Meritain Health in New Rochelle, in short
Yes. MindView Therapy is in-network for Meritain Health members and sees New Rochelle adults 18 and older by secure video anywhere in New York State. Meritain is a third-party administrator owned by Aetna that runs plans employers fund themselves, using the Aetna provider network. So the name on your card and the network underneath it are different names on purpose, and your benefits were set by your employer rather than sold to you.
A Meritain card is the clearest example of a thing most people never think about: the company on the card is not always the company carrying the risk. Meritain administers plans that employers fund themselves, and it rents the Aetna network to do it. In New Rochelle, 5,628 working residents are employed by private not-for-profit organizations, 13.4 percent of everyone with a job, against 12.2 percent countywide.
The company on the card is not the company paying
Yes. MindView Therapy is in-network for Meritain Health members, and New Rochelle adults 18 and older are seen by secure video anywhere in New York State. Saying we are “in-network for Meritain” is accurate, but it skips a step worth spelling out before you book. Meritain is not an insurer you chose or a plan you shopped for. It is the company an employer hires to administer a health plan the employer itself funds.
That distinction matters at the point of care because of what is printed on your card. The logo reads Meritain. The provider network underneath it, the list of therapists you can actually see, reads Aetna. Two different names on one piece of plastic, describing one membership.
Neither name is wrong. Meritain runs the plan day to day, and it rents the Aetna network rather than building its own. For booking purposes, what that means for you is simple: we check your coverage against whichever name your card actually shows, and confirm you are covered before anything else happens.
Two questions actually drive someone here: whether MindView takes this specific card, and what a session will cost once it does. The first answer is a flat yes. The second depends entirely on the plan your employer built, which is why the mechanism comes first below and the cost variables come second, rather than one number that would only be right for some readers.
What a third-party administrator actually does
A third-party administrator, or TPA, does not sell insurance and does not carry the financial risk of your claims. An employer that self-funds its health plan sets aside its own money to pay claims and hires a company like Meritain to process them, apply the plan’s rules, and issue the cards. The employer is the one actually paying.
Because Meritain does not own a national network of therapists, it leases access to one that already exists, which for a Meritain-administered plan is Aetna’s. That is the entire explanation for the two names on your card. It is not a printing error and not a downgrade from one insurer to another. It is one plan, administered by one company, running on a network built by a different one.
What this means practically is that you owe a copay, a coinsurance percentage, or the remainder of a deductible, exactly as you would on most other employer plans, but never the difference between what a therapist charges and what the plan allows. What each of those terms actually costs you is the part that changes person to person, which the next two sections walk through.
An employer that self-funds is different from an employer that simply buys a group policy from an insurance company. A purchased policy shifts the financial risk to the insurer in exchange for a premium. A self-funded plan keeps that risk with the employer, who pays claims directly and uses Meritain only to run the paperwork and set up network access. Both arrangements can look identical from the member side, an ID card and a network name, which is exactly why the difference goes unnoticed until a claim is unusually large or a benefit design looks unfamiliar.
13.4 percent, and the limit of what it proves
New Rochelle has a slightly larger private not-for-profit workforce than its neighbors. Of the city’s 41,980 employed civilian residents 16 and older, 5,628 work for private not-for-profit organizations, 13.4 percent of everyone with a job. That compares with 12.2 percent across Westchester County and 11.9 percent statewide.
The gap is real, and it is modest, roughly a point and a half above the county and the state. It is a genuine employer-mix fact worth having on a page about a payer whose entire business is administering someone else’s plan, because self-funding an employer health plan is more common among larger organizations, not-for-profits included, than among small employers buying an off-the-shelf policy.
That is also where the usefulness of the number ends. It is not a count of Meritain cards, and it is not evidence that New Rochelle’s not-for-profit employers specifically use Meritain to administer their plans. No figure like that exists publicly, and we are not going to estimate one. What the employment share actually tells you is that coverage here often arrives through an organization rather than a product bought individually. It does not tell you which organization, or which administrator any one of them picked.
Not-for-profit work in New Rochelle tends to come with steady benefits and a fixed schedule, which changes what actually gets in the way of a first session. It is rarely the cost, since a Meritain card already means the insurance question is handled. It is more often finding an hour that does not require telling their employer why, or keeping a weekly appointment private from colleagues in a small office where everyone notices who steps away and when. A clinician working with someone on a not-for-profit staff hears this shape of scheduling problem: stable coverage sitting next to very little room to move during the day.
None of this says how many not-for-profit employees in New Rochelle specifically hold a Meritain card, and the 13.4 percent figure was never built to answer that. What it shows is that steady, structured employment is a normal part of the city’s job mix, not evidence of what any one person on that kind of staff is dealing with.
These figures come from the Census Bureau’s 2020-2024 American Community Survey, a five-year average rather than a single year’s count. That is the standard way the Bureau reports data for a city New Rochelle’s size, because averaging five years of responses smooths out swings that a smaller one-year survey would show. The shares above reflect that averaging, not a single snapshot week.
Why two Meritain cards can owe two different amounts
Because a self-funded plan is designed by the employer, not bought off a shelf, two New Rochelle residents holding a Meritain card through different employers can land on different numbers for the same visit. One plan might set a flat copay per session. Another might run coinsurance, a fixed percentage of the allowed cost, until a deductible is met. A third might combine both, on a deductible that resets with the employer’s plan year rather than on January 1.
A copay is a flat amount you pay per visit. Coinsurance is a percentage of the allowed cost you owe once any deductible has been satisfied. A deductible is what you pay out of pocket before the plan starts sharing costs at all. All three are set by the plan design your employer chose, not by Meritain and not by us.
On New York-regulated plans your therapy copay cannot be higher than your primary-care copay, a real state protection worth knowing about. It does not reach every plan a TPA administers, though. A plan an employer funds itself, or buys outside New York, can fall outside that protection entirely, and a meaningful share of what Meritain administers is built exactly that way. We do not assume the rule applies to you. We check.
A deductible resets once a year, on whatever date the employer’s plan year begins, which is not always January 1 the way a marketplace plan’s usually is. If you have already met it through other medical costs earlier in that plan year, only the coinsurance percentage may apply from that point forward, with no additional deductible amount stacked on top. Most plans also cap what you pay in a year with an out-of-pocket maximum, after which the plan covers the rest. We confirm where you stand on both before your first session, rather than asking you to track it yourself.
The check we run before you are scheduled
Adults across New Rochelle come to us for anxiety, burnout, and the exhaustion of caregiver burnout, among other reasons, and a Meritain card is one of several ways coverage for that care shows up on an intake form. MindView has no office in New Rochelle. Every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, and the New Rochelle location page lists every plan we take here as part of our statewide New York coverage.
Booking starts with the card, not a call to your employer. Have your Meritain member ID ready, including the network name printed under the logo, and book online; it takes about 30 seconds. We verify your specific plan and tell you the per-session cost, deductible included, before anything is scheduled, so the amount is never a surprise once you are already in a session.
A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, the history that matters to it, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. You do not need a diagnosis to book, and you do not need anything from your employer beyond the card already in your wallet.
Because your therapist is licensed in New York, you need to be physically in New York State during each session, wherever in the state that is. That is the one geographic rule that applies regardless of what your card says or which employer funds your plan.
What Meritain Health covers here
- •You pay your plan's copay, coinsurance, or remaining deductible instead of the full session fee. You are never billed the difference.
- •Meritain administers plans an employer funds itself and rents the Aetna network to run them, so the provider network on your card is Aetna's.
- •Cost sharing is set by the employer that funds the plan, so it varies between two people holding the same Meritain card.
- •New York State requires most state-regulated commercial plans to set a therapy copay no higher than a primary-care copay. The rule does not reach a plan an employer funds itself or buys outside New York.
- •We verify your specific plan and confirm the per-session cost before your first appointment.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Meritain Health questions
My card says Meritain but the network says Aetna. Which one am I?
Both, and it is not a mistake. Meritain administers the plan your employer funds, and the provider network printed underneath it is Aetna's. For booking purposes we are in-network for you either way, so bring the card exactly as printed, network name included, and we verify against what your specific employer plan actually sets before your first session.
Can I sign up for Meritain myself?
No. Meritain is not a plan sold to individuals, and there is no application you can fill out on your own to get it. It administers plans that an employer funds and chooses to offer its own workforce. If you do not have Meritain coverage through a job, you do not have it, and that is worth knowing before you spend time looking for a way to enroll.
Why does my colleague at another New Rochelle employer pay a different amount?
Because a self-funded plan is designed by the employer that funds it, not bought off a shelf like a retail policy. Two New Rochelle residents can hold a Meritain card through different employers and land on a different copay, a different coinsurance percentage, or a very different deductible. That is exactly why we look up your specific plan rather than quoting an average.
Does the New York therapy copay rule cover a self-funded plan?
Often not, and it is worth being direct about that. On New York-regulated plans your therapy copay cannot be higher than your primary-care copay, but that rule does not reach coverage an employer funds itself or buys outside New York, and a meaningful share of what Meritain administers is built exactly that way. We check whether it applies to your specific plan before you book, rather than assuming either way.
Do you need anything from my employer before I book?
No. We need your Meritain card as printed, including the network name under the logo, and nothing else. We run the benefits check ourselves and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled, so there is no form to request from HR and no call for you to make first.
