Most therapy in Canandaigua has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take UnitedHealthcare. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.

Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

UnitedHealthcare in Canandaigua, in short
MindView Therapy is in-network with UnitedHealthcare and sees Canandaigua adults by secure video across New York State. In Ontario County UnitedHealthcare is an employer group plan rather than something you can buy for yourself, because the individual marketplace route exists in fourteen New York counties and this is not one of them. We verify your specific benefit and give you the per-session number before you book.
Canandaigua and the county around it do not look the same on paper. The Census counts 3,579 of 6,029 city residents aged 19 to 64 with employer-based coverage, 59.4 percent, against 66.9 percent across Ontario County. That seven-point gap is the reason a page like this refuses to quote a typical cost, because a typical Ontario County plan is not the same thing as the plan a Canandaigua household actually holds.
The county average is not the city figure
In Ontario County, 43,021 of 64,290 adults aged 19 to 64 hold coverage through an employer, 66.9 percent. Inside Canandaigua city the same measure covers 3,579 of 6,029 adults, 59.4 percent. Both numbers are real, both come from the same Census table, and both describe actual people, but they describe two different populations. Treating the county figure as though it applies to a Canandaigua household is exactly where an assumed plan turns out to be the wrong one.
The city estimate carries a margin of error of about plus or minus 315, roughly nine percent of the figure itself. The county estimate is tighter, with a margin near two percent. Even worked out to the edge of both ranges, the gap survives: Canandaigua city sits measurably below the county that contains it on employer-based coverage among working-age adults, not just within rounding.
Statewide, the same measure lands at 61.2 percent, closer to the city’s number than to the county’s. That does not make the city typical of the state either. It only reinforces the point that a single number attached to Ontario County was never going to describe every place inside it evenly, Canandaigua included.
The seven and a half point gap between city and county is the practical reason to check a UnitedHealthcare plan by name rather than assume a Canandaigua household’s coverage looks like the county average. A number that holds at the county level does not automatically hold inside one of the cities that makes it up, and that difference is the reason a benefits lookup beats a quoted average here.
Employer coverage, and no other route here
UnitedHealthcare sells an individual marketplace plan directly to a shopper in fourteen New York counties, and every one of them is downstate. Ontario County is not among the fourteen, which means there is exactly one route onto a UnitedHealthcare plan in Canandaigua: an employer builds it into a benefits package and an employee enrolls through that job. Nobody here buys a UnitedHealthcare plan the way a downstate shopper picks one off a marketplace listing.
New York State of Health’s own enrollment count for Ontario County, current as of August 2026, lists no UnitedHealthcare individual-market enrollees at all. That is a second, independent confirmation that the marketplace route is not sold here, separate from the county list itself. If a UnitedHealthcare card exists in a Canandaigua household, an employer is the reason it exists.
That single route matters for what a plan actually covers, because the employer chooses the specific design underneath the UnitedHealthcare name: which cost-sharing structure applies, how a deductible is built, whether a referral step gets added. Two Canandaigua households can both carry a UnitedHealthcare card and be enrolled in two genuinely different plans, because two different employers built them separately.
That is also why we never assume what your plan covers from the UnitedHealthcare name alone. The name on the card tells us who administers the benefit. What the benefit actually pays is set one employer at a time, and confirming it is a lookup, not a guess.
What you owe per session, and who decides it
Most UnitedHealthcare employer plans use one of three cost-sharing structures for an outpatient therapy session: a flat copay, a coinsurance percentage of the allowed amount, or your remaining share of a deductible for the plan year. Which one applies to you is written into the plan your employer selected, not into UnitedHealthcare as a brand generally, and it can differ from a coworker’s plan even at the same company.
We do not quote an average, because an accurate one does not exist across this many separately built plans. We verify what your specific plan document actually says once you give us your member ID, and we tell you the number that applies before your first session is placed on the calendar, not after a bill arrives with a surprise on it.
New York’s mental health parity requirements put most outpatient behavioral health on the same cost-sharing footing as outpatient medical care, for plans that the state regulates. Coverage bought outside New York, or a self-funded employer plan governed by federal rather than state rules, can work a little differently, which is one more reason a plan-specific check beats a general rule about how parity applies.
A referral is usually not required before booking an outpatient therapy session. Most plan designs let you self-refer, meaning you book directly without a separate authorization step first. A minority of designs add one, and confirming whether yours is among them is part of the same benefits check, not a separate errand.
Why an average is the wrong thing to plan around
Falling on the wrong side of that seven-point gap, 59.4 percent in the city against 66.9 percent across Ontario County, tends to show up in small moments rather than one dramatic one: a lunch-break call to a benefits line that answers nothing, an explanation of benefits read alone at the kitchen table that does not match what a coworker described over lunch. That kind of unsettled arithmetic gets in the way of ever picking up the phone, and it is often still sitting there when someone finally books an intake, where naming the real number is the first thing a session actually resolves, before it turns into a routine weekly hour.
That is not a claim about how anxious or burdened any particular Canandaigua household feels, and a seven-point coverage gap is not evidence of hardship or of anyone’s health. It describes a population’s coverage type in a Census table, not one person’s situation, and it says nothing about how many Canandaigua residents specifically carry a UnitedHealthcare card. What it establishes is a reason to check a plan by its own name instead of assuming a county figure describes it.
The same logic carries over to cost, not just to whether someone has employer coverage at all. Because plan design is set employer by employer rather than county by county, an average copay or an average deductible would not describe any one real Canandaigua plan particularly well. That is why we never state one, and look up yours instead of guessing at it.
Who books here
Adults across Canandaigua book a UnitedHealthcare-covered session for the ordinary reasons people come to therapy at all: a stretch of anxiety that will not settle on its own, a depression that has flattened out an otherwise normal week, or the kind of life transition that reshuffles everything else around it. Others come for plain stress management around a job or a household, and some book specifically for work-related counseling when what changed was the job itself.
MindView has no office in Canandaigua, and every session runs by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York State. You do not need a diagnosis in hand to book, and you do not need to already understand how your specific UnitedHealthcare plan works before you call. That part is confirmed on our end, not yours.
For anyone whose reason for calling does not sort neatly into one category, general therapy covers that too, and it is a fine place to start when nothing above quite fits. Browsing available clinicians and picking a time both start from the same booking page, regardless of which specific UnitedHealthcare plan design applies to you.
From here to a first session
Have your UnitedHealthcare member ID ready, whichever employer plan actually issued it. Book online, which takes about thirty seconds from start to finish. We verify your specific benefit and tell you the per-session cost, deductible included, before anything gets placed on the calendar.
A first session is an intake rather than treatment itself: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, and what you want to be different going forward. A baseline reading using standardized measures gives later sessions something concrete to check progress against, and before that first session ends you set a recurring weekly time that fits your schedule.
From there, the schedule is yours to keep, and the cost is already settled rather than something you find out about later from a statement in the mail.
What UnitedHealthcare covers here
- •Employer group coverage is the only way to hold a UnitedHealthcare plan in Ontario County. There is no individual marketplace version sold here to shop for directly.
- •Cost sharing takes the form of a copay, a coinsurance percentage, or the remainder of a deductible, and your employer's plan design decides which one applies.
- •New York's mental health parity rules put most outpatient behavioral health on the same cost-sharing footing as medical care, with an exception for coverage bought outside New York or run under federal self-funded rules.
- •A referral is usually not required before booking. Most plan designs let you self-refer straight to a session.
- •We verify your specific plan and give you the per-session cost before you book, rather than quoting a county-wide average that may not describe your plan at all.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.
Use your UnitedHealthcare benefits and get started.

UnitedHealthcare questions
Can I buy a UnitedHealthcare plan for myself in Ontario County?
No. UnitedHealthcare sells an individual marketplace plan directly to a shopper in fourteen New York counties, and Ontario County is not one of them. Here the only route onto a UnitedHealthcare plan is through an employer, who builds the benefit and offers it to employees. If your card is UnitedHealthcare, an employer is why.
My neighbor's UnitedHealthcare plan works completely differently from mine. Why?
Because employer plans are designed one employer at a time, not sold off a shelf with a single set of rules. It also tracks something real in the numbers, Canandaigua city sits at 59.4 percent employer-based coverage among adults 19 to 64, against 66.9 percent across Ontario County, so two neighbors are more likely than not to be covered through different arrangements entirely.
What will a session actually cost me?
A copay, a coinsurance percentage of the allowed amount, or the part of your deductible you have not yet met, never the full session fee. Which one applies is set by your employer's specific plan, so we look yours up and tell you the number before you book rather than quoting a general figure.
Do I need a referral before booking?
Usually not. Most UnitedHealthcare employer plan designs let you self-refer straight to an outpatient therapy session. A minority of designs add a step, and confirming whether yours is one of them is part of the same benefits check we run before your first appointment.
Does MindView have a Canandaigua office?
No. Every Canandaigua session runs by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York State, and there is no exception to that regardless of where in the county you live. Our nearest physical office is in Queens, and it functions as an office rather than a place clients are ever seen.
