy in Amsterdam has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Optum. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Optum in Amsterdam, in short
MindView Therapy is in network with Optum and sees Amsterdam adults by secure video across New York State. There is no Optum plan and no Optum card. Optum is the behavioral health side of a UnitedHealthcare or UMR plan, and sometimes the name behind an employer's assistance program. So send us the card you do have, front and back, whatever name is on it, and we work out the route and the number before booking.
Transportation and warehousing is the second largest private sector in Montgomery County and an unusually concentrated one: 2,751 jobs across just 46 establishments, at an average of $55,155 a year, which is about sixty people per worksite. Employers at that scale often add benefits that carry names the employee never sees on a card, and Optum is frequently one of them.
Stop looking for an Optum card
There is no Optum card. If a coworker, a plan document, or an assistance line told you that your mental health benefit runs through Optum, and you have gone looking since for a card with that name printed on it, stop looking. It does not exist as a stand-alone product to buy, hold, or carry in a wallet.
Optum is the behavioral health side of a UnitedHealthcare or UMR membership, and on some plans it is also the name behind an employer’s assistance program. The membership itself is issued under one of those other names. What you actually have is a UnitedHealthcare card, a UMR card, or paperwork describing an employer program, and Optum is the network quietly running the mental health piece behind whichever one applies to you.
We are in network with Optum and see Amsterdam adults by secure video anywhere in New York State. The useful next step from here is not more searching for a card that will not turn up. It is sending us whatever you already have and letting us work out the rest.
Send us the card you actually have
Send a photo of the card you actually hold, front and back, whatever name sits at the top of it. UnitedHealthcare, UMR, or an employer program name are all readable to us, and each one tells us which route your benefit takes to reach Optum.
If your employer has mentioned a set number of free counseling sessions, say so when you send the card. That detail changes which route we check first, and it can decide whether a session bills as free against an assistance benefit or against your regular plan.
We do not need a member portal login, a claims number, or a policy handbook. What is printed on the front and back of the card you already carry is enough for us to start. From there we confirm which route applies to you and what a session costs before you book anything.
Big worksites in a small county
Transportation and warehousing is the second largest private sector in Montgomery County, and an unusually concentrated one: 46 establishments carried 2,751 jobs in 2024, at an average annual pay of $55,155, which works out to about sixty people per site. Work at that scale is physically demanding in ways that do not stay at the loading dock. Repetitive lifting and long stretches on your feet through overnight shifts often carry soreness and worn out evenings into a first session, long before anyone gets around to asking for care.
A benefits packet gets handed out once, at onboarding, long before anyone needs to use it. A person finishing an overnight shift, tired and not inclined to reread paperwork, is a realistic person to be unsure what card or benefit they actually have, if any, and that uncertainty is a reasonable place to start rather than a problem to solve first.
None of that is a claim about any specific employer here. The employment figure describes jobs located in the county, not which of those employers route behavioral health through Optum or offer an assistance program at all. What it establishes is only the shape of the local job base: large sites, run in shifts, are common enough that not knowing your own benefit by name is unremarkable rather than unusual.
That is also the practical reason an Optum question comes up at all in a county this size. A site large enough to run sixty people through it typically buys group coverage through an administrator rather than shopping a plan retail, and an administrator-run benefit is exactly where a name like Optum tends to sit, quietly, underneath a card that says something else.
Route one: the behavioral line on your plan
If your card reads UnitedHealthcare or UMR, the medical side of your membership is administered under that name, and the behavioral health side runs through Optum. That is not two different memberships. It is one membership with the mental health claims routed to a separate network behind the scenes, which is why a therapist can say Optum while your card says something else entirely.
UMR shows up on some cards in the same pattern as UnitedHealthcare: a different name on the front, the same Optum network handling the behavioral side. Neither name changes what we do next.
For booking, the practical answer is the same regardless of which name is printed where: we check your specific benefit under the name on your card and tell you what a session costs. You are not expected to know which network handles which part of your coverage before you call, and nothing about the naming changes whether we can see you.
Route two: an employer assistance program
Some employers add a separate assistance program on top of the regular plan, and Optum is often the name behind that too. It typically covers a set number of sessions at no cost, with no deductible and no copay attached while it lasts. The exact number and what counts as a new issue both vary by employer, so we do not assume a fixed count applies to you.
The part that trips people up is the order of operations. An authorization code generally has to come from your plan’s employee assistance line before your first session, not after. Without it in place beforehand, the visit is billed as an ordinary session against your regular cost sharing instead of treated as a free assistance visit.
We ask about this at the start of booking specifically so the order stays right: the code comes first, then the session. Getting that order backward is the most common way a free benefit ends up billed as a regular visit instead, and it is easy to avoid once you know to ask before you show up rather than after.
What each route costs, and what we confirm
Once any assistance sessions are used, or if your plan never had them, ordinary cost sharing applies. That is a copay, a coinsurance percentage of the allowed amount, or the remainder of a deductible you have not yet met. It is never the full session fee, and never a balance billed for the difference.
Because that cost sharing is set by your employer’s plan design rather than sold off a shelf, no single dollar figure describes every Optum member accurately. New York requires most commercial plans to cover outpatient mental health care on the same footing as medical care, though how that parity plays out in practice still depends on your specific plan’s design and what it has already paid toward your deductible this year.
We check your particular plan and tell you the number that applies before anything is scheduled, whichever route got you here, an ordinary benefit or an assistance program that has run its course. You will know the cost before you book, not after a statement arrives.
Booking once we know the route
Send the card you have, front and back, and mention if an employer assistance program applies to you. If it does, call the number on your plan’s assistance line first for an authorization code. Book online in about two minutes, and we verify the rest before your first session is confirmed.
Adults 18 and older across Amsterdam reach us this way for anxiety, depression, burnout, ongoing stress management, and sleep problems. MindView has no office in Amsterdam, and every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York.
A first session is an intake, not treatment: what brought you in, the background behind it, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions are checked against. From there you set a recurring weekly time, with the route and the cost already confirmed. The general therapy page covers what those first few sessions typically look like if you want more detail before booking.
What Optum covers here
- •Optum is the behavioral health network behind UnitedHealthcare and UMR coverage. Nobody buys a plan called Optum on its own.
- •Employee assistance sessions are typically a set number at no cost, with no deductible and no copay attached to them while they last.
- •An authorization code from your plan's employee assistance line generally has to exist before your first session, or the visit bills as an ordinary one instead.
- •Once assistance sessions run out, your regular plan cost sharing takes over: a copay, coinsurance, or the remainder of a deductible, never the full session fee.
- •Cost sharing beyond any assistance benefit is set by your employer, so it cannot be quoted as one figure. We verify your specific plan before booking.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Optum questions
I cannot find an Optum card. What do I send you?
There is no Optum card to find, so nothing is missing on your end. Send whatever you already have, front and back: a UnitedHealthcare card, a UMR card, or paperwork from an employer assistance program. Any one of those tells us which route your benefit takes to Optum, and we confirm the details from there before you book.
My card says UnitedHealthcare or UMR. Is that still Optum?
Yes. The medical side of your membership is administered under whichever name is printed on the card, and the behavioral health side runs through Optum behind it. It is one membership, not two, so we check your benefit under the name you actually have and tell you what a session costs.
My employer mentioned free counseling sessions. How do I not lose them?
Call your plan's employee assistance line for an authorization code before your first session, not after. Without that code in place beforehand, the visit typically bills as an ordinary session against your regular cost sharing instead of a free assistance visit. We ask about this at the start of booking to keep the order right.
I work at a warehouse or distribution site around Amsterdam. Would that come with extra benefits?
We cannot say for any specific employer, since that is not something we track or verify. What we can say is that transportation and warehousing carries 2,751 Montgomery County jobs across just 46 worksites, about sixty people per site, and larger sites like that often add a behavioral health benefit through an administrator. Send us the card you have and we confirm what it actually includes.
Is there a MindView office in Amsterdam that takes Optum?
No. MindView has no office in Amsterdam, and Optum members here are seen the same way every other client is, by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York. The route your benefit takes to Optum does not change based on whether you are near an office, since there is not one to be near.
What happens once my assistance sessions run out?
Your plan's ordinary cost sharing takes over: a copay, a coinsurance percentage, or the remainder of a deductible you have not yet met, but never the full session fee. Because that cost sharing is set by your employer's plan design, we check your specific plan and tell you the number that applies once the free sessions end.
