Why MindView

Most therapy in Brentwood has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Plenty of practices take Oscar Health. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Oscar Health in Brentwood, in short

MindView Therapy is in-network with Oscar Health for Brentwood clients, seen by secure video anywhere in New York State. You pay your plan's copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee, and we verify your benefits before your first session. There is no Brentwood office and we are accepting new clients.

Oscar is one of the most common plans bought through the New York State of Health marketplace, which makes it a frequent card in Suffolk County. This page covers how Oscar behavioral health coverage works, what a marketplace metal tier means for what you pay, and how to start.

Yes, and the marketplace question comes first

We are in-network with Oscar Health, and Brentwood clients are seen by secure video anywhere in New York State.

The useful context for this market is where Oscar cards come from. Oscar sells heavily through the New York State of Health marketplace, the state exchange, alongside small-group employer coverage. In Suffolk County, and particularly in a community like Brentwood with a large share of self-employed workers, small-business employees and people who buy their own coverage, a substantial number of Oscar cards are marketplace plans.

That does not change whether we can see you. It changes what you pay, and by more than most people expect.

Metal tiers are the reason two Oscar cards behave differently

Marketplace plans are sold in tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

The tier is a trade between the monthly premium and what you pay when you actually use care. Bronze plans carry the lowest premium and the highest deductible and cost share. Platinum is the reverse. A Bronze member who has not met their deductible and a Platinum member with a flat copay can hand over cards that look nearly identical and owe very different amounts for the same session.

This is the single most common reason someone is surprised by a therapy bill on a marketplace plan. It is entirely predictable and entirely avoidable, and sorting it out is our job.

We verify your specific plan and tell you your number before your first session.

A note on deductibles that catches people in January

If your plan carries a deductible that applies to outpatient therapy, you may pay more per session early in the year and less once the deductible is met.

Members on lower metal tiers often encounter this in January, conclude that therapy has become unaffordable, and stop. It is worth understanding the shape of your own plan year before making that call, and we will walk you through it rather than let a first bill make the decision for you.

Why this matters in Brentwood

Brentwood has more than 62,000 residents, making it the most populous census-designated place on Long Island outside New York City. Outpatient mental health capacity here has never matched that.

Practically, adults here run into two filters at once: practices that are full, and practices that do not take marketplace plans. Some providers accept employer coverage from a carrier while declining that same carrier’s exchange products.

We do not draw that distinction. And because sessions are by video, the other Suffolk County obstacle disappears too: no drive on the LIE at 5pm for a 50-minute appointment.

What care looks like

Adults 18 and older, across Brentwood and the surrounding western Suffolk communities including North Bay Shore, Baywood, Central Islip, Bay Shore, Islip, Hauppauge and Deer Park.

The method is defined up front. An intake with a 0 to 10 baseline rating, then a wider look at your history, then a treatment plan written with you in your own words. Weekly sessions after that, plus a monthly review using standardized measures. If the trend does not move, the plan changes.

For the outpatient concerns we treat, research comparing video-delivered CBT with in-person CBT has generally found comparable outcomes. If your needs exceed weekly outpatient care, we will tell you directly and help you find the right level.

Adult family sessions are available, meaning every participant is 18 or older.

Other plans we take here

UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Optum and Medicare.

What Oscar Health covers here

  • Oscar Health is a New York-based insurer that sells heavily through the New York State of Health marketplace as well as through small-group employer coverage.
  • Because we are in-network, you owe your plan's copay, coinsurance or remaining deductible rather than the full session rate.
  • New York State parity law requires most commercial plans to cover mental health services comparably to medical services. Outpatient therapy is a covered benefit.
  • Marketplace plans are sold in metal tiers. The tier changes your deductible and cost share substantially, so two Oscar members can owe very different amounts.
  • Oscar plans generally let you see an in-network behavioral health provider without a primary care referral. We confirm the rule for your specific product.

What does therapy here actually look like?

The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.

  1. Getting started

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.

  2. Mapping what is behind it

Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.

  3. Writing the plan together

You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

  4. Ongoing

Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.

Therapy here is measured, not guessed

Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.

Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Oscar Health questions

Is MindView in-network with Oscar for Brentwood clients?

Yes. We are in-network with Oscar Health and see Brentwood clients by secure video anywhere in New York State. Our clinicians are licensed in New York, which is what makes that lawful.

I bought my Oscar plan on the state marketplace. Does that change anything?

Not for whether we can see you. It does affect what you pay, because marketplace plans come in metal tiers with quite different deductibles and cost shares. We verify your specific plan rather than quoting a number that may describe a different tier.

What is a metal tier and why does it matter?

Marketplace plans are sold as Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum. Lower tiers have cheaper monthly premiums and higher deductibles and cost shares. A Bronze member and a Platinum member can both hold an Oscar card and owe very different amounts per session, which is why we check yours specifically.

Do you have an office in Brentwood?

No. There is no MindView office in Brentwood and we will not imply one. Brentwood clients are seen by secure video. Our nearest office is in Jamaica, Queens, about 35 miles west.

Do I need a referral from a primary care doctor?

On most Oscar plans you can see an in-network behavioral health provider without one. Some plan designs differ, so we confirm the rule for your specific product when we verify benefits.

What will I pay per session?

Your copay or coinsurance, with any unmet deductible applying first. Because Oscar's marketplace tiers vary so widely, we verify your benefits and tell you the number before you book rather than estimating.
