What is Meritain, and is it Aetna?
Meritain Health is an Aetna and CVS Health company, and many Meritain plans run on an Aetna provider network. That is why a Meritain card often carries an Aetna logo and why people assume the two are the same thing.
They are related, but Meritain is a third-party administrator, not a traditional insurer. It administers self-funded employer plans, which means your employer is the one actually paying claims and designing the benefits. Meritain processes those claims and provides the network.
The practical consequence is worth saying plainly. Your employer, not Meritain, decides your copay, your deductible, your coinsurance, and whether a referral is required. Two people can both hand us a Meritain card and have coverage that behaves nothing alike, because they work for different companies. This is the single most misunderstood thing about Meritain.
Does MindView take Meritain?
Yes. MindView Therapy is in-network with Meritain Health in New York, at our Queens and Buffalo offices and by telehealth anywhere in the state.
You pay your plan’s cost share, not the full session fee, and you are not billed the difference between our rate and what the plan pays.
What will I pay?
That depends on your employer’s plan document, and we will not guess at it.
Most people pay a copay per session. Some plans use coinsurance, a percentage of the negotiated rate. Some require you to meet a deductible first. With a self-funded plan, all three of those are employer choices rather than standard policy terms.
We verify your specific benefits before your first session and tell you what you will owe. That verification matters more with Meritain than with almost any other card, precisely because there is no standard plan to fall back on.
Do I need a referral, and is telehealth covered?
Usually no referral. Most Meritain-administered plans let you see an in-network behavioral health provider without one. Some employer plans build a referral requirement in.
Telehealth is covered on most Meritain-administered plans, but because the plan is employer-designed, we confirm it rather than assume it. Both answers sit in your employer’s plan design, so we check them directly when we verify your benefits and tell you before anything becomes a denied claim.

Meritain Health questions
Does MindView Therapy take Meritain Health?
Yes. We are in-network with Meritain Health in New York, at our Queens and Buffalo offices, and for telehealth across New York State.
Is Meritain the same as Aetna?
Meritain Health is an Aetna and CVS Health company, and many Meritain plans use an Aetna provider network. But Meritain administers self-funded employer plans, so the benefits themselves are designed by your employer, not by Aetna.
Why does my coworker's Meritain plan cover something mine does not?
Because Meritain administers self-funded plans. Each employer decides the copays, deductibles, and covered services. Two Meritain cards from two employers can behave very differently, which is why we verify each one individually.
What will therapy cost me with Meritain?
You pay your plan's copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee, and any unmet deductible may apply first. Because your employer sets the plan, we verify your specific benefits and tell you the number before your first session.
Do I need a referral, and is telehealth covered?
Most Meritain-administered plans do not require a referral for in-network outpatient therapy, and most cover telehealth. Both are employer-designed choices rather than company-wide rules, so we confirm them rather than assume.
