Why MindView

Most therapy in Canandaigua has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Plenty of practices take Medicare. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Medicare in Canandaigua, in short

MindView Therapy is in-network with Medicare and sees Canandaigua adults by secure video. Medicare is federal, and for mental health telehealth there is no geographic originating-site restriction, so your own home in Canandaigua is a permitted place to be seen. Nearly three in four Ontario County beneficiaries hold a Medicare Advantage card, and for those we verify network status before booking rather than assuming it.

Ontario County has 29,698 Medicare beneficiaries, and 21,579 of them hold a Medicare Advantage or similar plan rather than Original Medicare. At 72.7 percent, the Advantage card is the ordinary card here rather than the unusual one. That single fact decides how a Medicare conversation in Canandaigua has to start, because network status on an Advantage plan is a thing to confirm rather than a thing to assume.

Almost three in four hold an Advantage card here

Yes, we are in-network with Medicare, and every Canandaigua session is by secure video anywhere in New York State. But “Medicare” is not one card here. Ontario County counted 29,698 Medicare beneficiaries in 2025, and 21,579 of them, 72.7 percent, held a Medicare Advantage or similar plan rather than Original Medicare. Only 8,119, 27.3 percent, carried Original Medicare on its own.

That split matters because Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage work differently the moment a card gets checked. Original Medicare runs on one national set of rules. Advantage is sold by a private insurer under contract with Medicare, and each plan builds its own network. In a county where almost three of every four beneficiaries carry an Advantage card, the Advantage question is the ordinary first question here, not something to get to eventually.

These figures describe Ontario County, not a Canandaigua city count. CMS reports Medicare enrollment at the county level, and the city sits inside that county total without a separate number of its own.

Medicare is a federal program, and for mental health telehealth there is no geographic originating-site restriction attached to it. That rule used to matter, and does not anymore: your own living room in Canandaigua is a permitted place to be seen, the same as a clinic would have been under the old rule. Nothing about being in Ontario County rather than a bigger metro area changes that.

Why we check the card before we book

We do not assume network status for any Medicare Advantage plan. Advantage plans are built and priced by dozens of different insurers, and which ones we are in-network with changes independently of whether we take Medicare at all. Saying yes to “Medicare” and saying yes to one specific Advantage plan are two different answers, and treating them as the same thing is exactly how someone ends up billed for a session they thought was covered.

So the order runs card first, booking second. Tell us what is printed on yours, Original Medicare or the name of an Advantage plan, and we confirm what applies before anything goes on the calendar. For Original Medicare that check is usually quick. For an Advantage plan it means an actual verification rather than a guess, because in this county an Advantage card is more often what we are looking at than not.

An Advantage plan can share a familiar name with Original Medicare and still build its own network entirely separately, the same way an employer plan or a marketplace plan does. Being in-network with Medicare says nothing on its own about whether we are in-network with any particular Advantage insurer’s plan. The two questions get answered on their own terms every time, because treating one as an answer to the other is the exact mistake this check exists to prevent.

What Original Medicare pays, and what you owe

Original Medicare’s cost structure is public and does not vary by insurer. The 2026 Part B deductible is $283 a year. Once that is met, you owe 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount for an outpatient therapy session, and Medicare pays the other 80 percent. The standard Part B premium is $202.90 a month, usually deducted from a Social Security payment before it reaches a bank account.

A Medicare Supplement, sometimes called Medigap, or another secondary plan can cover some or all of that 20 percent, which is why two people who both have Original Medicare can owe very different amounts for the same session. We check whether you carry a supplement and confirm your actual number before you book, rather than quoting the 20 percent figure as if it applied evenly to everyone.

Advantage plans set their own cost sharing separately from these numbers entirely, which is one more reason the deductible and coinsurance figures above describe Original Medicare and not every Medicare card.

The $283 deductible resets on the calendar year, so where you stand against it in any given month depends on what other outpatient care you have already used in 2026. Once it is met, the 20 percent coinsurance applies to covered outpatient services for the rest of the year, therapy included, rather than starting over on a separate deductible specific to mental health.

What the years after 65 actually bring in

Of Ontario County’s 29,698 Medicare beneficiaries, 26,894 qualify by age. Past 65, loss tends to arrive as a series rather than a single event: a driver’s license handed back after a bad eye exam, a spouse’s cardiology follow-ups filling up the calendar, a house that used to hold a family now holding one person with rooms nobody uses anymore, sleep that no longer holds together past two or three in the morning. None of that carries an obvious name of its own, which is part of why it often surfaces in a first session as being tired rather than as grief, arriving in installments months after whatever actually happened.

None of that is a claim about the 26,894 people the figure counts. Most people who qualify for Medicare by age are not in crisis, and turning 65 is not itself a problem to be solved. The number describes how a county’s beneficiaries are counted, not what any one caller is carrying. What it gives us is a reason to expect that a first session here sometimes holds a loss that was never named as one, not a description of who books here.

The other 2,805 Ontario County beneficiaries qualify through disability rather than age. We do not ask why, and coverage of outpatient therapy works the same regardless of which route brought someone to a Medicare card.

Who books here

Adults 18 and older across Canandaigua reach us on Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage card, most often around grief, a life transition, loneliness after a household changes shape, the practical weight of chronic pain or illness, or depression that showed up without an obvious trigger. None of that requires a diagnosis already in hand before you call.

MindView has no office in Canandaigua, and every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, from wherever you are inside the state. General therapy is the option to start from if nothing above is quite the right fit, and booking runs through choosing a therapist when you are ready.

A weekly hour is easier to keep once the cost question is already settled, which is the practical reason coverage gets confirmed before the first session goes on the calendar rather than sorted out afterward on a statement. That order does not change based on which kind of Medicare card you carry, Original or Advantage, only what gets checked does.

From here to a first session

Have your Medicare card ready, plus an Advantage, Supplement, or other secondary plan card if you carry one. Tell us which kind of Medicare you have when you book, since that decides whether we are confirming a fast yes or checking a specific plan’s network.

Book online; it takes about 30 seconds, and we verify your coverage and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled. Your first session is an intake: what brought you in, the background behind it, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. From there you set a standing weekly time, and the cost is already settled by the time you sit down for it.

What Medicare covers here

  • •Original Medicare covers outpatient mental health therapy the same way it covers other outpatient medical care, subject to the annual Part B deductible and 20 percent coinsurance.
  • •Nearly three in four Ontario County Medicare beneficiaries hold a Medicare Advantage or similar plan, so we verify your specific plan's network status rather than assuming it.
  • •Medicare is federal, and there is no geographic originating-site restriction for mental health telehealth. Your own home in Canandaigua is a permitted place to be seen.
  • •A Medicare Supplement or other secondary plan can cover some or all of the 20 percent coinsurance owed under Original Medicare, which is why we confirm your specific plan before quoting a number.
  • •Coverage of outpatient therapy works the same whether you qualify for Medicare by age or through disability.

How to book with Medicare

  1. 1

Have your Medicare card ready, along with any Advantage, Supplement, or other secondary plan card you carry.

  2. 2

Tell us whether you have Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan, and the plan name if it applies.

  3. 3

Book online. It takes about 30 seconds.

  4. 4

We verify your coverage and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled.

What does therapy here actually look like?

The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.

  1. Getting started

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.

  2. Mapping what is behind it

Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.

  3. Writing the plan together

You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

  4. Ongoing

Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.

Therapy here is measured, not guessed

Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.

Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Medicare questions

I have a Medicare Advantage card. Am I covered with you?

We do not assume network status for a Medicare Advantage plan. Advantage plans are sold by dozens of different insurers, each with its own network, so we check whether yours includes us before booking rather than guessing. This matters especially in Canandaigua, where 21,579 of Ontario County's 29,698 Medicare beneficiaries, 72.7 percent, hold an Advantage or similar plan, so verifying the specific card is the normal first step here, not a rare exception.

Can I have therapy by video from my own home in Canandaigua?

Yes. Medicare is federal, and for mental health telehealth there is no geographic originating-site restriction, so your own home in Canandaigua is a permitted place to be seen. Every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, and nothing about being in Ontario County rather than a larger city changes that.

What does a session cost on Original Medicare?

After the 2026 Part B deductible of $283 is met, Original Medicare pays 80 percent of the Medicare-approved amount and you owe the remaining 20 percent, unless a Medicare Supplement or other secondary plan covers some or all of that share. The standard Part B premium is $202.90 a month. We confirm whether you carry a supplement and tell you your actual number before booking.

I qualified through disability rather than age. Is anything different?

No. Coverage of outpatient therapy works the same whether you qualified for Medicare by age or through disability. Of Ontario County's 29,698 Medicare beneficiaries, 2,805 qualify through disability rather than age. We do not ask why, and it has no bearing on what your plan covers or what a session costs.

Does MindView have a Canandaigua office?

No. Every Canandaigua session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, from wherever you are in the state. Our nearest offices are in Queens and Buffalo, named here as offices rather than places to be seen in person.
