Why MindView
Most therapy in Troy has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Medicare. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Medicare in Troy, in short
MindView Therapy is in-network with Medicare for Troy clients, seen by secure video anywhere in New York State. You pay your plan's copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee, and we verify your benefits before your first session. We do not have a Troy office, and we are accepting new clients now.
If you searched for a Medicare therapist in Troy, this is the short version. We take Medicare, we are accepting new clients, and you can book online in about 30 seconds. Sessions are by secure video, so there is no commute and no waiting room, and your telehealth benefit applies the same way it would to an office visit.
Does MindView take Medicare in Troy?
Yes. We are in-network with Medicare, and we see Troy clients by secure video anywhere in New York State.
Medicare pays its share directly and leaves you the 20 percent coinsurance, which is a percentage rather than a flat number. Nothing beyond that share is billed to you.
We should be equally direct about the other half: we do not have an office in Troy. Our nearest office is in Queens, about 155 miles away. Care happens online by secure video. Plenty of people prefer being in a room, and if that is what you want, a local outpatient practice is the right call.
What should I know about Medicare specifically?
Two things about Medicare that are worth stating plainly, because they surprise people. First, Part B covers outpatient therapy after your deductible, and you are generally responsible for 20 percent coinsurance unless a supplement covers it. Second, Medicare generally does not cover couples or family therapy when the purpose is the relationship itself rather than treatment of your diagnosed condition. We will tell you which situation you are in before you are billed for anything.
How does Medicare cover therapy?
Part B covers outpatient mental health care with a licensed provider, and it has since the coinsurance was leveled with medical care. What moves is your out-of-pocket share, not whether the visit qualifies.
Medicare does not require a referral to see an in-network therapist. Advantage plans can add rules that Original Medicare does not, so we check which you have.
What usually goes wrong with Medicare?
The most common snag is assuming Medicare works like a commercial plan. It does not: expect 20 percent coinsurance after the deductible rather than a flat copay, unless a supplement or Advantage plan changes that. The other is couples work, which Medicare generally does not cover on its own.
That is the sort of thing worth learning before a bill exists rather than after one does.
What will I pay?
Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage produce different numbers, so the answer starts with which one you have.
Under Part B, you are generally responsible for 20 percent coinsurance after the annual deductible, unless a Medigap supplement or a Medicare Advantage plan changes that. Medicare Advantage plans often use a flat copay instead.
We work out your share and tell you before your first appointment. No first statement you were not warned about.
Who do you help in Troy?
A good share of the people who contact us in Troy are students or recent graduates, and the concerns skew accordingly: academic pressure, the transition out of school, and the first real experience of managing anxiety without a built-in structure around you.
We work with adults 18 and older, and clients come to us from Lansingburgh, South Troy, Sycaway, Watervliet, Wynantskill, and East Greenbush, and from across Rensselaer County.
Why video in Troy?
Troy is a college city, and a good share of the people who contact us here are students or recent graduates. A video session works from a dorm or apartment, and because our clinicians are licensed in New York we can keep seeing you over academic breaks as long as you are physically in the state. If you go home to another state for the summer, we cannot see you there.
Concretely: a New York licensed clinician, a telehealth visit Part B recognizes, and no drive on either end of it.
Does therapy by video actually work?
Trials comparing therapy by video with the same therapy in a room have generally found similar results for outpatient concerns, including in older adults, who were once assumed to do worse with it. They largely do not.
What we hold ourselves to is your own trend. Standardized measures monthly, reviewed with you, and a plan that changes when the numbers do not.
Outpatient video is not the right level of care for everyone. If your situation calls for more, we will say so rather than keep the appointment.
What happens after I book?
The first appointment is an intake. What brought you in gets named and rated 0 to 10, and that number is your baseline. The work then goes wider before it goes deeper, at exactly the depth you permit, and the goals end up in your vocabulary.
After that the schedule is weekly, with a monthly review of your measures.
What else do you take in Troy?
Alongside Medicare, we are in-network in Troy with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. If you also carry a supplement or a spouse’s commercial plan, we can compare what each leaves you owing.
How do I start?

What Medicare covers here
- •Medicare is federal coverage for adults 65 and over and certain younger adults with disabilities. Part B covers outpatient mental health care, including therapy with a licensed provider.
- •Because we are in-network, you owe your plan's copay, coinsurance, or remaining deductible rather than the full session rate. You are not billed the difference.
- •New York State law requires most commercial plans to cover mental health services comparably to medical services. Outpatient therapy is a covered benefit.
- •Medicare does not require a referral to see an in-network therapist. We confirm the rules for your specific product when we verify benefits.
- •Behavioral telehealth is how we see Troy clients, and it is covered on most plans. We confirm the benefit level for your specific plan before your first session.
How to book with Medicare
- 1
Have your Medicare member ID card ready. Have your red, white, and blue Medicare card, or your Medicare Advantage card if you have one.
- 2
Book a session online through our secure client portal. It takes about 30 seconds.
- 3
We verify your Medicare behavioral health benefits and confirm what you will owe before your first appointment.
- 4
Come to your first session, which is an intake, by secure video from wherever you are. If your coverage details change, we tell you before it costs you anything.
What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.
Use your Medicare benefits and get started.

Medicare questions
Is MindView Therapy in-network with Medicare in Troy?
Yes. We are in-network with Medicare and see Troy clients by secure video anywhere in New York State. Our clinicians are licensed in New York, which is what makes that lawful.
Do you have an office in Troy?
No. We do not have a Troy office. Every session with a Troy client is by secure video. Our nearest office is in Queens, about 155 miles away.
What will therapy cost me with Medicare?
You pay your plan's copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee, and any unmet deductible may apply first. Costs vary by plan, so we verify your benefits and tell you the number before your first session.
Does Medicare cover couples counseling?
Generally not, when the purpose of the sessions is the relationship itself. Medicare covers treatment of a diagnosed condition, so family sessions held as part of treating your condition can be covered while relationship counseling on its own is not. We tell you which situation applies before you are billed.
