Why MindView

Most therapy in White Plains has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Plenty of practices take Meritain Health. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Meritain Health in White Plains, in short

MindView Therapy is in network for Meritain Health members and sees White Plains adults by secure video anywhere in New York State. Meritain administers self-funded employer plans and rents the Aetna network, so your card says Meritain and the network printed underneath says Aetna. Both are correct. Because the benefit was designed and funded by an employer rather than sold as a retail plan, your cost sharing is your employer's decision, and we look it up before you book.

Westchester County has 31,174 business establishments, and 20,060 of them employ fewer than five people. Only 34 employ a thousand or more. That spread is the reason a Meritain card is not one thing: self-funding a health plan is something an employer does when it is large enough to carry the risk, and the plans that result were each written for one workforce rather than sold off a shelf.

Two names on one card, and both are right

A Meritain card usually carries a second name underneath it: Aetna, printed as the network the plan runs on. That is not an error and it is not two different companies competing for your attention. Meritain administers a self-funded employer plan, and the provider network behind it happens to be Aetna’s.

We are in network for Meritain Health and see White Plains adults by secure video anywhere in New York State. For booking purposes, both names on your card point to the same coverage, and we verify against whichever one is printed rather than asking you to sort it out first.

This dual-name structure is specific to how Meritain operates rather than a printing quirk on any one card. Meritain administers plans nationally and consistently rents an existing network rather than building its own, so an Aetna network reference is the expected pattern rather than an inconsistency worth worrying about.

31,174 employers, and why that matters to your bill

Westchester County has 31,174 business establishments. Of those, 20,060 employ fewer than five people, and only 34 employ a thousand or more. That is an economy overwhelmingly made up of very small employers with a thin tail of very large ones.

Self-funding a health plan, which is what sits behind a Meritain card, is a decision that scales with employer size. A large employer can absorb the financial risk of paying claims directly rather than buying an insurance policy. A five-person office generally cannot. That size distribution is the entire, honest explanation for why a Meritain card in this county is not one product with one set of terms.

None of these establishment counts says which Westchester employers actually chose Meritain, and that figure is not one we can obtain or estimate. What the size distribution shows is why self-funded coverage varies as much as it does: each plan was written for one specific workforce, not sold off a shelf to whoever wanted it.

The 34 establishments with a thousand or more employees represent a tiny fraction of the county’s overall employer base, well under a tenth of one percent of all 31,174 establishments. That contrast is the clearest illustration of why self-funded coverage is the exception rather than the rule among Westchester employers generally, even though it is common enough to sustain a genuinely used administrator like Meritain.

The 89.8 percent figure, on its own, does not mean self-funding is rare here. It means the pool of employers large enough to plausibly self-fund is a minority of the total, not that every large employer chose to. A meaningful number of the county’s larger establishments could still run self-funded plans through Meritain or another administrator, and this figure alone cannot distinguish which ones did.

What self-funded actually means for what you owe

A self-funded plan means the employer itself carries the financial risk of paying claims, rather than purchasing an insurance policy from a carrier. Meritain’s role is to administer that plan and rent the Aetna network so members have somewhere to use their coverage. The employer, not Meritain and not Aetna, decided the plan’s actual terms.

That is why two people can hold the exact same Meritain card, through two different employers, and owe genuinely different amounts for the same kind of visit. The network is shared. The plan design underneath it is not.

The distinction matters practically because Meritain, unlike a traditional insurer, does not set benefit levels for the plans it administers. It processes claims and manages the network relationship, but the copay, deductible and coinsurance structure comes from the employer’s own plan document. When we verify a Meritain member’s benefit, we are effectively reading that employer’s specific choices rather than a Meritain-wide policy.

The three numbers that decide your bill

A copay is a flat amount paid per visit. A deductible is what you pay out of pocket before the plan starts sharing costs. Coinsurance is a percentage of the visit’s cost owed after a deductible is met.

Some self-funded plans use only a copay. Others run a deductible first and shift to coinsurance. A smaller number combine the two. None of these three shapes is more common than another across self-funded plans generally, and knowing which one your employer chose is not something you can determine from the card itself.

We do not publish a dollar figure for any of these on a Meritain page, because a single number would be wrong for a meaningful share of the employers behind these cards. We check your specific plan and tell you the actual figure before you book, including where you stand on a deductible if your plan uses one, and whether that deductible has already been partly or fully met by earlier medical costs in the same plan year.

The parity rule, and the gap a self-funded plan can sit in

New York State caps a therapy copay at whatever a plan charges for a primary care visit, but that cap applies to New York regulated commercial plans. Because a Meritain plan is by definition self-funded, it commonly sits outside state insurance law rather than inside it, more consistently than most other payers on this site.

We do not lead with the state cap as a promise on a Meritain page, because doing so would be wrong more often than it would be right. We check whether your specific employer’s plan mirrors the state protections voluntarily, and tell you what actually applies before your first session.

This is not a reason to assume your plan offers less protection than a fully insured one. Some self-funded employers voluntarily design their plans to match or exceed New York’s requirements, particularly larger employers competing for talent on the strength of their benefits. It simply means the state cannot compel it, so the answer has to come from your specific plan document rather than from the law.

Who books on a Meritain card

Adults 18 and older across White Plains reach Meritain through whichever employer chose to self-fund coverage on the Aetna network, from a small professional office to a larger local employer. People come in for anxiety, depression, burnout, difficulty with boundary issues, and everyday stress management, along with general therapy for anyone whose reason does not fit neatly into a single category.

At a five-person office, which describes 20,060 of Westchester County’s 31,174 employers, there is rarely a way to ask a benefits question with any privacy from co-workers who sit a few feet away. Taking an afternoon off without an explanation reads differently on a four-person team than at a company with a floor of people, and a clinician often hears that someone put off booking a weekly session until a slower week, even when scheduling was never the reason they called.

20,060 small establishments describes the shape of Westchester’s economy, not any single employee’s situation, and working at a small company is not itself a reason to delay care or to need it.

MindView has no office in White Plains, and every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York. See the White Plains location page for the full list of plans covered here, part of our statewide New York coverage.

Spouses and adult dependents covered under the same employer plan are welcome too. If your plan extends benefits to family members, we verify their coverage individually, the same way we verify yours, rather than assuming it from a shared plan number.

What we ask your plan before you are scheduled

Have your Meritain member ID card ready, and note the network name printed underneath it. Booking is online and takes about 30 seconds. We verify the benefit directly, deductible included, and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled, so nothing about your bill is a surprise after the fact. Spouses and dependents on the same plan are checked the same careful way.

A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. From there you set a recurring weekly time, with your specific cost already confirmed.

What Meritain Health covers here

  • •Meritain administers self-funded employer plans and rents the Aetna network, so the card says Meritain and the network printed underneath is Aetna's. Both names are correct.
  • •Because a self-funded plan is designed and funded by an employer rather than sold as a retail plan, two people holding the same Meritain card can land on very different cost sharing.
  • •You pay your plan's copay, coinsurance or remaining deductible instead of the full session fee. You are never billed the difference.
  • •New York regulated plans cap a therapy copay at the primary care copay, but a self-funded employer plan can sit outside that rule. This matters more on a Meritain card than on most others.
  • •We verify the benefit and give the per-session number before anything is booked.

  4. 4

Your first session is an intake, by secure video from anywhere in New York State.

What does therapy here actually look like?

The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.

  1. Getting started

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.

  2. Mapping what is behind it

Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.

  3. Writing the plan together

You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

  4. Ongoing

Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.

Therapy here is measured, not guessed

Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.

Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Meritain Health questions

My card says Meritain but the network says Aetna. Which one am I?

Both, and it is not a mistake. Meritain administers the plan your employer funds, and the provider network printed underneath is Aetna's. For booking purposes the practical answer is that we are in network for you either way. Bring the card as printed and we verify against what your specific employer plan sets.

Why does my coworker pay a different amount than I do?

Because a self-funded plan is designed by the employer, not bought off a shelf. Two Westchester households can carry the same Meritain card through different employers and land on a different copay, a different coinsurance percentage, or a very different deductible. That is exactly why we look yours up rather than quoting an average.

Does the New York copay cap protect me?

Sometimes. On a New York regulated plan, a therapy copay cannot exceed the primary care copay, but a self-funded employer plan can sit outside that rule entirely. This is exactly why we check your specific plan rather than promise a protection that may not reach it.

I work for a very small employer in White Plains. Is Meritain likely?

We will not guess. What we can say honestly is that self-funding is more practical at larger employer sizes, and 89.8 percent of Westchester establishments employ fewer than twenty people. None of that tells us what any individual employer actually chose, so we verify your card directly rather than assuming based on employer size.

Is there a MindView office in White Plains?

No. Every White Plains session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, from anywhere in the state. MindView's offices exist as offices, never as a place a client is seen in person, and none of them is in White Plains.
