Why MindView
Most therapy in Batavia has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Optum. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Optum in Batavia, in short
MindView Therapy is in-network with Optum and sees Batavia adults by secure video anywhere in New York State. Optum is the behavioural health network behind a card that usually carries a different name on the front, which is why members are sometimes told wrongly that a therapist is out of network. Nobody buys Optum and nobody can be out of network with it. We check the behavioural line on your plan and give you the per-session number before booking.
Local government accounts for 4,057 jobs across 41 worksites in Genesee County, 17.4 percent of everything, and 2,488 of those sit in public education. For a lot of people that means a settled benefit and a difficult hour. It also means running into the single most common confusion on a card, which is that the network governing therapy is not the name printed largest on the front.
The name on the front and the name that governs
The name that governs a therapy benefit is usually not the name printed largest on the card. In Genesee County that gap produces the single most common booking error we see: a member reads the front of their card, assumes it settles the question, and is told, wrongly, that a therapist is out of network.
Optum is the behavioural health network sitting behind UnitedHealthcare and UMR coverage. A medical card can read UnitedHealthcare while the number that actually handles a mental health claim routes to Optum, and both are describing the same membership. Nobody buys an Optum plan the way they buy a health plan, and nobody can be out of network with Optum simply for holding a card that names something else on the front.
UMR shows up on some cards in the same pattern, as a separate plan administrator that also sits on the Optum behavioural network. If either name appears on your medical card, the underlying question is the same one: what does the behavioural line say, not what does the logo in the corner say.
For booking purposes the practical answer is the same regardless of which name is printed where: we check the behavioural line on your specific plan and confirm what it covers before anything is scheduled.
What to say when you call
If you want to check your own benefit before booking, the useful move is asking for the behavioural health or mental health benefit by name, not the general member services line. Most cards print a separate number for it, sometimes on the back, sometimes smaller than the medical number, and it is the one that actually knows what a therapy visit costs.
Reading the wrong number gets a wrong answer more often than not, because a general member services line is built to answer medical questions and can default to telling a caller a provider is unlisted when the behavioural network was never checked at all. Asking specifically avoids that failure mode.
We do this step for you as part of booking, so nothing here is required before you can schedule. It is useful only if you want to see the number yourself first.
Where 4,057 county jobs actually sit
Local government carried 4,057 jobs across 41 worksites in Genesee County in 2025, 17.4 percent of the county’s 23,314 total jobs. Of those, 2,488 sit specifically in public education and 1,164 in public administration, at an average annual pay of $55,769 across the whole local government total.
That figure describes where jobs in the county are located. It is not a claim that any specific school, town office or county department administers its behavioural health benefit through Optum, and no agency or district can be confirmed from a payroll count alone. What it does establish is the shape of the local employer base: public-sector work is a genuinely large share of it, large enough that group coverage routed through a behavioural network is a familiar structure here rather than an unusual one.
Forty-one worksites averaging under a hundred jobs apiece is also a smaller, more spread-out employer base than one large campus would be, county government offices, town halls and individual school buildings rather than a single concentrated site. That shape matters for the same reason the job count does: it is more of the county’s workforce that is likely to be enrolled under a plan of this design, not fewer, without any single worksite standing in for the whole picture.
None of this says which specific plan a given household carries, and nothing here should be read as a description of Genesee County’s public employees as a group.
Stable benefit, difficult hour
A public-sector job of this kind usually comes with a benefit that does not change much year to year, which means the part that is hard about getting to a first session is rarely the cost. It is more often the hour itself, and who might notice it on the calendar.
In a county where 17.4 percent of jobs sit inside local government, a school building or a municipal office is also a place where a colleague is frequently a neighbour, which changes what “getting seen walking into an appointment” would mean for some people even when nothing about it is actually a problem. A session that happens at home by video, outside a set building and a set hour, removes that part of the equation without requiring anyone to explain why they wanted it removed.
None of this is a diagnosis or a claim about how any individual books. It is a plain description of what a stable benefit and a public workplace can do to the logistics of starting.
Copay, coinsurance, deductible on the plan above
Optum administers the behavioural network; it does not set what you owe for a session. That number comes from the plan sitting above it, the same UnitedHealthcare or UMR plan design that determines your medical cost sharing too.
A copay is a flat amount due at the time of the visit. Coinsurance is a percentage of the allowed cost that continues after a deductible is met. A deductible is the amount paid out of pocket before the plan starts sharing the cost at all, and it resets on whatever date the plan year begins, not always January 1st. On New York-regulated plans, your therapy copay cannot be set higher than your primary care copay, though that protection does not reach coverage an employer buys outside New York or self-funds, so it is not a number we can promise applies to your specific plan sight unseen.
Which of the three applies to you, and in what order, depends on where you sit in your plan year. Someone who has already met a deductible through other medical costs may see only a copay or coinsurance rate at the point of a therapy visit, while someone early in the plan year may still be paying toward the deductible first. Neither situation changes whether the visit is covered, only what it costs that particular month.
Because plan design varies by employer, no single dollar figure would be accurate for every Optum member in the county. We verify your plan and give you the actual number before your first session is scheduled, not after.
Booking without telling anyone at work
Booking does not pass through an employer at any point. You bring your card, and we check the behavioural line ourselves, so there is nothing you need to sort out first beyond having the card on hand.
Have your insurance card ready and look for a behavioural health or mental health number if you want to verify anything yourself in advance. Book online; it takes about 30 seconds, and we confirm your plan’s coverage and cost before anything is finalized.
A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, and what you want different, with a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. Sessions are scheduled by secure video and can sit outside a standard working day, which is useful for anyone who would rather this not overlap with a shared building or a shared calendar. People come in for anxiety, burnout, depression, and the slower wearing-down that stress management and boundary issues cover, among other reasons.
MindView has no office in Batavia, and every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York. See the Batavia location page for the full list of plans covered here, part of statewide coverage across New York.
What Optum covers here
- •Optum is the behavioural health network behind UnitedHealthcare and UMR coverage. The name on your medical card and the name that governs your therapy benefit are not always the same one.
- •Nobody buys an Optum plan, and nobody can be out of network with Optum for holding a card that says something else. What matters is the behavioural health line specifically.
- •On New York-regulated plans your therapy copay cannot be higher than your primary care copay, though that protection does not reach coverage an employer buys outside New York or self-funds.
- •Cost sharing, copay, coinsurance or deductible, is set by the plan sitting above Optum, so no flat number applies to every member. We verify your specific plan before booking.
- •Adults 18 and older, online only by secure video, anywhere in New York State.
How to book with Optum
- 1
Have your insurance card ready and find the behavioural health or mental health number, usually printed separately from the main member services line.
- 2
Book online. It takes about 30 seconds.
- 3
We verify your plan's behavioural health benefit and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled.
- 4
Your first session is an intake, by secure video from anywhere in New York State.
What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Optum questions
My card says UnitedHealthcare but you list Optum. Is that a problem?
No. It is the same membership. The behavioural health line on a UnitedHealthcare or UMR card connects to Optum, which is why both names come up. Nobody is out of network with Optum for holding the wrong card in hand, because Optum is not a card you carry or choose.
What should I actually say when I call to check my benefit?
Ask for the behavioural health or mental health benefit specifically, and read the number printed next to that line rather than the main member services number. That one step is what prevents the most common wrong answer, which is being told a therapist is out of network when they are not.
I work for a school district or the county in Genesee County. Do I need a referral first?
Usually not. Outpatient therapy on most plans of this design is self-referred, so you book directly. A minority of plan designs add a step, and that is one of the things we confirm for your specific plan during the benefits check rather than assume.
Can I be sure nobody at work finds out I am in therapy?
Nothing about booking goes through an employer. Sessions are by secure video from home and can sit outside the working day. We do not name an employer in a record of care, and no attendance is reported to anyone at your job.
Does MindView have a Batavia office?
No. Every Batavia session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York State. Our offices are in Queens, Buffalo and Carmel, Indiana, and they are offices rather than places clients are seen.
