Why MindView
Most therapy in Hempstead has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Meritain Health. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Meritain Health in Hempstead, in short
Yes. MindView Therapy is in-network for Meritain Health members and sees Hempstead adults 18 and older by secure video anywhere in New York State. Meritain administers plans that employers fund themselves and rents the Aetna network, so your card reads Meritain while the provider network underneath is Aetna's. Because the employer designs the benefit, cost sharing varies widely. We look yours up before you book.
Retail employs 3,135 Village of Hempstead residents and restaurants and hotels another 1,775, close to one in six of everyone working here and above the Nassau County share in both categories. Large multi-site employers in those sectors commonly fund their own health plans and hire a third party to run them, which is the most ordinary way a Meritain card ends up in a Hempstead wallet.
Meritain Health in Hempstead: yes
Yes. We are in-network for Meritain Health members, and every Hempstead session runs by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York. There is no in-person option offered here, and none is needed for this to count as ordinary in-network care.
Meritain administers plans that an employer funds itself and rents the Aetna network to deliver care, which is why the name on the front of the card and the network underneath it can read differently. Both pieces are correct at the same time.
Because the employer designs the specific benefit, cost sharing on a Meritain plan varies more than it does on a plan sold directly by an insurer. That variation is the reason we check your particular plan rather than describe a typical one.
Retail and food service jobs, and the plans behind them
Retail trade employs 3,135 Village of Hempstead residents, 11.1 percent of everyone working here, against 8.7 percent across Nassau County. Accommodation and food services employs another 1,775 residents, 6.3 percent, against 4.0 percent county-wide. Together those two sectors account for close to one in six working village residents, a larger share than the county carries in either category.
Large multi-site retailers and restaurant or hotel groups commonly fund their own health plan rather than buying one from an insurer directly, then hire a third-party administrator to handle claims and member services. That arrangement is exactly what a Meritain card describes: an employer-funded plan, administered by Meritain, running on a network it rents rather than owns.
None of this says anything about a specific company or a specific worker’s coverage. It describes a pattern common to national and regional employers in these two sectors, and it is the ordinary explanation for how a Meritain card reaches a wallet at all. Nothing in the employment figures tells us how many village residents actually carry one, and we will not guess at that.
Shift patterns in these two sectors also shape when an appointment realistically fits. Retail schedules built around store hours and food service schedules built around meal rushes rarely leave a fixed weekday daytime slot open every week. A recurring evening or weekend video appointment tends to survive that kind of schedule better than one that assumes a nine-to-five week.
That kind of schedule is also what most often gets carried into a first session without anyone planning to name it directly: being on your feet through a full shift, a manager changing next week’s hours with two days’ notice, or the strain of dealing with customers all day and having nothing left for anyone at home by evening. Naming a standing weekly time that a schedule cannot quietly erase is often the first real decision, well before the content of any particular session.
None of this describes a specific worker’s coverage or state of mind. It only describes what retail and food-service scheduling commonly does to a week, which an intake can plan around rather than a judgment about anyone’s job.
Why your card says Meritain and your network says Aetna
Meritain is the name printed on the front of your card. It is the administrator of your employer’s plan, not an insurer you could shop for on your own, which is why the card arrives with a job rather than from a marketplace.
To give members access to a network of providers, Meritain rents the Aetna network rather than building its own. That is why a Meritain card usually shows the Aetna network name or logo somewhere underneath the Meritain branding, and it is why an Aetna-network therapist, MindView included, is in-network for a Meritain member.
For booking purposes, the practical answer is simple: bring the card as printed, with both names on it, and we verify the specific employer plan behind it rather than asking you to sort out which name matters more.
This is also the most common source of confusion members raise before their first call, more than the cost itself. Once it is explained, most people find the rest of the process straightforward: the card works the way any in-network card does, it just has two names on it instead of one.
Why your coworker’s copay is not your copay
Because a self-funded plan is designed entirely by the employer, there is no single Meritain copay that holds true across every member. One employer might set a flat copay for outpatient mental health. Another might build in a deductible before coinsurance starts, or add an employee assistance benefit ahead of regular cost sharing.
Two Hempstead households can hold visually identical Meritain cards through two different retail chains or restaurant groups and land on very different per-session costs, simply because the two employers wrote different plans. Neither card is a mistake, and neither is more standard than the other.
On New York-regulated plans, your therapy copay cannot be higher than your primary-care copay. That protection does not apply to coverage an employer funds itself, which describes most Meritain plans by definition, so we check whether your specific plan sits under the state rule rather than assuming it does.
A member ID number and a date of birth are usually enough for us to pull the specific benefit design behind your card. What comes back is a real dollar figure tied to your employer’s plan, not a range meant to cover every Meritain member at once.
The three words involved are worth keeping apart. A copay is a flat amount that does not move with what a session is billed at. Coinsurance is a percentage of the allowed amount, so the dollar figure moves with the bill.
A deductible is the yearly running total that has to clear before either one applies at its normal rate, and it resets to zero at the start of each plan year. An unmet deductible at session one means paying more up front than a coworker who already cleared theirs, which is why we read where yours stands before the first appointment is confirmed.
The people who book on a Meritain card
Adults 18 and older across the Village of Hempstead book with MindView, commonly for burnout, anxiety, depression, or the accumulated strain of retail and hospitality shift work. No diagnosis is required to start.
MindView has no office in Hempstead. Every session is by secure video with a New York licensed clinician, from wherever you are inside the state that week. Our nearest office sits in Jamaica, Queens, and it operates as an office rather than a place Hempstead clients are seen in person.
A private room and a working camera for the hour cover what a session actually needs. An intake sets the initial plan, and a recurring weekly time follows, adjusted as a retail or restaurant schedule genuinely shifts week to week.
Couples are also seen under a Meritain-administered plan, provided both partners are physically located in New York State during the session. A partner working out of state that week is a real limit on that, and it is worth mentioning at booking rather than discovering the day of an appointment.
Booking, and what we check first
Book through the booking page. It takes about 30 seconds, and having your Meritain card in front of you, both names visible, speeds up the next step.
We verify the specific employer plan behind your card, including the copay, coinsurance, or deductible your employer set, and give you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled on the calendar. If an employee assistance benefit exists ahead of regular cost sharing, we identify that too.
The first session is an intake: what brought you in, the relevant background, and what you want different, with a baseline reading using standardized measures that later weekly sessions are checked against. A recurring weekly time is set before that first call ends, so the second session is already booked rather than something to arrange separately.
What Meritain Health covers here
- •You pay your plan's copay or coinsurance instead of the full session fee. You are never billed the difference.
- •Meritain administers a plan the employer funds itself and rents the Aetna network, so the provider network on your card is Aetna's.
- •Because the benefit is set by an employer rather than sold as a retail plan, cost sharing varies widely between two people holding the same card.
- •The card usually shows the Aetna network logo underneath the Meritain name, which is how a member knows an Aetna-network therapist takes it.
- •New York State law requires most commercial plans to cover outpatient mental health care on the same footing as medical care.
How to book with Meritain Health
- 1
Have your Meritain member ID card ready, and note the network name printed on it.
- 2
Book through the booking page. It takes about 30 seconds.
- 3
We verify the benefit and tell you the per-session cost, deductible included, before anything is scheduled.

Your first session is an intake, by secure video from anywhere in New York State.
What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Meritain Health questions
My card says Meritain but the network says Aetna. Which one am I?
Both, and it is not a mistake. Meritain administers the plan your employer funds, and the provider network printed underneath is Aetna's. For booking purposes the practical answer is that we are in-network for you either way. Bring the card as printed and we verify against what your specific employer plan sets.
Why does my coworker pay a different amount than I do?
Because a self-funded plan is designed by the employer, not bought off a shelf. Two Hempstead households can hold the same-looking card through different employers and land on a different copay, a different coinsurance percentage, or a very different deductible. That is why we look yours up rather than quoting an average.
Does the New York rule capping my therapy copay apply to my plan?
Maybe not. On New York-regulated plans your therapy copay cannot be higher than your primary-care copay, but coverage an employer funds itself can sit outside that state rule entirely. We check whether your specific plan is subject to it rather than promising the cap applies before we have looked.
I work retail in Hempstead. Is this the kind of plan I would have?
Retail employs 3,135 Village of Hempstead residents and food service another 1,775, both running above the Nassau County share. Large chains in those sectors commonly fund their own plan and hire an administrator to run it, which is exactly the arrangement a Meritain card describes. The card tells you, and we read it during the benefits check.
Does MindView have a Hempstead office?
No. Every Hempstead session is by secure video with a New York licensed clinician, from anywhere inside the state. The nearest MindView office is in Jamaica, Queens, and it is an office rather than a place clients are seen in person.
