Why MindView

Most therapy in Lockport has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Plenty of practices take Medicare. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Medicare in Lockport, in short

MindView Therapy is in-network with Medicare and sees Lockport adults by secure video anywhere in New York State. Medicare is federal, and for mental health telehealth your own home counts as a permitted location, so there is no geographic rule to work around. In 2026 you pay the $283 Part B deductible first, then 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount, unless a second layer of coverage picks that share up.

Niagara County had 54,557 Medicare beneficiaries in 2025, and about one in eight of them qualified through disability rather than age. The number that decides cost, though, is smaller. Only 15,268 were in Original Medicare, and that is the group the $283 deductible and the 20 percent coinsurance actually describe. Even inside it, what you owe usually depends on what sits behind Medicare.

Yes, and what that covers

MindView Therapy is in-network with Medicare, and Lockport adults are seen by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York. Medicare’s telehealth rules do not restrict where in the state you can be during the session, so your own home counts the same as anywhere else. There is no Lockport office and no in-person alternative offered.

Adults on Medicare through disability rather than age are seen here too. Nothing about the coverage below is written only for people over 65.

That distinction matters more than it might seem. Niagara County’s beneficiary count includes a real number of adults who qualified through a disability determination, and every coverage rule described here reads exactly the same way for them.

An adult in their forties or fifties who qualified for Medicare through a disability determination is answering a different question than a retiree is, and both are seen here without either one being treated as the exception.

Medicare in Niagara County, by the count

Niagara County had 54,557 Medicare beneficiaries in 2025. Of those, 15,268 were in Original Medicare, 28.0 percent, and the rest carried a private plan. 7,079 county beneficiaries, 13.0 percent, qualify through disability rather than age, which is a meaningful share and one reason this is not only a page for older adults.

The 65-plus picture layers further. Among the county’s 42,708 residents 65 and older, 30,369 carry two or more types of health coverage at once, 71.1 percent, while 11,047, 25.9 percent, hold Medicare and nothing else. Most Niagara County seniors are stacking coverage, not relying on a single card.

That stacking matters because it is the difference between two very different cost stories, and neither one is guessable from the beneficiary count alone. A senior with Medicare only is in one situation. A senior with Medicare plus something else is usually in a better one, and the county’s own numbers say most Niagara seniors fall into the second group.

For the 7,079 Niagara County beneficiaries who qualify through disability rather than age, a first session often carries a specific kind of adjustment: a work identity that changed faster than expected, a daily structure that used to come from a job and now has to be rebuilt from scratch, a social circle that got smaller as friendships built around a workplace fell away once the workplace did. For a beneficiary who qualified by age instead, a first session more often carries a recent medical change, a spouse’s new diagnosis, or a friend group that has been shrinking one loss at a time.

Qualifying for Medicare, at any age, is not itself a reason to start therapy. It means that the two most common paths into this county’s 54,557-person Medicare population tend to arrive at a first session already carrying something specific, not something vague.

Original Medicare math for 2026

The famous Medicare numbers describe Original Medicare specifically, not every beneficiary in the county. In 2026 the Part B deductible is $283. Once that is met, you pay 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount for an outpatient mental health visit, and there is no session limit when care is medically necessary.

Original Medicare has no annual out-of-pocket cap built into it. That 20 percent keeps applying to every visit for the rest of the year unless something else is sitting behind it to absorb the share.

No referral is required to start outpatient mental health care on Original Medicare. That is one less step between deciding to book and actually being seen, regardless of which layer of coverage you carry behind the red, white and blue card.

The deductible is the part that resets, not the coinsurance rate. Once the $283 is met for the year, the 20 percent stays fixed on every visit after that, so a session booked in March, after clearing the deductible early, costs less out of pocket than the same visit would have in January.

Finding out where you stand on the deductible does not require guesswork. Your Medicare Summary Notice, mailed quarterly, or your account at Medicare.gov shows what has been applied toward it so far this year, and we check that alongside any second layer of coverage before quoting a number.

The second layer, and why it decides your cost

Most Niagara County seniors carry a second layer, and that layer is usually what actually decides the number. A Medigap policy typically pays at least half of the 20 percent coinsurance, and many pay all of it, which is why some Original Medicare members owe close to nothing per session once the deductible clears for the year.

We do not guess which situation applies to you. We ask what, if anything, sits behind your Medicare card and check it before your first session, so the number you hear is the one that actually applies rather than the headline 20 percent figure on its own.

The practical upshot is that the 20 percent figure is a starting point for a conversation, not a final answer. Two Niagara County beneficiaries, both in Original Medicare, both past the $283 deductible, can owe two very different numbers depending entirely on what else is behind the card.

A Medigap policy is not the only version of a second layer. Some beneficiaries carry retiree coverage from a former employer instead, and others have no second layer at all, in which case the 20 percent genuinely is the number every visit. All three situations are common enough in Niagara County that we treat none of them as the default and check yours specifically.

A Medicare Advantage plan, the private alternative some beneficiaries choose instead of Original Medicare plus a Medigap policy, is a fourth structure entirely, with its own copay rules rather than the 20 percent coinsurance model. We do not assume network status for a plan of that kind, which is why sorting out which structure you actually hold comes first and gets verified before booking.

What Medicare will not pay for

Couples counseling aimed at relationship issues alone is not something Medicare covers. Family or couples sessions are covered only when they are part of medically necessary treatment of the enrolled person’s own diagnosed condition, which is a narrower door than a general couples benefit.

The card matters here too. The red, white and blue paper card is Original Medicare. A card with a private company’s name on it is a different product, commonly a Medicare Advantage plan, and we do not assume network status for one of those. We verify which card you carry before booking rather than treating the word Medicare on a card as the whole answer.

That check is quick, and it is worth doing before booking rather than after, since the two products look similar from the outside but are not interchangeable for network purposes.

Session frequency is not restricted beyond medical necessity either. A course of weekly outpatient therapy is a normal use of the benefit, not something that requires special justification beyond what any outpatient mental health treatment would.

Booking from a Lockport living room

Book through the booking page with your Medicare card and any secondary coverage card in hand. We verify what sits behind your Medicare, tell you the per-session number, and get a weekly time on the calendar.

A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, what you want different, and a baseline using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against.

Many people booking here are working through grief, loneliness, depression, or anxiety alongside a chronic health condition. The Lockport therapy page covers what MindView offers locally, and therapy in New York covers coverage and licensure statewide.

What Medicare covers here

  • •Medicare is federal, and there is no geographic originating-site restriction for mental health telehealth. Your home is a permitted site for the session.
  • •In 2026 the Part B deductible is $283. After it is met, you pay 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount for outpatient mental health care.
  • •Original Medicare has no annual out-of-pocket cap on its own. A Medigap policy typically pays at least half of the 20 percent share, and many pay all of it.
  • •No referral is needed for outpatient mental health care, and there is no session limit when care is medically necessary.
  • •The red, white and blue paper card is Medicare. A card with a private company's name on it is a different product, and we check it separately before booking.

How to book with Medicare

  1. 1

Have your red, white and blue Medicare card ready, along with any secondary coverage card.

  2. 2

Book online. It takes about 30 seconds.

  3. 3

We verify the benefit, including any secondary coverage, and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled.

  4. 4

Your first session is an intake, by secure video from home or wherever you are inside New York State.

What does therapy here actually look like?

The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.

  1. Getting started

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.

  2. Mapping what is behind it

Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.

  3. Writing the plan together

You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

  4. Ongoing

Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.

Therapy here is measured, not guessed

Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.

Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Medicare questions

Can I use Medicare for therapy from my house in Lockport?

Yes. Medicare permits your home as the location for mental health telehealth, with no geographic restriction limiting where in New York you can be. The clinician is licensed in New York, and there is no Lockport office involved either way. The session happens from wherever you are, inside the state.

What will I actually pay per session in 2026?

Start with the $283 Part B deductible, then 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount once that is met. The real answer depends on whether a second layer of coverage, such as a Medigap policy, picks up that 20 percent share. We check what sits behind your Medicare before quoting a final number.

I have a card from a private company, not the red, white and blue one. Is that Medicare?

It is a different product administered by a private company rather than Original Medicare itself. We do not assume network status for it based on the word Medicare appearing somewhere on the card, so we verify which card you carry before anything is scheduled rather than after a first session.

Most people I know here have a plan card instead of the paper card. Does that mean Medicare therapy is unusual in Niagara County?

No. 15,268 of the county's 54,557 beneficiaries are in Original Medicare, which is a large group, not a rarity. It is a smaller share of the total than plan-card coverage, but it describes tens of thousands of Niagara County residents, several thousand of them in Lockport's own reach.

Can my spouse and I be seen together on Medicare?

Only in a specific sense. Medicare does not cover couples counseling for relationship issues on their own. Family or couples sessions are covered when they are part of medically necessary treatment of the enrolled person's own diagnosed condition. We explain which situation applies before booking.
