If you searched for an Aetna therapist in Buffalo, this is the short version. We take Aetna, we are accepting new clients, and you can book online in about two minutes. Sessions are available at our Washington Street office and by telehealth anywhere in New York.

Does MindView take Aetna in Buffalo?

Yes. MindView Therapy is in-network with Aetna at our downtown Buffalo office, and by telehealth throughout New York State.

In-network is the part that matters for your wallet. Aetna has a negotiated rate with us, so you are responsible for your copay or coinsurance, not the full cost of the session. You are not billed the difference.

What will I actually pay?

That depends on your specific Aetna plan, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Most people pay a copay per session. Some plans use coinsurance, where you pay a percentage of the negotiated rate. Some require you to meet a deductible first, which means you pay the negotiated rate until the deductible is met, and then your copay applies.

Aetna plans vary widely, especially employer-sponsored ones. A large employer in Western New York may self-fund its plan and simply rent Aetna’s network, which changes the details on your card but not the network you can see. We verify your benefits before your first session and tell you what you will owe. No surprise bill after the fact.

Do I need a referral to see a therapist with Aetna?

Usually not. Aetna’s PPO and open-access plans generally let you self-refer to an in-network behavioral health provider. You do not need a primary care physician to sign off first.

There are exceptions. Some gated HMO products still require a referral, and some plans require precertification for higher levels of care. Routine outpatient therapy rarely does. When we verify your benefits, we check this so it never becomes a surprise.

Where is the Buffalo office?

Our Buffalo office is at 369 Washington Street, 1st Floor, Suite 110, Buffalo, NY 14203.

It is downtown, and it serves clients across Buffalo and Western New York, including Elmwood Village, North Buffalo, Allentown, Amherst, Cheektowaga, and Tonawanda. Telehealth is available anywhere in New York, so you can also be seen from home if getting downtown is the hard part.

What does therapy here involve?

Every client follows the same clear structure, so you always know what comes next.

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in, your history, and what you want to change. The second session is a psychosocial assessment, a fuller picture of your life across work, relationships, health, and history. In the third session you build your treatment plan together, with goals tied directly to what you came in for, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

From there, sessions are weekly. Once a month you complete standardized measures, such as the PHQ-9 and GAD-7, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If the data says something is not working, the plan changes. Therapy here is measured, not guessed.

What Aetna covers here

  • Aetna is a CVS Health company. Its behavioral health benefits typically cover outpatient individual, couples, and family therapy with an in-network provider.
  • Because we are in-network, you owe your plan's copay, coinsurance, or remaining deductible rather than the full session rate. There is no balance billing for the difference.
  • Aetna generally does not require a primary care referral for outpatient behavioral health on its PPO and open-access plans. Some HMO products still gate it.
  • Telehealth is covered on most Aetna plans at the same benefit level as an in-office visit.
  • Employer-sponsored Aetna plans vary widely, including self-funded ones administered under the Aetna name. We verify your specific plan rather than guessing.

Have your Aetna member ID card handy. The member ID and group number are on the front.

  2. 2

Book a session online through our secure client portal. It takes about two minutes and is mostly checkboxes.

  3. 3

We verify your Aetna behavioral health benefits and confirm what you will owe before your first appointment.

  4. 4

Come to your first session, which is an intake. If anything about your coverage changes, we tell you before it costs you anything.

What does therapy here actually look like?

The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.

  1. Session 1: Intake

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.

  2. Session 2: Psychosocial

Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.

  3. Session 3: Treatment plan

You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

  4. Ongoing

Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.

Therapy here is measured, not guessed

Once a month you have a Psycho-Measurement-Based Care Review (PMBCR). You complete standardized measures, such as the PHQ-9 and GAD-7, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.

Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Aetna questions

Is MindView Therapy in-network with Aetna in Buffalo?

Yes. We are in-network with Aetna at our Buffalo office at 369 Washington Street, and for telehealth across New York State.

What will therapy cost me with Aetna?

With an in-network provider you pay your plan's copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee, and any unmet deductible may apply first. Costs vary by plan, so we verify your benefits and tell you the number before your first session.

Does Aetna cover online therapy in New York?

Most Aetna plans cover telehealth at the same benefit level as an in-office visit. We confirm this for your specific plan when we check your benefits.

Do I need a referral from my doctor to use Aetna for therapy?

Usually not. Most Aetna plans let you see an in-network behavioral health provider without a referral. If your plan is an HMO that requires one, we will tell you when we verify your benefits.

My employer uses Aetna but the card looks different. Does that still work?

Often yes. Many employers self-fund and use Aetna's network through a third-party administrator such as Meritain Health. Send us what is on the card and we will check it.

How soon can I be seen?

We are accepting new clients and respond within one business day. You can book online any time.
