Why MindView
Most therapy in Long Beach has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Meritain Health. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Meritain Health in Long Beach, in short
MindView Therapy is in network for Meritain Health members and sees Long Beach adults by secure video across New York State. Meritain administers plans that employers fund themselves, and it rents the Aetna network, so your card says Meritain while the network printed underneath says Aetna. Both are correct and neither is a mistake. What you owe per session was written by your employer, and we look it up before anything is booked.
Nassau County has 48,718 business establishments and 32,047 of them employ fewer than five people, while 32 employ a thousand or more. Self-funding a health plan is a decision that only makes sense at scale, and the plans that come out of it were each written for one workforce. That is why two Long Beach households can hold the same Meritain card and get two different answers when they ask what a session costs.
Same card, different bill, and no mistake
Two Long Beach households can hold the exact same Meritain card and be quoted two entirely different amounts for the same kind of session. Neither number is wrong. Meritain administers a plan that a specific employer designed and funds directly, so the card tells you which administrator to call, not what the plan actually costs.
We are in network for Meritain Health and see Long Beach adults by secure video across New York State. The question worth asking before your first session is not “what does Meritain cost,” since that question has no single answer, but “what does my specific employer’s plan cost,” which is exactly what we verify before quoting anything.
This distinction matters more with Meritain than with most other payers on this site, precisely because the administrator’s name and the plan’s actual terms are two entirely separate things. A member calling around asking what “Meritain covers” is asking a question that, taken literally, has no answer at all.
Meritain is a third party administrator owned by Aetna, which is why the network printed beneath the Meritain name on your card is Aetna’s rather than a network of its own. That single fact explains both names on the card without saying anything about your specific cost sharing, which lives entirely in the employer’s plan document rather than in Meritain’s or Aetna’s corporate structure.
A county of very small employers and a few very large ones
Nassau County has 48,718 business establishments. Of those, 32,047 employ fewer than five people, and only 32 employ a thousand or more. That is an economy overwhelmingly made up of very small employers with a thin tail of very large ones, and it is the shape that explains why self-funded coverage varies so much.
Self-funding a health plan means the employer carries the financial risk of paying claims directly rather than buying an insurance policy, which is a decision that scales with size. A large employer can absorb that risk. A five-person office generally cannot. That size distribution is the honest, complete explanation for why a Meritain card in Nassau County is not one product with one set of terms.
None of these establishment counts says which Nassau County employers actually chose Meritain, and that figure is not one we can obtain or estimate. What the size distribution shows is why self-funded coverage varies as much as it does, since each plan was written for one specific workforce rather than sold off a shelf to whoever wanted it.
The 32 establishments with a thousand or more employees represent well under one percent of Nassau County’s total business base. That contrast is the clearest illustration of why self-funded coverage is the exception among Nassau County employers generally, even though it is common enough among the ones that do choose it to sustain a widely used administrator like Meritain across the county.
Most of Nassau County’s 48,718 establishments are small enough that a health plan decision sits with one or two people rather than a benefits department, and that same small scale shapes what a workday actually feels like: a desk close enough to the owner’s office that a raised voice on a bad call carries through the wall, a coworker who notices immediately when someone leaves early two Tuesdays in a row, and a lunch break spent eating at the same four-person table every day rather than disappearing into a cafeteria. Fitting a weekly therapy appointment into that kind of workplace often means protecting the fact of it as much as the time itself, and a first intake held by video from a parked car or a spare room at home lets someone keep a weekly appointment going without a colleague noticing, in an office where everybody already knows everybody’s business.
Working at a small Nassau County business does not itself say anything about why someone would start therapy, and a five-person office is not evidence of anything beyond its own size. What it does mean in practice is that privacy is often the more immediate hurdle to work around before a first session ever gets booked.
What self-funded changes about your cost
A self-funded plan means the employer itself carries the financial risk of paying claims, rather than purchasing an insurance policy from a carrier. Meritain’s role is to administer that plan and rent the Aetna network so members have somewhere to use their coverage. The employer, not Meritain and not Aetna, decided the plan’s actual terms.
That is why two people can hold the exact same Meritain card, through two different employers, and owe genuinely different amounts for the same kind of visit. The network is shared. The plan design underneath it is not, and the administrator has no authority to change what an individual employer chose to offer.
What each cost-sharing term actually means
A copay is a flat amount paid per visit. A deductible is what you pay out of pocket before the plan starts sharing costs. Coinsurance is a percentage of the visit’s cost owed after a deductible is met.
Some self-funded plans use only a copay. Others run a deductible first and shift to coinsurance. A smaller number combine the two.
None of these three shapes is more common than another across self-funded plans generally, and knowing which one your employer chose is not something you can determine from the card itself. We check your specific plan and tell you the actual figure before you book, including where you stand on a deductible if your plan uses one.
A deductible on a self-funded plan resets on the employer’s own plan year, which is not always January 1. If you have already met your deductible through other medical costs earlier in that plan year, coinsurance alone may apply from your first session forward, without an additional deductible cost stacked on top. We confirm where you stand on that clock as part of the same check.
The parity rule and the gap a self-funded plan can sit in
New York State caps a therapy copay at whatever a plan charges for a primary care visit, but that cap applies to New York regulated commercial plans. Because a Meritain plan is by definition self-funded, it commonly sits outside state insurance law rather than inside it, more consistently than most other payers we take.
We do not lead with the state cap as a promise on a Meritain page, because doing so would be wrong more often than it would be right. Some self-funded employers voluntarily design their plans to match or exceed New York’s requirements anyway, particularly larger employers competing for talent on the strength of their benefits, but nothing compels it. We check what your specific plan actually provides before your first session, and there is no way to tell from the card whether your plan is one of the voluntary ones or not.
Who reaches us through a Meritain plan
Adults 18 and older across Long Beach reach Meritain through whichever employer chose to self-fund coverage on the Aetna network, from a small professional office to a larger local employer. People come in for anxiety, depression, burnout, the pressures covered by work-related counseling, and building practical coping skills, along with general therapy for anyone whose reason does not fit neatly into one category.
MindView has no office in Long Beach, and every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York. See the Long Beach location page for the full list of plans covered here, part of our statewide New York coverage. You do not need a diagnosis to book, and a rough sense that something has gotten harder to manage is reasonable enough reason to check what your specific plan covers.
The questions we put to your plan first
Have your Meritain member ID card ready, and note the network name printed underneath it. Booking is online and takes about 30 seconds. We verify the benefit directly, deductible included, and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled, so nothing about your bill is a surprise after the fact.
Spouses and adult dependents covered under the same employer plan are welcome too, and each person’s coverage is verified individually rather than assumed from a shared plan number.
A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. From there you set a recurring weekly time that fits your schedule, held entirely by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, with your specific cost already confirmed rather than assumed from a card two people might share the exact same words for.
What Meritain Health covers here
- •Meritain administers self-funded employer plans and rents the Aetna network, so the card says Meritain and the network printed underneath is Aetna's. Both names are correct.
- •Because a self-funded plan is designed by an employer, two people holding the same Meritain card can land on very different cost sharing.
- •You pay your plan's copay, coinsurance or remaining deductible instead of the full session fee. You are never billed the difference.
- •New York regulated plans cap a therapy copay at the primary care copay, but self-funded employer plans commonly sit outside that state rule. This matters more on a Meritain card than on most others.
- •We verify the benefit and give the per-session number before anything is booked.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Meritain Health questions
My neighbour has the same Meritain card and pays less. How?
A different employer wrote a different self-funded plan design, even though both cards carry the same Meritain name and run on the same Aetna network. Meritain administers the plan; it does not set the benefit level. That decision belongs entirely to the specific employer, which is exactly why we verify your card rather than assuming your neighbour's number applies to you as well.
My card says Meritain and Aetna. Which network are you in?
Aetna's, which is the network Meritain rents rather than owns. For booking purposes we are in network either way, since Meritain simply administers a plan built on that existing Aetna network. Bring the card exactly as printed and we confirm the details against your specific employer's plan document during the benefits check.
Does the New York therapy copay cap protect me?
It may not. On a New York regulated plan a therapy copay cannot exceed the primary care copay, but a self-funded employer plan, which is what sits behind most Meritain cards, can sit entirely outside that rule. We check whether your specific plan is regulated or self-funded and confirm what actually applies rather than promising the cap covers you.
I work for a very small business in Long Beach. Would we be self-funded?
We will not guess. What we can say honestly is that 89.9 percent of Nassau County establishments employ fewer than twenty people, and self-funding is generally a decision only larger employers are positioned to make. None of that tells us what your specific employer actually chose, so we verify your card directly rather than inferring from company size.
Is there a MindView office in Long Beach?
No. Every Long Beach session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, from anywhere in the state. MindView's offices exist as offices, never as a place a client is seen in person, and none of them is in Long Beach.
