Why MindView
Most therapy in Troy has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Cigna. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Cigna in Troy, in short
MindView Therapy is in-network with Cigna for Troy clients, seen by secure video anywhere in New York State. You pay your plan's copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee, and we verify your benefits before your first session. We do not have a Troy office, and we are accepting new clients now.
If you searched for a Cigna therapist in Troy, this is the short version. We take Cigna, we are accepting new clients, and you can book online in about 30 seconds. Sessions are by secure video, so there is no commute and no waiting room, and your telehealth benefit applies the same way it would to an office visit.
Does MindView take Cigna in Troy?
Yes. We are in-network with Cigna, and we see Troy clients by secure video anywhere in New York State.
On a Cigna card the behavioral benefit is its own line, and the number that governs your bill is the behavioral health copay printed there, not the medical one. You owe that share and nothing past it.
We should be equally direct about the other half: we do not have an office in Troy. Our nearest office is in Queens, about 155 miles away. Sessions happen online by secure video, full stop. If sitting across from someone in a room is what makes therapy work for you, look local instead.
What should I know about Cigna specifically?
The detail specific to Cigna: therapy does not run on the same network as your medical care. That is why a provider can be in-network for a physical and out-of-network for therapy, and it is why checking behavioral health specifically matters.
In a city with two universities and a large public-sector workforce, that split causes a particular kind of trouble. Student health services and employer benefits portals both tend to answer the question “is this covered” from the medical side of the plan, because that is the part they administer.
How does Cigna cover therapy?
Under New York parity rules Cigna has to cover outpatient therapy on terms comparable to medical care. Coverage is settled; what varies is the behavioral copay your particular product carries.
Most Cigna plans let you self-refer to an in-network behavioral health provider, meaning you do not need a referral letter from a primary care doctor or a campus health center before starting. Cigna writes referral rules per product, so we check the one on your card.
What usually goes wrong with Cigna?
Two more come up often in the Capital Region. If you work for New York State, your coverage may run through a public employee plan whose behavioral health benefit is administered separately again - worth confirming which entity actually holds your therapy benefit before you assume the card tells the whole story. And if you are a student on a university-sponsored plan, that plan often has its own network and its own session limits, which can differ sharply from a parent’s family plan you may also be listed on.
We look at that before you sit down for the first hour, which is the only useful time to look.
What will I pay?
The behavioral copay on a Cigna card varies enough that quoting one blind would be dishonest.
Most Cigna members pay a copay per session. That difference is worth checking, and we check it.
If you are on a high-deductible plan, which is common among younger workers and graduate students, expect to pay the full contracted rate until the deductible is met, and note that the contracted rate is still meaningfully lower than the cash rate. If you carry both a student plan and a parent’s plan, we can check which one leaves you paying less before you commit to either.
We run the check and hand you the number before you are seen. Nothing about the first bill should surprise you.
Who do you help in Troy?
Troy sends us two fairly distinct groups, and they want different things from therapy.
The first is students and recent graduates. RPI and Russell Sage put a large population of high-achieving people in a small city, and the pattern that comes with that is specific: anxiety that was managed for years by structure and grades, arriving at the point where neither works anymore. Engineering and pre-med workloads produce a particular kind of perfectionism, where a B feels like evidence about your future rather than a grade. The transition out of school is its own event, and it tends to hit in the spring of senior year rather than after graduation.
The second is people who work in the Capital Region economy: state government in Albany, health systems, the growing semiconductor and tech employers north of the city. That group brings work stress, commute fatigue, and the particular strain of a two-career household where the schedules do not overlap.
We work with adults 18 and older, and clients come to us from Lansingburgh, South Troy, Sycaway, Watervliet, Wynantskill, and East Greenbush, and from across Rensselaer County.
Why video in Troy?
The honest reason is supply. Rensselaer County has far fewer in-network outpatient therapists than its population needs, and the ones taking new clients often have a wait. Crossing the river to Albany for an appointment is common, and in February on Hoosick Street it is worse than it sounds. Video removes the drive and the parking, which is usually what makes weekly attendance survivable.
For students there is a second, practical advantage. Because our clinicians are licensed in New York, you keep the same therapist through winter and spring break as long as you are physically in the state. Continuity through breaks is a real problem with campus counseling centers, which typically cannot see you once you leave. If you go home to another state for the summer, we cannot see you there - that is a licensing limit, not a policy choice, and we would rather say it now than in May.
What that comes down to is a clinician licensed here, your Cigna behavioral telehealth benefit applied, and no travel attached to the hour.
Does therapy by video actually work?
For anxiety, depression and the rest of what we see, studies putting video-delivered CBT next to the in-person version have generally found comparable results. That is the whole claim, and we would rather state it small and true.
Beyond the research there is your own data. Monthly standardized measures get reviewed with you, so whether this is working is a question with an answer rather than a feeling.
Video outpatient care does not fit every situation. When someone needs a higher level of care than this, we say so early and help find it. In Rensselaer County that referral usually points toward Rensselaer County Mental Health or the psychiatric services at Samaritan Hospital, and we will make the handoff rather than leaving you to start over.
What happens after I book?
Care opens with an intake and a 0 to 10 rating of what you are dealing with. The sessions after that widen into history, health and the pressures around you, at whatever depth you allow, and the written goals include one that is yours rather than clinical.
From there sessions run weekly, with a monthly look at the measures.
What else do you take in Troy?
Alongside Cigna, we are in-network in Troy with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. Carrying two plans between you? We can work out which one costs you less per session.
How do I start?
Book online through our secure client portal. It takes about 30 seconds. Have your Cigna member ID card ready.
We are accepting new clients and respond within one business day, which in a county where in-network waitlists run for weeks is usually the part that matters. Prefer to talk first? Call (646) 493-4007.
What Cigna covers here
- •As an in-network provider we bill Cigna directly. You owe the copay, coinsurance, or unmet deductible your plan sets, and never the balance between our rate and Cigna's.
- •Outpatient therapy is a covered benefit under New York parity law. What varies between Capital Region employers is the size of your cost share, not whether you are covered.
- •New York State employees and university-sponsored student plans often route behavioral health through a separate administrator again. We confirm which entity actually holds your therapy benefit.
- •Your telehealth benefit is what applies to a Troy session, since we see you by video. On most Cigna plans it is set at the same level as an office visit.
How to book with Cigna
- 1
Have your Cigna card and, if you are a student, any university plan card as well. Where two plans exist we check which one costs you less.
- 2
Book online through our secure client portal. It takes about 30 seconds, with no benefits paperwork to complete first.
- 3
Your first session is the intake, by video from your apartment, dorm, or office. If your coverage changes mid-course, you hear it from us before it reaches a bill.
What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Cigna questions
Do you have an office in Troy?
No, and we would rather be blunt about it than have you discover it later. There is no MindView office in Troy or anywhere in the Capital Region. Every Troy session is by video, and our nearest office is Queens, roughly 155 miles south.
I am a student at RPI or Russell Sage. Can I keep the same therapist over break?
Yes, as long as you are physically in New York State during the break. Our clinicians are licensed here, so continuity through winter and spring break is straightforward. If you go home to another state for the summer, we cannot legally see you there, and we will plan that with you in advance rather than cancelling on you in May.
My university health plan and my parents' Cigna plan both cover me. Which do I use?
Bring both cards and we will check them before you book. Student plans often carry their own network and session limits that differ sharply from a family plan, and the cheaper option is not always the one you would guess. The comparison costs you nothing.
What will therapy cost me with Cigna?
You pay your plan's copay or coinsurance, with any unmet deductible applying first. High-deductible plans are common among graduate students and younger state employees, and on those you pay the contracted rate until the deductible is met, which is still well below our cash rate. We verify and quote your number before your first session.
Do you offer couples counseling in Troy with Cigna?
Yes, where your plan covers it. Both partners join by video and can be in two different places, as long as both are physically in New York State at session time. Plans treat couples work inconsistently, so we confirm yours when we verify benefits.
How soon can I be seen?
We are accepting new clients and reply within one business day, which is the main reason people in Rensselaer County come to us rather than waiting out a local waitlist.
