Does MindView take UnitedHealthcare?
Yes. MindView Therapy is in-network with UnitedHealthcare in New York. That covers our Queens and Buffalo offices, and telehealth anywhere in New York State.
In-network means UnitedHealthcare has a negotiated rate with us. You are responsible for your copay or coinsurance, not the full cost of the session, and you are not billed the difference.
Why does my mental health benefit say Optum?
Because UnitedHealthcare runs its behavioral health network through Optum, which is UnitedHealth Group’s behavioral health arm. Your medical card says UnitedHealthcare, but therapy claims are processed by Optum, and the mental health number on the back of your card usually routes there.
This confuses a lot of members, so it is worth saying plainly: being in-network with UnitedHealthcare and being in-network with Optum are the same thing for us. You do not need to work out which one to give us. Give us the card.
One thing to watch for. Some employers also buy a separate EAP through Optum, which gives you a set number of prepaid counseling sessions before your regular benefits apply. That is a different benefit with different rules. When we verify coverage, we tell you which one you are using.
What will I pay?
That depends on your specific UnitedHealthcare plan, and we will not guess.
Most people pay a copay per session. Some plans use coinsurance, a percentage of the negotiated rate. Some require you to meet a deductible first, in which case you pay the negotiated rate until the deductible is met and your copay takes over.
We verify your benefits before your first session and tell you what you will owe. No surprise bill after the fact.
Do I need a referral, and is telehealth covered?
Usually no referral. Most UnitedHealthcare commercial plans let you see an in-network behavioral health provider without one. Some HMO designs are the exception, and we check the plan type when we verify your benefits.
Telehealth is covered on most UnitedHealthcare plans at the same benefit level as an in-office visit. Sessions are available by video anywhere in New York.

UnitedHealthcare questions
Does MindView Therapy take UnitedHealthcare?
Yes. We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare in New York, at our Queens and Buffalo offices, and for telehealth across New York State.
Why does my UnitedHealthcare therapy benefit say Optum?
Optum is UnitedHealth Group's behavioral health arm. It administers the mental health network and claims for UnitedHealthcare plans. Being in-network with UnitedHealthcare and being in-network with Optum are the same thing here.
What will therapy cost me with UnitedHealthcare?
You pay your plan's copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee, and any unmet deductible may apply first. Costs vary by plan, so we verify your benefits and tell you the number before your first session.
Do I need a referral to use UnitedHealthcare for therapy?
Most UnitedHealthcare commercial plans do not require a referral for in-network outpatient therapy. Some HMO plans do. We check this when we verify your benefits.
Does UnitedHealthcare cover online therapy?
Most UnitedHealthcare plans cover telehealth at the same benefit level as an in-office visit. We confirm this for your specific plan.
My employer gave me an EAP through Optum. Is that the same benefit?
No. An EAP is a separate product with a set number of prepaid sessions and its own rules. It is not the same as your outpatient behavioral health benefit. When we verify coverage, we tell you which one applies.
