Why MindView
Most therapy in Tonawanda has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Meritain Health. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Meritain Health in Tonawanda, in short
Yes. MindView Therapy is in-network for Meritain Health members and sees City of Tonawanda adults 18 and older by secure video anywhere in New York State. Meritain administers plans that employers fund themselves and rents the Aetna network, so your card names one and the network underneath names another. Because the benefit was designed by an employer, we look up your specific plan and give you the number first.
Only 125 working City of Tonawanda residents are self-employed in their own unincorporated business, 1.7 percent of everyone employed here, against 4.1 percent across Erie County and 5.7 percent statewide. Another 4,881, about two in three, work for a private for-profit employer. Almost every health card in this city is therefore somebody else's design, and on a card like this one that somebody is an employer rather than an insurer.
Your card says Meritain and the network says Aetna
Yes, MindView Therapy is in-network for Meritain Health, and City of Tonawanda adults 18 and older are seen by secure video anywhere in New York State. That does not resolve the confusion your card creates on its own, though. Meritain Health is a third-party administrator owned by Aetna, which means an employer funds and designs the plan while Meritain handles the paperwork, and the provider network printed on the card underneath both names is Aetna’s.
For booking purposes, that split does not change anything on your end. We check your coverage against whichever name is printed where, and it counts as in-network either way. What it does change is who has the final say over your benefit design, which is the employer that set it up rather than an insurer that sold it to you directly.
Nobody shops for a Meritain plan the way they might compare two marketplace policies side by side. It arrives as part of a job, chosen once by an employer’s benefits team on behalf of everyone enrolled, and the individual member only ever sees the result: a card with two names on it and a set of numbers attached to a plan they did not personally pick. That is worth saying plainly, because it is the reason a Meritain card reads as unfamiliar even to people who have carried it for years.
Almost nobody here works for themselves
Only 125 employed City of Tonawanda residents are self-employed in their own unincorporated business, 1.7 percent of the 7,231 people counted as employed here. Erie County runs at 4.1 percent and New York State at 5.7 percent, so the City of Tonawanda rate sits at roughly a third of the statewide figure. The margin of error on that count is plus or minus 74, wide enough that the exact number moves, though the direction, that self-employment here is unusually rare, holds.
The flip side of that figure is who does the hiring instead. 4,881 employed residents, 67.5 percent, work for a private for-profit employer, close to the county’s 66.6 percent and the state’s 65.8 percent. Put the two together and almost every health plan circulating in this city was designed by somebody else, an employer choosing a benefit structure on someone’s behalf rather than an individual shopping a plan directly. A Meritain card is exactly what that arrangement looks like on paper.
None of this is a claim about how many City of Tonawanda residents specifically carry a Meritain card, which is not a figure we can verify and will not guess at. What it explains is why a card like this one raises exactly the question above, whose plan is this really, in the first place.
That arrangement matters past the paperwork, too. When a person’s coverage, income and daily hours all come from the same employer, a job change is not one change but four at once, and it is common for someone to arrive at a first session already carrying that stacked up, even when a career decision is not the stated reason they called. Knowing that early lets a course of therapy get planned to survive a change of card rather than quietly end with one.
Why two people with the same card owe different amounts
A copay is a flat cost you pay per session, set by the plan. Coinsurance is a percentage of the session cost you owe after your deductible is met. A deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket before the plan starts covering its share. Two Meritain cards from two different employers can set all three differently, because a self-funded plan is a document the employer wrote rather than a shelf product every member bought the same way.
New York State limits how high a mental health copay can be set relative to a primary care copay on plans the state regulates directly. That protection is real, and it is also the kind of rule that does not automatically reach a plan an employer funds itself, which describes most Meritain arrangements. Whether the cap applies to your specific plan is one of the things we check rather than assume going in.
Either way, you pay your plan’s copay, coinsurance, or remaining deductible in place of the full session fee, and you are never billed for the difference on top of it.
A plan bought directly on the individual market has one design, set once, that every member of that plan shares. A self-funded employer plan does not work that way. One City of Tonawanda household can carry a Meritain card with a modest deductible and a flat copay for therapy, while another household’s card, issued by a different employer, carries a higher deductible and a coinsurance percentage instead. Both are legitimately Meritain. Neither number applies to the other person’s plan, which is exactly why we look up yours specifically rather than describing a typical one.
Which document actually answers the question
Your Meritain member ID card carries a group number and a network name, and that is close to the limit of what it can tell you about cost. The document that actually sets your copay, your coinsurance percentage and your deductible is your employer’s plan summary, the paperwork your benefits office issued when you enrolled, not anything printed on the card itself.
We read that plan summary, or verify the benefit directly with Meritain, before your first session is scheduled. That step exists because guessing from the card alone gets the wrong number often enough that it is not worth doing. It also means the answer we give you is specific to your plan rather than a range that might not apply to you at all.
If you have never seen your own plan summary, that is common and not a problem. Most people know the name on their card and little else, which is exactly the gap this step closes before you owe anything for a session.
You do not need to track the document down yourself. A member ID number and a date of birth are usually enough for us to verify the benefit directly with Meritain, which is faster for most people than finding a benefits packet from an onboarding folder. Either route lands on the same answer: a specific number for your specific plan, checked before your first appointment rather than estimated from the card alone.
Getting the number before you book
Booking starts with the card in hand. Have your Meritain Health member ID ready, and note the network name printed underneath it, since we ask about both. From there it takes about two minutes to book through our booking page, and no phone call is required to start.
Once you book, we verify your specific plan and tell you the per-session cost, deductible included, before anything is confirmed. Your first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against.
City of Tonawanda adults come to that first session for reasons that range from ongoing anxiety and depression to burnout that has built up at work, or a life transition that reshuffled a routine someone had counted on. Some arrive already knowing what they want to work on, and others arrive only knowing that the current pace is not sustainable, and both are reasonable starting points.
There is no City of Tonawanda office, and every session happens online by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, from anywhere in the state. Booking is open to adults 18 and older, and once your first appointment is set, you choose a recurring weekly time that fits around whatever schedule your employer’s plan happens to sit beside.
What Meritain Health covers here
- •Meritain Health administers plans that employers fund themselves, and the provider network printed on your card is Aetna's. For booking purposes we are in-network with you either way.
- •Because your employer designed the plan rather than buying it off a shelf, cost sharing can differ widely between two people holding the same Meritain card.
- •The document that actually answers a cost question is your employer's own plan summary. We read it, or verify your specific benefit directly, before you owe anything.
- •New York limits how high a therapy copay can be set relative to a primary care copay on plans the state regulates directly, though that cap does not automatically reach a plan an employer funds itself, which describes most Meritain arrangements.
- •You pay your plan's copay, coinsurance, or remaining deductible in place of the full session fee, and you are never billed for the difference.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Meritain Health questions
My card says Meritain Health but the network printed underneath says Aetna. Which one am I actually in-network with?
Both, and neither name is a mistake. Meritain Health administers the plan your employer funds, while the provider network underneath belongs to Aetna. For booking purposes we treat you as in-network either way, and we confirm the specific benefit tied to your card before your first session rather than assuming from the name alone.
Why does a coworker at the same company pay a different amount than I do for the exact same Meritain card?
Because a self-funded plan is a document your employer wrote, not a product bought off a shelf. Two coworkers can hold the same Meritain card and still land on a different copay, a different coinsurance percentage, or a different deductible, depending on which coverage tier or option each of you actually selected.
What happens to my therapy if I change jobs while I'm being seen for a Meritain plan in Tonawanda?
Your card and your benefit can both change, but the work does not have to stop. We re-verify your new plan the same way we verified the Meritain one, and a course of therapy can be planned around that possibility from the start. City of Tonawanda sessions continue by secure video regardless of which employer's card you are carrying.
I live in the City of Tonawanda, not the Town of Tonawanda. Does that change whether MindView takes my Meritain Health plan?
No. The Meritain figures used here are specific to the City of Tonawanda, a separate municipality from the Town of Tonawanda nearby. Licensure in New York works statewide rather than by municipality, so the practical answer for booking a Meritain-covered session is the same either way.
Does MindView have an office in Tonawanda?
No. Every City of Tonawanda session happens by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, from anywhere in the state. Offices exist elsewhere in the practice, but they are never a place a client is seen in person, and no office is offered as a reason to visit instead of booking online.
