Why MindView

Most therapy in Lockport has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Plenty of practices take MagnaCare. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

MagnaCare in Lockport, in short

MindView Therapy is in-network with MagnaCare and sees Lockport adults by secure video anywhere in New York State. MagnaCare is not a plan you shop for. If your union fund or employer plan uses MagnaCare, the logo sits on a card that carries your fund's own name, and the fund sets the copay or deductible. We check what your specific fund owes per session before you book.

The question that works at intake is not whether you have MagnaCare. It is whether your card has the MagnaCare logo on it, because members almost always know their coverage by the fund's name instead. In Niagara County that card often belongs to somebody in the building trades, and the cost share printed against it was negotiated rather than purchased. Spouses and dependents normally carry the same card.

Short answer for Lockport fund members

MindView Therapy is in-network with MagnaCare, and Lockport adults are seen by secure video with a New York licensed clinician. That holds anywhere in the state. There is no Lockport office, and no MindView location offers in-person sessions as an alternative to video.

The card you actually check at intake is your fund’s, not a MagnaCare card on its own. Have it ready, and we confirm the network and the benefit before booking anything.

Most people arrive here already knowing they have coverage. What they do not know yet is what it costs per session, and that is the part we settle before booking.

The card with your fund’s name on it

MagnaCare is not a plan anybody buys. It arrives through a union or Taft-Hartley health and welfare fund, or through an employer that self-funds its own plan and rents the network. The card a member carries usually shows the fund’s name in large type, with MagnaCare printed underneath as the network.

That means the question “do you take MagnaCare” is often unanswerable from memory, because a member may not recognize the word at all. What they recognize is their fund’s name. The practical fix is simple: look for the MagnaCare logo on the card, and if it is there, the answer is yes.

Spouses and dependents typically carry the same card as the member, so a partner booking a session is usually working from the same benefit rather than a separate one that needs to be tracked down. That single check, the logo rather than the fund name, is the fastest way to get a real answer without waiting on a phone call to a plan administrator.

Trades work across Niagara County

Construction and the skilled trades are where a MagnaCare card shows up most often in this county. Niagara County has 6,333 residents employed in construction out of 99,741 employed residents total, 6.4 percent. Among employed men specifically, 5,731 work in construction, roughly one in nine. In Lockport city, 740 of 10,734 employed residents work in construction, 6.9 percent.

Trades work is where a Taft-Hartley fund is common precisely because it is a way to carry consistent benefits across a career built on shorter-term jobs and different employers. The fund follows the worker rather than any single job site, which is also why the fund’s name, not an employer’s, ends up on the card.

A worker moving between projects and contractors over the course of a year would otherwise face a gap in coverage every time a job ends. A fund structure is built specifically to prevent that gap, which is also why it looks different on paper from a standard employer plan and why the card carries the fund’s identity instead.

Outside of construction, MagnaCare also shows up through other Taft-Hartley arrangements across the county, so a card is not proof of trades work specifically, only proof of a fund-based benefit. The logo check works the same way regardless of which trade or profession the fund actually represents.

Years of framing a house or setting rebar wears on a body in predictable ways: a lower back that stiffens overnight, a grip that gives out faster by the end of a pour, a knee that complains on a ladder it used to climb without thinking. Physically demanding work like this is common enough among the 740 Lockport residents working construction that it is often the thing that finally gets said out loud once a weekly session gives someone a reason to say it.

Working a trade does not mean a body is failing, and physical strain on its own is not a reason to book therapy. It means that for a lot of tradespeople in Lockport, the conversation at intake starts with the body before it gets anywhere near what actually brought them in.

What a fund sets, and what it does not

A fund-negotiated benefit is not something anybody in the household chose off a shelf. It is a design bargained on the member’s behalf, and it can use a flat copay, a deductible followed by coinsurance, or some combination the fund decided. No universal figure describes it, and nothing published for one fund tells you anything reliable about another.

Staying inside the MagnaCare network materially reduces what a member owes compared with going outside it. Beyond that general shape, the honest answer to “what will this cost” is a lookup, not a guess, and it is the lookup we do before your first session rather than after it.

A copay is a flat dollar amount charged per visit, set by the fund. Coinsurance is a percentage of the visit cost you owe once a deductible has cleared. Some funds use one, some the other, and neither can be assumed from a job title or a trade alone.

A deductible is the piece that trips people up. It is a running yearly total that has to clear before coinsurance, and on some fund designs before any cost sharing at all, applies to a visit. An unmet deductible early in the year can mean paying close to the full session cost for the first several weeks, then a much smaller number once the total clears.

We check where your deductible stands before your first session, using whatever the fund provides, a member portal, a summary plan document, or a phone line printed on the card, so the early cost is expected rather than a surprise on a bill weeks later.

A fund built around one trade can look nothing like a fund built around another, even where the two negotiate with similar employers in the same county. That is not a flaw in how funds work. It is a consequence of each one bargaining separately on behalf of a different group of members, which is exactly why a published table of fund benefits does not exist for us to hand you, and why the check happens person by person instead.

Who books through a fund here

Adults 18 and older across Lockport and Niagara County book here, often for anger, depression, or the kind of strain that comes with physically demanding chronic pain and illness. Some are working through PTSD, and men’s mental health is a common specific entry point in trades-heavy households.

A weekly time gets set at intake and held from there. General therapy covers whatever brought you in that does not fit a narrower label, and nobody needs a diagnosis before the first conversation starts.

Trades schedules move with the season and the job site, and a video session travels with that better than a fixed office appointment would, since the only requirement is a private hour, not a particular address.

Family members holding the same fund card book here too. A spouse managing the household while a partner works long or irregular hours on a job site is a common enough situation that we treat it as ordinary rather than unusual, and the same benefit check applies to them as to the primary cardholder.

The first call, and the logo question

Book through the booking page with your fund’s card ready. Check for the MagnaCare logo before you call, since that is the fastest way to confirm the network applies. We verify the fund’s specific benefit and give you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled.

A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, the history that matters to it, and what you want different, with a baseline taken using standardized measures.

The Lockport therapy page covers what MindView offers locally, and therapy in New York covers how coverage and licensure work statewide. What MindView offers is outpatient weekly therapy. If something heavier comes up in that first conversation, we say so and help you find the right level of care.

What MagnaCare covers here

  • •MagnaCare arrives through a union or Taft-Hartley health and welfare benefit fund, or through a self-funded employer plan, never as a plan bought on its own.
  • •Cost sharing is set by each fund. Some use a flat copay, others a deductible with coinsurance after it. No single figure describes every fund.
  • •Members identify their coverage by the fund's name, not by MagnaCare. The question that actually works is whether the card carries the MagnaCare logo underneath.
  • •Spouses and dependents typically carry the same card, so a partner booking is usually the same conversation as the member's own.
  • •Staying inside the network materially reduces what a member pays out of pocket compared with going outside it.

How to book with MagnaCare

  1. 1

Have your fund's card ready and check whether the MagnaCare logo appears on it.

  2. 2

Book online. It takes about 30 seconds.

  3. 3

We verify the benefit and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled.

  4. 4

Your first session is an intake, by secure video from anywhere in New York State.

What does therapy here actually look like?

The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.

  1. Getting started

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.

  2. Mapping what is behind it

Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.

  3. Writing the plan together

You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

  4. Ongoing

Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.

Therapy here is measured, not guessed

Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.

Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

MagnaCare questions

My card says my fund's name, not MagnaCare. Am I covered?

Very likely yes. Members are enrolled through the fund, and the MagnaCare logo printed on the card underneath the fund's name is what tells us the network applies. Have the card handy when you book so we can confirm quickly rather than guess from the fund name alone.

I work out of Lockport but jobs take me across Western New York. Does that change anything?

No. Clinicians are licensed for New York State rather than for a city, so a session is valid anywhere inside the state, Lockport included. The one real limit is that you have to be physically located in New York during the session itself, wherever the job happens to have you that week.

Can I buy a MagnaCare plan for myself?

No. It is a negotiated benefit that comes bundled with a fund or an employer plan, not a product sold on its own to an individual. If you are shopping for coverage rather than working from a fund card, that is a different conversation, and we can tell you which of the plans we take might actually fit what you can buy.

Does my spouse's card work the same way?

Usually yes, since dependents typically carry the same fund card as the member and the same MagnaCare network applies to them. We still verify each person's benefit separately when they book, rather than assuming one household's check automatically covers everyone listed on it.

What will a session cost me?

The fund sets it, so there is no single number to publish here. A copay is a flat amount per visit, coinsurance is a percentage owed after a deductible clears. We read your fund's specific design and give you the number before booking, rather than quote an average.
