Why MindView

Most therapy in Long Beach has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Plenty of practices take Aetna. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Aetna in Long Beach, in short

MindView Therapy is in network with Aetna and sees Long Beach adults by secure video across New York State. Aetna sells no individual plan in New York, so every Aetna card here arrived through a job, a spouse's job or a parent's job. Your cost sharing was set by an employer, not by Aetna, and two people holding the same card can owe different amounts. We read your plan and give you the per-session number before anything is booked.

Public administration accounts for 1,126 of the 20,045 employed people living in Long Beach, or 5.6 percent, against 4.8 percent in Nassau County and 4.8 percent statewide. Government employers do not shop for plans the way a small business does. Their benefits are set in agreements that run for years at a time, which is one more reason a page cannot honestly quote you a number and has to look yours up instead.

No Aetna plan is for sale in New York

There is no version of Aetna coverage a New York resident can shop for and buy directly. Not on the state marketplace, not through a broker, not any way at all. Every Aetna card in this state came from somewhere else: a job, a spouse’s job, or a parent’s plan.

We are in network with Aetna and see Long Beach adults by secure video across New York State, but the number that actually governs your bill was never Aetna’s to set. It came from whichever employer chose your plan, and that is exactly what we read before quoting anything.

Public sector work in Long Beach

Public administration employs 1,126 of the 20,045 employed people living in Long Beach, 5.6 percent, above both Nassau County’s 4.8 percent and New York State’s 4.8 percent in the same category. Government jobs make up a genuinely larger share of this city’s working population than the surrounding averages.

That is worth knowing because government employers approach benefits differently than most private companies do. Where a small business might revisit its health plan choices most years, a public employer’s benefits are frequently locked into a multi-year agreement negotiated between the employer and its workforce, revisited on its own schedule rather than annually.

None of that employment figure says which Long Beach public employees specifically carry an Aetna card, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What it does establish is that a meaningful share of this city’s working residents hold coverage shaped by a negotiated agreement rather than a plan chosen fresh each year.

A 5.6 percent share also does not tell us how many other Long Beach residents work for a public employer outside the city proper, in county or state government, or for a school district that draws staff from beyond Long Beach itself. The figure counts where people live, not where every public-sector worker in the area is employed, and it is not a complete picture of how common agreement-based benefits are among this city’s residents.

A public administration job in Long Beach, whether with the city, the school district, or a Nassau County office nearby, tends to come with a fixed schedule and very little room to bend it: a shift that starts at the same time every day, a supervisor who notices an empty desk, and a lunch break too short to make a private phone call. Booking a weekly session around hours like that often means asking a colleague to cover a desk rather than simply stepping away, and a first intake held by video from a car in a parking lot is a familiar workaround for someone who cannot risk a coworker finding out. What keeps the paycheck steady does not keep the calendar open, and finding an hour that stays genuinely private is often the harder problem to solve, not the copay.

None of that says a public sector job by itself is a reason to start therapy. A steady schedule with little built-in flexibility describes a working condition, not a diagnosis, and plenty of Long Beach public employees carry it without any particular difficulty. What the figure establishes is only that privacy and timing, not cost, are the more likely friction point once someone has already decided to look into care.

Benefits written in an agreement, not chosen in a portal

When a benefit comes out of a multi-year agreement, it does not update the way an annual open enrollment plan might. The copay, deductible and coinsurance structure a public employee has this year is very likely the same structure they had two years ago, because the agreement that set it has not been renegotiated in that window.

That has a practical consequence for a first-session cost question: asking a coworker what they pay is a reasonable starting point, since a shared agreement often does mean shared terms, in a way that is less reliable at a private employer where individual plan tiers can vary. We still verify directly rather than relying on that pattern, since agreements do differ by bargaining unit and by department even within the same public employer.

A multi-year agreement is also not permanent. It expires and gets renegotiated, sometimes with a meaningful change to cost sharing when it does. A figure that was accurate two years ago can be stale the moment a new agreement takes effect, which is a separate reason we check your plan directly rather than treating “public employee” as a single, unchanging category.

Deductible first, then copay, then coinsurance

A deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket before your plan begins sharing costs. Once that is met, some plans apply a flat copay per visit, while others shift to coinsurance, a percentage of the visit’s cost you continue to owe. A number of plans combine the two, using a deductible for some services and a copay for others.

Which structure applies to your Aetna plan, and where you currently stand on any deductible, is not something printed on the card itself. We check your specific plan and tell you the actual figures before your first session, including whether you have already met your deductible through other medical costs earlier in the year.

New York State also caps a therapy copay at whatever your plan charges for a primary care visit, on plans regulated under state insurance law. That protection does not automatically reach a plan an employer self-funds rather than buys as a regulated policy, and public employers are not exempt from that distinction either way. We confirm which kind of plan actually applies to you rather than assuming the cap covers every Aetna card.

Self-referral, and the minority of plans that add a step

Most Aetna plans let a member self-refer directly to an in-network behavioral health provider, meaning no visit to a primary care doctor is required before starting therapy. That is the more common design across Aetna’s employer plans generally.

A minority of plan designs add a referral requirement anyway, often as part of a narrower network structure an employer selected. We confirm which kind applies to you as part of the benefits check, at the same time we confirm your cost sharing, so both questions are settled before you book rather than discovered partway through.

Public sector plans built through a multi-year agreement are not more or less likely to include a referral step than a private plan. It is a design choice made independently of whether the employer is public or private, which is one more reason a Long Beach public employee should not assume their plan works a particular way just because it came from a negotiated agreement.

Who reaches us on an Aetna plan

Adults 18 and older across Long Beach reach Aetna through a public sector job, a private employer, or coverage through a spouse or parent’s plan. People come in for anxiety, burnout, everyday stress management, difficulty managing anger, and depression, along with general therapy for anyone whose reason does not fit neatly into one category.

MindView has no office in Long Beach, and every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York. See the Long Beach location page for the full list of plans covered here, part of our statewide New York coverage.

You do not need a diagnosis to book, and you do not need to have already contacted your employer’s benefits office. A rough sense that something has gotten harder to carry is reasonable enough reason to check what your plan covers. Spouses and adult dependents covered under the same employer plan are also welcome, with their coverage verified individually rather than assumed from a shared plan number.

What the benefits check actually answers

Have your Aetna card ready. Booking is online and takes about 30 seconds. From there, we verify your specific plan directly and tell you the per-session cost, including where you stand on any deductible, before anything is scheduled.

If a referral step applies to your plan, we confirm that too, rather than letting it surface as a surprise later. Spouses and adult dependents covered under the same plan are welcome as well, and each person’s coverage is verified individually.

A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. From there you set a recurring weekly time that fits your schedule, with the cost already known before you start.

None of this requires you to have already read your own plan document or called your employer’s human resources office first. The verification step is ours to run, not yours, and it happens the same way whether your Aetna coverage came through a multi-year public agreement or a private employer’s plan chosen last fall.

What Aetna covers here

  • •Aetna sells no individual or marketplace plan anywhere in New York. Every Aetna card here arrived through a job, a spouse's job, or a parent's job.
  • •You pay your plan's copay, coinsurance or remaining deductible instead of the full session fee. You are never billed the difference.
  • •Because the benefit was designed by an employer, two people holding the same Aetna card can owe very different amounts per session.
  • •Most Aetna plans let you self-refer to an in-network behavioral health provider. A minority of designs add a step, and we confirm which yours is.
  • •On New York regulated plans, a therapy copay cannot exceed the primary care copay. That does not reach coverage an employer buys outside New York or self-funds.

How to book with Aetna

  1. 1

    Have your Aetna card ready.

  2. 2

Book online. It takes about 30 seconds.

  3. 3

We verify your specific employer plan's benefit and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled.

  4. 4

Your first session is an intake, held online by secure video from anywhere in New York State.

What does therapy here actually look like?

The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.

  1. Getting started

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.

  2. Mapping what is behind it

Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.

  3. Writing the plan together

You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

  4. Ongoing

Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.

Therapy here is measured, not guessed

Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.

Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Aetna questions

Can I buy an Aetna plan directly in New York?

No. Aetna sells no individual plan in New York State. Every Aetna card in this state arrived through a job, a spouse's job, or a parent's job. If you are shopping for coverage on your own rather than through work, that is a different route entirely, and we would tell you so plainly rather than pretend otherwise.

I work for a city, town or school district. Does that change what I owe?

It changes where the number came from rather than whether we can see you. Public sector benefits are usually written into agreements that run for years, negotiated once rather than chosen off a screen each fall. We read that document directly instead of guessing what a typical government plan looks like.

Why can two people with the same Aetna card owe different amounts?

Because their employers bought different plan designs. A copay is a flat amount per visit, a deductible is what you pay before the plan shares costs, and coinsurance is a percentage owed after that. Which combination applies to you was decided by your specific employer, not by Aetna, which is why we verify rather than quote a typical figure.

Do I need my primary care doctor to refer me?

Usually not. Most Aetna plans allow you to self-refer directly to an in-network behavioral health provider without a referral from a primary care doctor first. A minority of plan designs add that step anyway, and we confirm which kind applies to you during the benefits check before your first session.

Is there a MindView office in Long Beach?

No. Every Long Beach session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, from anywhere in the state. MindView's offices exist as offices, never as a place a client is seen in person, and none of them is in Long Beach.
