Why MindView
Most therapy in Niagara Falls has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Aetna. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Aetna in Niagara Falls, in short
MindView Therapy is in-network with Aetna and sees Niagara Falls clients by secure video anywhere in New York State. The one thing to know before booking is that a session is lawful only while you are physically on the New York side, not in Ontario, even for lifelong Niagara Falls residents who cross regularly. We verify your Aetna benefit before your first session and we are accepting new clients.
This page has two useful parts. The border rule, which catches people out here more than anywhere else we serve. And the Aetna referral rule, which varies by product and is the most common reason a first therapy claim comes back rejected.
Does MindView take Aetna in Niagara Falls?
Yes. We are in-network with Aetna on the behavioral side, and Niagara Falls clients are seen by secure video anywhere in New York State.
Being in-network settles the money question. You owe the copay, coinsurance or unmet deductible your plan sets, and nobody bills you for the gap between our rate and Aetna’s.
The border rule nobody explains before you book
Read this one properly, because it catches people here in a way it does not catch anyone else in the state.
A therapist has to be licensed in the place where you are physically sitting during the session. Not where you live. Not where you pay taxes. Not where the practice keeps an address. Where your body is, at that hour.
Our clinicians are licensed in New York. So a session is lawful when you are on the New York side of the river, and it is not lawful when you are in Ontario, even if you are a lifelong Niagara Falls resident who happens to be across the bridge that afternoon. The border does not care that you live here.
That reads worse than it plays out. It is a scheduling question, not a barrier. If you cross for work, for family, or for a shift that puts you in Canada at a predictable hour, say so at intake and the standing appointment gets built around your crossings.
What causes actual trouble is not the border. It is finding out about the rule four months into a course of therapy and quietly missing sessions rather than explaining why.
Aetna’s referral rule changes by product
The second thing worth two minutes.
“Do you take Aetna” is a question with a less useful answer than people expect, because Aetna is not one plan. It is a catalogue sold to employers who each pick a different design.
The difference that costs money is the referral. Several Aetna HMO products still route specialty care through your primary care physician, which means starting therapy without that referral produces a denial you learn about weeks later. Most PPO and open-access designs let you go straight to an in-network behavioral provider with nothing from anyone.
You cannot tell which you have by looking at the logo. We check the product during verification, before you book.
What a session costs
The structure is straightforward even when the number is not.
Unmet deductible means you pay Aetna’s contracted rate per session. That rate is meaningfully below our cash rate, and every session counts toward the deductible. Once it is met you move to a flat copay or a coinsurance percentage for the rest of the plan year.
Which one applies and what it comes to depends on your employer’s plan design, so we verify and hand you the figure rather than publishing a range that may not include you.
No Niagara Falls office
We do not have one. The nearest is Buffalo, and it would not change anything if you drove there, because every session at MindView is online by secure video. That is true in every market we serve, including the cities where we do have an office. There is no in-person alternative to weigh.
What you need is somewhere you can speak freely for the hour. A parked car on a break works, and a lot of people use one. A shared kitchen with somebody in the next room usually does not.
Who books here
Adults 18 and older across Niagara County. Clients come from downtown, LaSalle, DeVeaux, Hyde Park and the North End, and from Wheatfield, Lewiston, Youngstown, Sanborn and Lockport.
The reasons are ordinary ones: worry that will not switch off, a mood that has flattened, an old event that still intrudes, compulsions, exhaustion, loss, a relationship that has gone quiet. Come with a vague sense that something is off. Naming it is the work, not the entry requirement.
Most commonly anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD and couples work.
What the first three appointments look like
The opening is a fixed shape, so you are never guessing what happens next.
Session one is the intake: what brought you in, what you want to be different, and a 0 to 10 rating that becomes your baseline. The picture then widens across history, work, health and relationships, with any question declinable. That becomes a written treatment plan in your own language, including at least one goal that matters to you beyond symptom scores.
From there sessions run weekly. Once a month you complete standardized measures and read the trend with your therapist. If it is not moving after a fair trial, the plan changes.
On whether this format works at all: studies putting video-delivered CBT next to the in-person version have generally found comparable outcomes for outpatient concerns. That is a measured statement rather than a promise, and it is the strongest one anybody can honestly make.

What Aetna covers here
- •Aetna is part of CVS Health. We are in-network on the behavioral side, which is the side a therapy claim runs through.
- •In-network means you owe the copay, coinsurance or unmet deductible your plan sets. The gap between our rate and Aetna's contracted rate is not billed to you.
- •Aetna HMO products can require a primary care referral for specialty care. PPO and open-access products generally do not. We check your product before you book.
- •New York parity law requires most commercial plans to cover outpatient mental health comparably to medical care.
- •A session must be taken from inside New York State. Crossing into Ontario during a session is a licensure problem regardless of where you live or which plan you hold.
How to book with Aetna
- 1
Have the Aetna card for the person who will attend sessions.
- 2
Book through our secure client portal. About 30 seconds.
- 3
We verify your Aetna behavioral benefit, confirm the referral rule for your product, and quote your cost before anything is scheduled.
- 4
If you cross into Canada on a predictable schedule, say so at intake so the standing appointment is set around it.
What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.
Use your Aetna benefits and get started.

Aetna questions
I live in Niagara Falls but I am in Ontario a lot. Does that matter?
Yes, and it is the single most important thing on this page. A therapist has to be licensed where you are physically sitting during the session, not where you live or where the practice is. Our clinicians are licensed in New York. So a session works when you are on the New York side of the river and it does not when you are across the bridge, even though you are a Niagara Falls resident either way. The border does not care where your mail goes. In practice this is a scheduling detail, not a barrier, as long as you tell us at intake.
Does my Aetna plan need a referral before therapy?
It depends on the product. Most Aetna PPO and open-access designs let you self-refer straight to an in-network behavioral provider. Some HMO products still route specialty care through a primary care physician, and going ahead without that referral is how a first claim comes back denied weeks later. We confirm which situation you are in during verification.
Do you have an office in Niagara Falls?
No. Our nearest office is in Buffalo. Every session is online by secure video, and that is true in every market we serve including the cities where we do have an office. There is no in-person option to weigh against it.
What will I actually pay?
If your deductible is unmet you pay Aetna's contracted rate per session, which sits well below our cash rate, and each session counts toward the deductible. Once it is met you move to your copay or coinsurance. Aetna sells enough plan designs that any published range would be a guess, so we verify yours and give you the figure before your first appointment.
Can I take the session from my car?
Yes, and plenty of people here do. What you need is somewhere you can speak freely for the hour with reliable audio, and a parked car often beats a full house for that. What does not work is being in motion, being somewhere you can be overheard, or being on the Canadian side.
