Why MindView
Most therapy in Corning has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Medicare. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Medicare in Corning, in short
MindView Therapy is in-network with Medicare and sees Corning adults by secure video anywhere in New York State. Outpatient therapy under Part B is self-referred, so you do not need a doctor to send you. Medicare places no geographic restriction on mental health telehealth and your home is a permitted site. In Original Medicare you pay the 2026 Part B deductible of $283 and then twenty percent of the approved amount. Advantage cards we verify first.
2,044 Corning city residents hold Medicare coverage, 19.4 percent of the city against 18.9 percent across New York State, and 334 of them are under 65. The most common reason people in that group do not call is not cost and not the network. It is a belief that somebody is supposed to send them, and for outpatient therapy under Part B that belief is simply wrong.
Nobody has to send you
Outpatient therapy under Medicare Part B is self-referred. You book directly, with no referral required from a primary care doctor or any other provider, and nothing needs to be diagnosed in advance for a first session to be covered. That single fact removes the step that keeps a lot of people over 65 waiting on someone else to make the first move.
A minority of Medicare Advantage plan designs add a referral requirement as part of how that specific private plan is built. It is the exception rather than the rule, and it is one of the things we confirm against your card before your first session, rather than something to guess at on your own or assume applies to you.
The distinction matters because a person who assumes a referral is required often waits for one that was never going to arrive. Original Medicare never asks for it, and even on the Advantage side the requirement is uncommon enough that checking your specific card beats guessing either way.
A referral is one thing, a diagnosis is another, and permission from a doctor is a third. None of the three has to exist before you book. The step that actually matters is scheduling a first session, which is what determines what happens next rather than something that has to happen before it.
What Part B covers, and what you pay in 2026
Original Medicare Part B covers outpatient mental health therapy on the same basic terms as any other outpatient medical visit. In 2026 that means a $283 annual Part B deductible, then twenty percent of the Medicare-approved amount for each session once the deductible is met, per CMS’s 2026 premiums and deductibles fact sheet. The standard Part B monthly premium is $202.90.
Original Medicare carries no annual out-of-pocket maximum, so that twenty percent coinsurance keeps applying to every covered session across the year unless something else offsets it. A Medigap supplement plan typically pays at least half of that coinsurance, and depending on the plan type, sometimes all of it, which is worth checking against whatever supplement you actually carry rather than assuming.
None of this applies automatically to a Medicare Advantage plan, which sets its own cost sharing separate from the Part B numbers above. That is exactly why the card in your hand, not the word Medicare on top of it, is what we check before quoting you a number.
The Part B deductible applies once per calendar year, not once per provider and not once per type of visit. If you have already met it through other outpatient medical care before you start therapy, that step is already behind you, and the twenty percent coinsurance is what remains for each session that follows.
Which card you carry decides the rest
“Medicare” on a card can describe two different arrangements. Original Medicare is federal and runs on the deductible and coinsurance terms above, unchanged no matter which state you live in. A Medicare Advantage plan is Medicare benefits delivered through a private insurance carrier instead, with that carrier’s own network, its own rules, and occasionally its own referral step layered on top.
We do not assume network status for a Medicare Advantage plan from the payer name alone. Whichever Advantage plan is printed on your card, we verify it before booking rather than treating “Medicare” as one uniform answer, because the private carrier behind the card is the fact that actually decides your coverage.
This is not a claim that every Advantage plan works the same way, or that one is better than another. It is the opposite: cards vary enough that a specific check is the only honest answer, and it is the same check regardless of which carrier issued yours.
What stays the same on our side is the check itself. We ask which type of Medicare you carry, check what it covers for outpatient mental health, and tell you the cost before you commit to anything. That check takes the same amount of care whether the answer turns out to be simple or not.
The door opens from the inside
2,044 Corning city residents hold Medicare coverage, 19.4 percent of the city compared with 18.9 percent across New York State, and 334 of them are under 65. The belief that somebody has to send you to therapy is common in this age group, and it is usually wrong, resting on an older idea that talking to somebody is for people who have already been found to need it. That belief sits alongside the reason someone books a first session, often without being the stated reason for calling, and it carries into a first session that could have happened months earlier for someone whose reason to call is loss, a diagnosis, or a life that got quieter than they expected.
None of that is a claim about how many Corning residents specifically are waiting on permission that never had to be granted, which is not a figure anyone can verify or should guess at. It is a description of a common belief, not a description of this city, and saying plainly that the door opens from the inside is the correction that actually matters, whatever brought a person to read this far.
People carrying that particular kind of quiet often come in around grief, depression, or the practical strain covered by chronic pain and illness work, and plenty come in around a change in circumstance that a life transitions focus is built for. None of those reasons needs a diagnosis attached to it before the first session, and none of them needs anyone else’s sign-off first.
Your own home is an approved place to be seen
Medicare places no geographic restriction on mental health telehealth, and your own home is a permitted site for a covered session. That was not always true of Medicare telehealth broadly, but for mental health specifically it is settled, so there is no separate originating-site rule standing between a Corning kitchen table and a covered appointment.
In practice that means no drive and no waiting room. The rule is written around the kind of care, mental health specifically, not around where in the state you happen to live.
We have no Corning office. Every session happens by secure video, with a clinician licensed in New York State, from wherever you are in the state.
Getting a first session on the calendar
Book online in about 30 seconds. We check whether Original Medicare or your specific Medicare Advantage plan applies to you, confirm any referral step your plan design requires, and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled.
A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. People book for anxiety, grief, a change in life circumstances, or ordinary general adult therapy, and any one of those reasons is enough on its own to start.
From there you set a recurring weekly time that fits your schedule, with the cost already settled ahead of time rather than something that shows up later as a surprise on a statement.
Book through the booking page when you are ready. See the Corning location page for the full list of plans covered here, part of coverage across New York State.
What Medicare covers here

- •Medicare places no geographic restriction on mental health telehealth. Your home is a permitted site for every session.
- •A Medicare Advantage plan is run by a private carrier with its own network, so we verify the specific card you carry before booking rather than assuming it matches Original Medicare.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Medicare questions
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
Not for outpatient therapy under Original Medicare Part B. You can book directly, with nothing diagnosed and no order required in advance. A minority of Medicare Advantage plan designs add a referral step, and that is one of the things we confirm for your specific card before your first session rather than something you need to sort out alone.
What does a session cost me on Original Medicare in 2026?
A $283 Part B deductible for the year, then twenty percent of the Medicare-approved amount once that deductible is met. The standard Part B premium is $202.90 a month. A Medigap supplement typically pays at least half of that twenty percent coinsurance, and depending on the plan type, sometimes all of it.
I have a Medicare Advantage card. Are you in network?
We do not assume network status from the word Medicare printed on the card. An Advantage plan is administered by a private carrier with its own network and its own rules, so we verify the specific plan you carry before booking rather than guessing from the name alone.
I am under 65 and on Medicare. Does the same apply?
Yes. 334 Corning city residents under 65 hold Medicare coverage, and the Part B rules for outpatient mental health therapy work the same way regardless of age. We see adults 18 and older, and the self-referral rule and 2026 cost sharing above apply the same way to your card.
Does MindView have a Corning office?
No. Every Corning session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York State, and Medicare places no geographic restriction on mental health telehealth that would require an office visit. Our offices are in Queens, Buffalo and Carmel, Indiana, and they are offices rather than places clients are seen.
