Why MindView
Most therapy in Long Beach has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Oscar Health. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Oscar Health in Long Beach, in short
MindView Therapy is in network with Oscar Health and sees Long Beach adults by secure video across New York State. Oscar is sold to individuals and families on the New York State marketplace, so an Oscar card is one you chose yourself. The metal tier you picked decides how the cost is split between what you pay monthly and what you pay per visit. We check your tier and deductible position and give you a per-session number before booking.
Buying your own health plan is less common in Long Beach than across Nassau County: 1,901 of the 21,867 residents aged 19 to 64 hold direct-purchase coverage, which is 8.7 percent against 13.7 percent countywide and 11.5 percent statewide. That is a coverage-route pattern and nothing more. What it does mean in practice is that fewer people around you have been through the tier decision, so it is worth spelling out what that choice actually bought.
The tier you picked is the price you set
An Oscar card is different from every other payer page in Long Beach in one specific way: you chose it. Nobody handed you an Oscar plan through a job or a fund. You sat down, compared metal tiers on the New York State marketplace, and picked one based on a monthly premium you were willing to pay.
We are in network with Oscar Health and see Long Beach adults by secure video across New York State. Because you made that choice yourself, the cost question here is less about mysterious employer design and more about arithmetic you can actually reconstruct: which tier you selected, and where you currently sit on your deductible for the year.
That puts an Oscar member in a genuinely different position than almost every other reader of this site. An employer plan’s cost sharing was set by someone else’s benefits team. A fund plan’s terms were bargained on a member’s behalf without their direct input. A marketplace plan is the one place where the reader already holds the information needed to reason about their own cost, because they are the one who picked it.
That does not mean the choice is always remembered clearly months later. Open enrollment happens once a year, and a tier selected in November can be hazy by the time a first therapy session comes up in the spring. We ask which tier you selected as part of booking, precisely because most people can tell us but few can recite the exact deductible and coinsurance figures from memory.
Premium now, or cost per visit later
Oscar sells plans across several metal tiers on the marketplace, and the tier chosen sets the general trade between monthly premium and per-visit cost. A higher tier means paying more each month in exchange for a lower deductible and lower cost sharing when care is actually used. A lower tier flips that trade, with a smaller monthly bill and a higher cost when a visit happens.
Neither direction is objectively correct. It depends on how much health care a person expected to use across the year when they made the choice, which is a judgment call rather than a mistake either way. What matters for booking now is simply knowing which tier was selected, since that single decision governs your deductible and coinsurance figures going forward.
Standard and non-standard plan designs add a further layer. A standard plan’s structure is set by the state, so its cost sharing at a given tier is identical across every insurer offering it. A non-standard plan lets an insurer customize the design within state rules, which means two people at the same tier can carry plans that behave differently. We confirm which design your specific Oscar plan uses as part of the same check.
Buying your own plan is the smaller route here
1,901 of the 21,867 Long Beach residents aged 19 to 64 hold coverage they bought themselves, 8.7 percent, against 13.7 percent across Nassau County and 11.5 percent statewide. That is a lower share than the surrounding county and state, and it is worth being precise about what that gap does and does not mean.
It is a coverage-route pattern, not a statement about the city or about affordability. Long Beach’s working-age uninsured rate sits well below the statewide figure, and its employer-coverage rate sits well above both the county and the state. A lower direct-purchase share here sits alongside a very high rate of employer coverage, which is the actual explanation, not a story about residents being unable or unwilling to buy their own plan.
What the smaller share does mean in practice is that fewer people around you locally have personally been through a metal-tier decision, so it is less likely a friend or coworker can walk you through what your specific choice actually bought. That is worth spelling out plainly rather than assuming everyone already understands it.
Choosing a marketplace plan also means choosing to make the same decision again every January, when a tier picked the previous fall gets weighed again against a new premium and a health year nobody can fully predict. Starting a weekly session on an Oscar plan in October or November means starting something that is likely to cross that renewal date within a few months, and worrying whether a recurring Tuesday appointment is still affordable come February is a real enough source of stress on its own, the kind that can make someone hesitate before booking at all. A session that costs one figure this fall can cost a different one once a new tier is selected, even with nothing else about the plan itself changed.
None of that means the timing of a plan year is a reason by itself to start or delay therapy, and a renewal date is a calendar fact, not a clinical one. What it does mean is that for someone on a marketplace plan, the honest question before booking a recurring weekly time is not only what a session costs today, but whether that cost is one a plan year away from now.
Deductible, copay, coinsurance, in that order
A deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket before your plan starts sharing costs. A copay, where your plan design includes one, is a flat amount per visit. Coinsurance is a percentage of the visit’s cost you owe once the deductible is met. Which of these applies to a given session, and at what amount, depends on your specific tier and where you stand on your deductible for the plan year.
A marketplace deductible resets every January 1, regardless of when you last used the plan. A course of weekly therapy that starts in October may run into a deductible already mostly satisfied by other medical costs earlier in the year, while the same course starting in February begins against a deductible reset to zero. We confirm both your tier and your current position before quoting a number.
What a weekly appointment does to the maths
A single annual physical or an occasional urgent care visit rarely brings a tier’s tradeoffs into sharp focus. A weekly therapy appointment does, because it is exactly the kind of recurring, predictable use that makes the difference between tiers show up clearly on a monthly statement rather than staying theoretical.
That is not a reason to avoid booking. It is a reason to know your number in advance rather than discover it after several sessions. We check your tier and deductible position specifically because a recurring weekly cost is worth getting right from the very first session, not adjusted for after the fact.
Someone starting weekly sessions in January is beginning at the least favorable point of the year for a high-deductible plan, with the full deductible still standing. The same person starting in November, having already used other medical care during the year, may find the deductible already satisfied and coinsurance the only cost that applies. Neither timing is right or wrong. Knowing which one applies is simply part of what we confirm.
Who books on a marketplace plan in Long Beach
Adults 18 and older across Long Beach who bought their own coverage on the New York State marketplace reach us through Oscar Health. People come in for anxiety, depression, the adjustments that come with life transitions, everyday stress management, and low self-esteem, along with general therapy for anyone whose reason does not fit neatly into one category.
MindView has no office in Long Beach, and every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York. See the Long Beach location page for the full list of plans covered here, part of our statewide New York coverage. You do not need a diagnosis to book, and choosing your own plan does not mean you have to have every question answered before reaching out.
Checking where you stand before session one
Have your Oscar Health card ready. Booking is online and takes about 30 seconds. We check where you stand on your deductible for the current plan year and confirm your metal tier, then tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled.
A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. From there you set a recurring weekly time that fits your schedule, held entirely by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, with the number already reflecting the plan you chose for yourself.
What Oscar Health covers here
- •Oscar Health is sold on the individual New York State marketplace only. There has been no employer route into Oscar since it exited small group coverage on December 15, 2024.
- •A marketplace plan's deductible resets every January 1, so the same plan and the same clinician can cost differently in February than in October.
- •Your metal tier changes the balance between your monthly premium and what you pay per session.
- •On a New York regulated marketplace plan, a therapy copay cannot exceed the primary care copay, without the self-funded caveat that applies to employer plans.
- •We verify the benefit and give the per-session number before anything is booked.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Oscar Health questions
Does my metal tier change what a therapy session costs?
Yes, and that is the core of how an Oscar plan works. A higher tier trades a higher monthly premium for lower cost sharing when you use care, and a lower tier trades the reverse. We do not recommend a tier or say one is better; we simply confirm which one you selected and translate that choice into the actual per-session number that applies to you.
I bought this plan myself. Are you still in network?
Yes. Marketplace coverage is real coverage, and we are in network with Oscar Health the same way we are with employer plans. Buying your own plan rather than getting it through work changes nothing about whether we can see you, and it does not change the intake process either.
Not many people I know here buy their own plan. Does that matter?
Only in the sense that fewer people around you have already been through the same tier decision. 8.7 percent of working-age Long Beach residents hold coverage they bought directly, against 13.7 percent countywide. That is a coverage-route pattern, not a statement about the city, and it sits alongside a very high employer-coverage rate here rather than suggesting people cannot afford their own plan.
Can I get an Oscar plan through my job instead?
No. Oscar is sold on the individual marketplace only in New York, and there has been no employer group route into Oscar since it exited that market on December 15, 2024. If your coverage came through a job, it is a different payer, and we would tell you that plainly rather than guess.
Is there a MindView office in Long Beach?
No. Every Long Beach session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, from anywhere in the state. MindView's offices exist as offices, never as a place a client is seen in person, and none of them is in Long Beach.
