What is Oxford, and is it UnitedHealthcare?
Oxford Health Plans is a UnitedHealthcare company. Its behavioral health network and therapy claims are administered by Optum, the same behavioral health arm that handles UnitedHealthcare plans.
That relationship is useful to know, but it does not make the plans interchangeable. Oxford is a tri-state plan, long established in the New York area and common among New York City and Westchester employers. It keeps its own product lines and its own rules, which is why we verify Oxford specifically rather than assuming it behaves like a standard UnitedHealthcare plan.
Does MindView take Oxford?
Yes. MindView Therapy is in-network with Oxford Health Plans in New York, at our Queens and Buffalo offices and by telehealth anywhere in the state.
Because we are in-network, you pay your plan’s copay or coinsurance, not the full session fee, and you are not billed the difference.
Why does my Oxford plan name matter?
Because the plan name on your card changes the rules. Oxford sells several product lines, including Freedom, Liberty, and Metro, and they can carry different networks and different requirements.
The most important difference is the referral question. Many Oxford plans let you see an in-network behavioral health provider directly. Some gated and HMO designs require a referral before outpatient therapy is covered, and members frequently do not know which one they have until a claim is denied.
We check this up front. When we verify your benefits, we confirm whether a referral is required and tell you before your first session rather than after.
What will I pay?
That depends on your specific Oxford plan, and we will not guess at it.
Most people pay a copay per session. Some plans use coinsurance, a percentage of the negotiated rate. Some require you to meet a deductible first, in which case you pay the negotiated rate until it is met.
Telehealth is covered on most Oxford plans at the same benefit level as an in-office visit. We verify your benefits before your first session and tell you what you will owe. No surprise bill afterward.
How do I get started?

How to check your Oxford Health Plans coverage
- 1
Find your Oxford member ID card. The plan name, such as Freedom, Liberty, or Metro, is usually printed on the front, and it matters.
- 2
Sign in to your member account at myuhc.com to view your outpatient behavioral health benefit.
- 3
Call the behavioral health number on the back of your card and ask two things. What is my cost per outpatient therapy visit, and does my plan require a referral.
- 4
MindView verifies your Oxford behavioral health benefits, including any referral requirement, and tells you what you will owe before your first session.
