Why MindView

Most therapy in Auburn has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Plenty of practices take Medicare. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Medicare in Auburn, in short

Yes. MindView Therapy is in-network with Medicare and sees Auburn adults 18 and older by secure video anywhere in New York State. Your home counts as an approved place to receive mental health care by video, with no geographic limit attached. Most Cayuga County beneficiaries are in a Medicare Advantage plan rather than Original Medicare, and we do not assume network status for an Advantage plan. We verify which card you carry before booking.

Cayuga County is one of the places where Medicare Advantage is the majority arrangement rather than the alternative. Of 18,461 county beneficiaries, 10,173 are in Medicare Advantage or another such plan and 8,288 are in Original Medicare. That is 55.1 percent on the Advantage side. It is the reason the first thing we ask about here is the card itself rather than the coverage in general.

Here the Advantage card is the common one

Cayuga County held 18,461 Medicare beneficiaries in 2025. Of those, 10,173, or 55.1 percent, were enrolled in a Medicare Advantage or similar plan rather than Original Medicare. The remaining 8,288, 44.9 percent, held Original Medicare. In many of the counties where MindView works, Original Medicare is still the larger group and an Advantage card is the exception worth a mention. Cayuga County runs the other way, and by a real margin rather than a narrow one.

That order changes what a page like this one is for. Written for a county where Original Medicare holds the majority, a Medicare page can treat an Advantage card almost as a footnote, a special case worth one paragraph near the bottom. Here it cannot. A plain majority of the people reading this in Auburn are more likely holding a card issued by a private Advantage carrier than the federal program on its own, which means the thing that usually gets a caveat has to lead instead.

Why we ask which card before anything else

An Advantage plan is not Medicare administered directly. It is a private insurance product a carrier is paid to run on Medicare’s behalf, and that carrier builds its own network, sets its own rules for what does or does not need a referral, and decides on its own who is in it and who is not. Two Auburn residents can both describe their coverage as Medicare and be holding genuinely different plans with different rules attached.

That is why we do not assume network status for a Medicare Advantage plan the way we generally can for Original Medicare. We verify which card you carry before booking, every time, for every Advantage plan, no matter which carrier issued it. We are not naming a carrier here, because the county enrollment figures above do not break out by carrier, and naming one anyway would be a guess dressed up as a fact.

If your card says Original Medicare, that check is short and the answer is usually immediate. If it says Advantage, the check still happens, and it happens before your first session is confirmed rather than after a claim comes back denied.

The 2026 arithmetic if you are in Original Medicare

Original Medicare’s numbers for 2026 are public and specific. The annual Part B deductible is $283. After that, Original Medicare pays 80 percent of the Medicare-approved amount for an outpatient mental health visit and you owe the remaining 20 percent, with no annual limit on how much that 20 percent can add up to across a year. The standard monthly Part B premium is $202.90. These figures come from the federal government’s own fact sheet for the year, not an estimate, which is part of why they can be stated as fixed numbers rather than a range.

A Medigap supplement policy, if you carry one, is built to close exactly that 20 percent gap. Most supplement plans pay at least half of the coinsurance, and several common ones pay all of it, which changes what you actually owe at the time of a session from an open-ended percentage to something closer to zero.

A deductible met earlier in the year through other medical care, not therapy alone, counts toward the same $283 figure, so by later in the year some Original Medicare members have already cleared it before a first session ever happens. None of this describes an Advantage plan, which sets its own copay or coinsurance structure by carrier and by plan, the same fact driving the verification step above, seen from the cost side instead of the network side.

What 5,210 Auburn residents over 65 actually hold

Auburn city counts 5,210 residents aged 65 and over, and 5,127 of them, 98.4 percent, carry some form of Medicare coverage. The largest single arrangement pairs Medicare with an employer-sponsored plan left over from a career, 1,398 residents. Medicare alone, with nothing layered on top, covers 1,219. Another 612 pair Medicare with a plan bought directly, and 484 hold both Medicare and Medicaid together.

Four different combinations, all under the word Medicare, which is the same point the earlier sections make about Advantage plans, seen from a different data source. Nobody can say what a person’s card looks like just because they are over 65 and live in Auburn.

Age itself is not a reason to book, and none of these figures says anything about why any one of the 5,210 might. But getting older, on its own, tends to bring a specific set of things into a first session, whether or not they are the stated reason for calling. Grief shows up more often, not just from a single loss but from a string of them spaced closer together than earlier in life. A medical diagnosis or a new physical limitation can change how a person thinks about the years ahead of them, separate from how it changes their body day to day. And a social circle that took decades to build can shrink quietly, through retirement, through friends moving to be near their own adult children, through the ordinary math of who is still living nearby.

None of that is a claim about any specific Auburn resident who books a session, and it is not a statement about what the 5,210 figure means beyond counting coverage. It is only an honest description of what commonly rides alongside getting older, in plain terms, the same way a person might describe it to a friend rather than a clinician.

Your home is an approved place to be seen

Medicare mental health telehealth carries no geographic originating-site restriction. That rule used to matter more, when some visits required a patient to already be at a clinical site, in a specific kind of shortage area, just to have the video appointment covered at all. None of that applies here. Your home counts as an approved place to receive care by secure video, regardless of where in New York State that home sits.

This is not only a rule for people over 65. In Auburn, 639 residents aged 19 to 64 carry Medicare coverage, 4.5 percent of that age group, above the statewide rate of 3.4 percent. We do not ask why someone under 65 holds Medicare before booking. The same verification step and the same telehealth rule apply to that card exactly as they do to any other, with no separate process and no different set of questions.

Getting a first session on the calendar

Have your card ready, whichever kind it is, and book online, which takes about 30 seconds. We check what it means for network status and cost before anything is confirmed, so the number is known before your first session rather than after a bill arrives.

A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, what you would like different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. People come to that first session for grief, for what a chronic health change has been like to carry, and for the broader life transitions that getting older can bring, alongside the full range of reasons adults seek therapy.

MindView has no office in Auburn. Every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, from anywhere in the state. See the Auburn location page for the plans covered here, part of statewide coverage across New York. From there, book online and set a recurring weekly time once the first session is scheduled.

What Medicare covers here

  • •Medicare Advantage plans are run by private carriers, each with its own network, so we check yours before booking rather than assuming the word Medicare alone answers the question.
  • •Original Medicare Part B covers outpatient mental health care after the annual deductible, then you owe 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount.
  • •A Medigap supplement, if you carry one, typically pays at least half of that 20 percent coinsurance and often all of it.
  • •Original Medicare carries no annual out-of-pocket maximum, which is part of why a supplement matters to some members and not others.
  • •Medicare mental health telehealth has no geographic originating-site restriction. Your home is a permitted place to be seen.

What does therapy here actually look like?

The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.

  1. Getting started

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.

  2. Mapping what is behind it

Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.

  3. Writing the plan together

You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

  4. Ongoing

Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.

Therapy here is measured, not guessed

Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.

Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Medicare questions

I have a Medicare Advantage plan. Are you in-network?

We do not assume network status for any Medicare Advantage plan, so the honest answer depends on the card you carry. In Cayuga County, 10,173 of 18,461 Medicare beneficiaries, 55.1 percent, are enrolled in an Advantage plan, so this is the common case here rather than the exception. We verify your specific plan's network status before booking and tell you what applies, with no carrier assumed in advance.

What is the difference between what I have and Original Medicare?

Original Medicare is the federal program itself. A Medicare Advantage plan is a private insurance product a carrier is paid to administer on Medicare's behalf, with its own network and its own rules for referrals. Your card tells us which one you have, and we check it either way before your first session, since the two work differently even though both are commonly called Medicare.

I do have Original Medicare. What does a session cost?

In 2026, Original Medicare's Part B deductible is $283 a year. After that, Medicare pays 80 percent of the approved amount for an outpatient mental health visit and you owe the remaining 20 percent, with no annual cap on that total. A Medigap supplement, if you carry one, typically covers at least half of that 20 percent and often all of it.

Do I have to travel somewhere to use Medicare telehealth?

No. Medicare mental health telehealth has no geographic originating-site restriction, and your home is an approved place to have the visit. You do not need to be in a clinic, a shortage area, or any particular kind of location. You book from wherever you are within New York State, by secure video.

I am under 65 and on Medicare. Does this apply to me?

Yes. In Auburn, 639 residents aged 19 to 64 carry Medicare coverage, 4.5 percent of that age group, above the statewide rate of 3.4 percent. The same verification step and the same telehealth rule apply to your card exactly as they do for anyone over 65. We do not ask why you have Medicare before booking.
