Why MindView
Most therapy in Brentwood has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Optum. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Optum in Brentwood, in short
Yes. MindView Therapy is in-network with Optum and sees Brentwood adults 18 and older by secure video anywhere in New York State. Optum is the behavioral health network sitting behind several different medical cards, including UnitedHealthcare, Oxford and UMR, so the name on the front of your card may not be the name that governs a therapy visit. We check which applies to you before booking.
Health care and social assistance employs 128,667 Suffolk County residents, and the county's hospitals, clinics and agencies run to 5,070 private establishments. People who work inside that system are usually the first to notice something the rest of us miss, that the network deciding a therapy visit is often not the one printed on the front of the card. It is the second name, in smaller type, that governs what you owe.
The name on the front is not always the name that matters
Yes. We are in-network with Optum, and Brentwood adults 18 and older are seen by secure video anywhere in New York State. The card in your wallet may say UnitedHealthcare, Oxford, or UMR on the front, and Optum still governs your therapy visit, because Optum sits behind the behavioral health line of several different medical plans rather than being a plan of its own.
That structure catches people off guard more often than any other part of booking with this network. Somebody searches for whether we take their medical insurer’s name, finds nothing that matches exactly, and assumes the search failed. The search did not fail. It just needed a second name, the one printed in smaller type near a customer-service number for mental health specifically, rather than the name on the front of the card.
The confusion is not a design flaw so much as an ordinary consequence of how large medical plans are assembled. A plan sponsor buys medical coverage from one company and layers a specialized behavioral health network on top, often from a different company entirely, because behavioral health benefits are frequently carved out and administered separately from medical claims. The member experiences one card and one plan. Underneath it are two administrative systems, and only one of them decides a therapy visit.
What Optum is, in one paragraph
Optum administers the behavioral health benefit for a number of medical plans, handling the therapy and mental health side of coverage while a different part of the same insurer, or a separate company entirely, handles medical claims. Nobody enrolls in Optum on its own the way they enroll in a health plan. It arrives bundled into whichever medical plan a member already has, as the network that specifically covers mental health visits.
For a member, the practical upshot is narrow and useful: check whether your plan documents mention Optum for behavioral health, or whether the customer service number for mental health benefits differs from the number on the front of the card. If either is true, Optum is the network that applies to a therapy visit, regardless of which insurer’s name is more prominent elsewhere on the same card.
UMR is a name that shows up in this same pattern on some cards, a separate plan administrator that also sits on the Optum behavioral health network for its medical members. The mechanism is identical to a UnitedHealthcare or Oxford card carrying an Optum behavioral health line: the front name governs medical claims, and Optum governs the mental health side underneath it, regardless of which name is more familiar to the member holding the card.
A county where 128,667 people work inside health care
Health care and social assistance employs 128,667 Suffolk County residents, 16.5 percent of the 781,693 employed civilians the Census counts here, close to the statewide share of 17.6 percent rather than dramatically above it. The county’s private-sector side of that industry runs to 5,070 establishments employing 111,152 people at an average annual pay of $73,788, based on jobs physically located in the county rather than where residents happen to live.
That is a large group of people, in absolute terms, who spend their working days inside a system built around exactly this kind of two-network structure, hospital billing on one line and a separate behavioral health authorization on another. None of it is a claim about who carries an Optum-administered card specifically. The ACS figure counts residents holding health care jobs anywhere, and the QCEW figure counts jobs located inside the county, two different measures that should never be added together or treated as one number.
Suffolk’s share sitting slightly below the statewide figure is worth reporting plainly rather than reshaping into a bigger story. It is not a county where health care work is unusually concentrated compared with the rest of New York. It is a large county with a large workforce, and health care happens to be a substantial part of it, roughly in line with the state as a whole rather than standing out from it.
Reading your own card before you call anyone
The fastest way to answer the Optum question yourself is to look past the largest logo on the card for a second name, usually near a phone number labeled for behavioral health, mental health, or EAP services. If that name is Optum, or if the number connects to an Optum line when called, that is the network governing a therapy visit regardless of what insurer’s name sits above it.
If nothing on the card clearly answers the question, that is common rather than unusual, and it is exactly the situation we sort out during booking rather than leaving on the member to solve alone. We ask for the name on the front, the plan type, and whatever behavioral health information is printed, and from there we confirm the actual network rather than guess.
A benefits summary from an employer’s open enrollment packet often settles the question faster than the card itself, since it typically lists the behavioral health administrator by name in a way the physical card does not always spell out. If you still have that document, it is worth having on hand when you book, though it is not required. We can verify directly with the plan either way.
What we verify, and what we tell you
Before scheduling, we confirm which plan sits behind the Optum line on your card and read the specific cost sharing that plan sets, since Optum administering the network does not by itself set a copay, a coinsurance percentage, or a deductible. On New York-regulated plans, a therapy copay cannot run higher than your primary-care copay, though that protection depends on whether the underlying plan is one New York actually regulates.
We give you a written per-session number before anything is scheduled, built from the specific plan rather than a general statement about what Optum members typically pay, because no such general statement would be accurate across every plan Optum sits behind.
A deductible on the underlying plan resets once a year, on whatever date the plan year begins, which is not always January 1. If it has already been met through other medical costs by the time you book, coinsurance alone may apply from that point, without a further deductible stacked on top. We check where you stand as part of the same verification.
A copay, coinsurance, and a deductible describe genuinely different mechanics, and Optum sitting behind the medical plan does not settle which of them applies. A copay is a flat number that does not move regardless of what the visit costs. Coinsurance is a percentage, recalculated against the allowed amount at every visit. A deductible is neither; it is a threshold that has to be cleared first, and until it clears, the full allowed cost of a session can apply before a copay or coinsurance figure ever takes over. Some plans behind an Optum behavioral health line even carry a mental health deductible tracked separately from the medical one, which is one more reason the plan document, not the front of the card, has the final answer.
Health care work itself, the sector employing well over a hundred thousand Suffolk County residents, tends to run on rotating shifts, overnight coverage, and schedules set weeks out with little room to move. None of that is a claim about who books a first session or why, but it is a real reason a standing weekly appointment needs to be able to shift when a shift does, rather than falling apart the first time a schedule changes.
Booking a first session
Adults 18 and older across Brentwood reach Optum through a UnitedHealthcare, Oxford, or UMR medical plan, most often through work. People come in for anxiety, burnout, caregiver burnout, and everyday stress management.
Health care work in Suffolk County rarely runs on a fixed schedule: a rotating shift that flips from days to nights every few weeks, a phone still expected to be checked on a day off, exhaustion that builds across a stretch of overnight coverage. A standing weekly appointment is usually the first thing hours like that break, and a clinician working with health care staff here plans for a time that may need to move more than once.
128,667 health care jobs describes the size of Suffolk County’s workforce in that sector, not which of those workers is running on disrupted hours, and working in health care is not itself a reason to start therapy.
MindView has no office in Brentwood, and every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York. A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against.
Book online; it takes about 30 seconds, and we verify the rest, including which underlying plan applies before your first appointment is confirmed. From there you set a recurring weekly time, with the cost already settled rather than something that turns up later on a statement.
What Optum covers here
- •Optum is the behavioral health network behind several medical plans, including UnitedHealthcare, Oxford and UMR. It is not something you enroll in separately.
- •Look for a separate behavioral health phone number or network name on your card. That line, not the front logo, governs a therapy visit.
- •You pay your plan's share, never the difference between it and the full session fee.
- •On New York-regulated plans, your therapy copay cannot be higher than your primary-care copay. That cap does not apply to coverage an employer buys outside New York or funds itself.
- •We verify which underlying plan sits behind the Optum line and give the per-session cost in writing before anything is scheduled.

Your first session is an intake, by secure video from anywhere in New York State.
What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Optum questions
I have never heard of Optum. Did I sign up for it?
No. Optum administers the behavioral health benefit for several medical plans rather than being a plan you buy on its own. If a benefits portal or a phone menu sent you to Optum, that is your plan's behavioral health network, and we are in it.
My card says UnitedHealthcare, not Optum. Am I in the right place?
Probably yes. Optum sits behind several cards, including UnitedHealthcare, Oxford and UMR. Look for a separate behavioral health line or network name on the card, and we confirm which applies to you before booking.
Why does the behavioral health benefit have its own network?
A therapy visit and a medical visit can be governed by different lines on the same card. The practical move is to read the small type or let us check it for you rather than assume the front logo tells the whole story.
Does working in health care change what I pay?
No. 128,667 Suffolk County residents work in health care and social assistance, a county figure close to the statewide share rather than unusually high. That figure says nothing about who carries a card that routes through Optum specifically.
What does a session cost?
Your copay, coinsurance, or remaining deductible under the plan sitting behind the Optum line. We verify and give the number in writing before anything is booked, and you are never billed the gap between it and the full session fee.
