Why MindView
Most therapy in Glen Cove has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Aetna. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Aetna in Glen Cove, in short
MindView Therapy is in-network with Aetna and sees Glen Cove adults by secure video anywhere in New York State. Aetna sells no individual plan in New York, so an Aetna card here arrived through a job. If you bought your own coverage it is not an Aetna plan, because that route does not exist in this state. For everyone else, the employer wrote the cost sharing, and we check it before booking.
In Glen Cove 2,252 of 16,672 residents aged 19 to 64 hold coverage they bought themselves, which is 13.5 percent against 11.5 percent statewide. Not one of those plans is an Aetna plan, because Aetna does not sell individual coverage anywhere in New York. That is the cleanest way to explain what an Aetna card is here, proof that somebody's employer made a decision on your behalf.
The route an Aetna card cannot have taken
Yes. MindView is in-network with Aetna, and Glen Cove adults are seen by secure video anywhere in New York State. There is a genuinely useful way to define what an Aetna card is here, by ruling out the route it never took. In Glen Cove, 2,252 of 16,672 residents aged 19 to 64 hold coverage they bought themselves, 13.5 percent, against 11.5 percent statewide. Across all ages the figure is 4,442 residents, 16.1 percent of the city.
Not one of those plans is an Aetna plan, because Aetna sells no individual health coverage anywhere in New York State. That means every Aetna card in this city arrived a different way, through a job, yours or a household member’s, and the number you owe was never something you chose from a menu.
What your employer decided for you
An Aetna benefit is built by an employer’s HR and benefits team, sized to a budget and a workforce rather than picked out by any individual employee. That is a structurally different decision than someone shopping for their own coverage the way the 2,252 direct-purchase residents above did. An employer weighs premium cost against deductible size against network breadth across an entire staff, and the resulting plan is a compromise none of its members had a hand in shaping.
None of the tradeoffs behind that compromise are visible to an employee holding the card. The plan document itself, not a general description of what Aetna typically covers, is what actually determines a specific person’s cost, which is why we verify it rather than describe a typical design.
A marketplace plan publishes its terms for anyone to review before buying, tiers and all. An employer plan does not work that way, and there is nothing equivalent to browse. That gap between the two is exactly why a direct benefits check carries more weight here than a general description of what Aetna covers ever could.
Copay, coinsurance and deductible, in plain terms
A copay is a flat amount charged per visit, the same every time regardless of how many sessions came before it. Coinsurance is a percentage of the allowed cost, charged after a deductible is met, so the dollar amount moves with the visit. A deductible is a running total paid before the plan shares the cost at all, and it resets on a schedule the employer’s plan sets, typically once a year.
Which of the three a reader meets first depends entirely on the employer’s design. Some Aetna plans lead with a copay for outpatient therapy from the first visit. Others route therapy through the deductible, so early sessions in a plan year cost more out of pocket than later ones on the same plan. Most employer plans also set an out-of-pocket maximum for the year, a ceiling past which the plan covers the remaining cost at no charge.
People mix up these three terms constantly, and it is not carelessness. A copay is easy to hold onto because it is a flat number that never moves. Coinsurance is harder to keep straight because it is a percentage rather than a dollar amount, and it does not apply at all until a deductible has been satisfied. If your deductible has not been met yet this plan year, session one is priced differently than a session later in the year will be, and that is the deductible working as designed rather than a billing mistake.
What changes on January 1
A calendar-year deductible resets on January 1, and the dollars paid toward it in December do not carry forward. If an employer’s plan routes therapy through the deductible, a session in the first week of January can cost meaningfully more than the same session had in November, even though nothing about the care itself changed.
This catches people off guard more than almost anything else about an employer plan, because the plan and the therapist both stayed the same. Only the calendar moved. Knowing that ahead of time, and knowing where a specific deductible stands before booking, is the difference between a predictable cost and a surprising one.
Where New York parity stops
New York State requires that on a New York-regulated policy, a therapy copay cannot exceed the copay for a primary care visit. That protection applies to plenty of Aetna plans held in Glen Cove. It has a limit worth knowing: it reaches policies regulated in New York, and it does not automatically reach a plan an employer funds itself or buys through an out-of-state arrangement.
Whether a specific employer’s plan falls into that first category or the second is not something we can determine in the abstract, because it depends on how the employer structured the benefit, not on anything printed plainly on the card. Confirming it is part of the same check we run before booking, so the parity question gets a real answer.
Two Aetna cards can carry the same logo and the same plan name printed on the front while one sits on a policy the parity rule reaches and the other sits on an arrangement it does not. Nothing about the card itself signals which is which, which is exactly the kind of detail a benefits verification exists to catch before it becomes a surprise.
13.5 percent, and the limit of what it proves
For someone paying for coverage directly rather than through an employer, agreeing to commit to a weekly session is not a small decision. It means weighing that cost against a premium due again at renewal, and it is often what makes someone put off calling until a new plan year settles and the numbers are clear. That kind of arithmetic, done alone rather than handed to an employer’s benefits office, is what someone actually carries into a first session: a standing weekly time measured against a household budget before anything else gets discussed.
The direct-purchase figures above describe how Glen Cove residents obtain coverage they buy for themselves, and they establish only that Aetna cannot be among them, since that route does not exist for this carrier. They say nothing about how many Glen Cove residents specifically carry an Aetna card through a job, and no such figure exists for us to cite.
We are stating that limit directly rather than letting a specific-sounding percentage imply more than it can support. A statistic about direct-purchase coverage is not a statistic about Aetna’s employer-group presence, and treating the two as connected beyond the negative definition above would overstate what the data shows. The 13.5 percent figure answers exactly one question, which route Aetna does not take here, and nothing about how many residents take the route it does.
Booking with a plan you did not design
Adults 18 and older across Glen Cove reach MindView on an Aetna card through a job, whether their own employer or a spouse’s or parent’s. People come in for anxiety, depression, burnout, everyday stress management, and the life transitions that do not always have a clean name.
MindView has no office in Glen Cove, and every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York. See the Glen Cove location page for the full list of plans covered here, part of MindView’s statewide New York coverage.
You do not need to already know your plan’s deductible or coinsurance percentage to start. A rough sense that something has gotten harder than it should be is reason enough to book a first session and let the benefits check handle the arithmetic.
Have your Aetna member ID card ready. Book online; it takes about 30 seconds, and nothing about a specific employer’s plan design needs to be sorted out in advance. We verify the benefit and tell you the per-session cost, deductible included, before anything is scheduled.
A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. A recurring weekly time gets set before the session ends, with the cost already confirmed.
What Aetna covers here
- •You pay your plan's copay, coinsurance, or remaining deductible instead of the full session fee. You are never billed the difference.
- •Aetna sells no individual plan in New York, so every Aetna card here came through an employer or a family member's employer.
- •Because your employer chose the plan design, two people holding the same Aetna card can owe very different amounts per session.
- •New York State's parity rule limits a therapy copay to no more than your plan's primary care copay, on a New York-regulated policy.
- •We verify your specific benefit and confirm the per-session cost before anything is scheduled.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Aetna questions
Can I buy an Aetna plan myself in Glen Cove?
No. Aetna sells no individual health plan anywhere in New York State, so this is not a Glen Cove-specific gap, it holds true across the entire state. Of 16,672 working-age Glen Cove residents, 2,252 buy their own coverage, and none of it can be Aetna, because that route simply does not exist. If you buy your own plan, it comes from a different carrier entirely, and we can still check whatever you hold before your first session.
Why does my coworker pay less per session than I do?
Because your employer designs the benefit, not Aetna. Two Glen Cove households can carry the same Aetna card through different employers and land on different copays, different coinsurance percentages, and different deductibles, sometimes by a wide margin. That is why we look up your specific plan rather than quoting an average that would only describe some of the people reading it.
Why is my January session more expensive than my November one?
A calendar-year deductible resets on January 1, and the dollars you paid toward it in December do not carry forward into the new year. A session booked early in the year can cost more out of pocket than the same session later on the same plan, purely because of where the deductible stands, not because anything about your care changed.
Do I need a referral before booking therapy on Aetna?
Usually not. Outpatient therapy on most employer plans is self-referred, meaning you can book directly without seeing a primary care provider first. A minority of plan designs add an extra step, and that is one of the things we confirm during your benefits check rather than something you need to research on your own.
Does MindView have a Glen Cove office?
No. Every Glen Cove session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York State, from anywhere inside it. MindView's offices are in Queens and Buffalo, named as offices rather than places where Glen Cove clients are seen in person, since telehealth is how every client across the practice is seen.
