Every clinician state-licensed

Why MindView

Most therapy in Portland has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Portland deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Therapy in Portland, in short

MindView Therapy sees Portland clients by secure video anywhere in Indiana. We provide structured, evidence-based therapy for adults (18+), in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna, and Aetna. No Portland office - sessions run by video from home. Accepting new clients now.

Portland is the Jay County seat, platted in 1837 and named after Portland, Maine, with the Salamonie River running through it. It is a small county-seat town in east-central Indiana, surrounded by farm ground and by the other Jay County communities - Dunkirk, Redkey, Pennville, Bryant, Salamonia. We see Jay County adults by secure video, in-network with Anthem, Cigna, and Aetna.

A county seat a long way from anywhere

Portland was platted in 1837 and named for Portland, Maine. It became the Jay County seat, and that is still the shape of the town: a courthouse, a commercial historic district around it, a public library, and older houses like the Jonas Votaw House. The Salamonie River runs through. Beyond the town limits it is farm ground, and beyond that the rest of Jay County - Dunkirk, Bryant, Pennville, Redkey, Salamonia - each one smaller than Portland.

There is no metro nearby, which is the plain fact that governs a lot of daily life here. When you need something a small town does not have, you drive. That is fine for a once-a-year errand. It is a serious problem for anything you are supposed to do every single week.

We offer secure video sessions for adults (18+) across Indiana, in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna, and Aetna, and we answer inside one business day. Our office is in Carmel, IN, and Portland care does not run through it.

The rural math on weekly therapy

Therapy works because it repeats. One session is an introduction. Twelve sessions in a row is treatment. Everything that makes the repetition harder - distance, gas, an hour of driving, a schedule that has to bend around it - directly lowers the odds anyone finishes.

In a county with no city in it, that math is brutal. People start, drive to a few appointments, hit a busy stretch, and quietly stop. Then it gets filed as “therapy did not work for me,” when what actually failed was the commute.

Video does not fix everything, but it fixes that. The appointment happens where you already are.

What we hear from Jay County

Anxiety and depression in ordinary rural working life - farm work, county and school employment, healthcare, trades, and the driving many people do to reach a job outside the county.

Loneliness, which is genuinely different from depression and often gets mistaken for it. In a place where a lot of people live spread out, where friends move away and the ones who stay are busy, isolation builds slowly and quietly. It responds well to treatment once it is named.

Grief, which in a small county is public before it is private. Everyone knows. Everyone brings food. And then, weeks later, everyone moves on while you have not.

Life transitions - retirement, a job ending, an adult child leaving, a parent needing care. Marriages worn thin by long hours and a long winter.

No diagnosis is needed to book. “I am not doing well and I am not sure why” is a complete starting point.

How the work is organized

Every question in it is optional. First comes the intake - background, current trouble, and 0-to-10 ratings of each symptom, which become the baseline. The work then opens out into the rest of your history, nothing in it compulsory, and settles into a written treatment plan built jointly, in plain language, with a personal goal included.

Then it is weekly work, with a monthly review of standardized measures. When the numbers stall, so does the current plan. If the numbers are not moving, the plan changes rather than drifting. That is the whole reason to measure.

The method follows the problem rather than a house style, anchored in cognitive behavioral therapy, which is structured and practical. You leave each session with something to practice. Your therapist is licensed in Indiana.

The cost side

We are in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Cigna - we are in-network. Aetna - we are in-network.

What does therapy here actually look like?

The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.

  1. The first meeting

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.

  2. The wider picture

Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.

  3. Building the plan

You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

  4. Ongoing

Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.

Therapy here is measured, not guessed

Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.

Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Portland questions

Does MindView Therapy have an office in Portland, IN?

No. Our Indiana office is in Carmel, IN, and Portland care runs entirely by secure video. Nothing about your care depends on driving there.

There is not much locally. Is video actually a full substitute?

For weekly talk therapy with an adult, yes. The session is the same length, with the same therapist, the same structure, and the same treatment plan. What changes is that you are not spending an hour of your day getting there and back.

What insurance do you take in Portland?

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna, and Aetna, all in-network. Anthem is Indiana's Blue Cross Blue Shield plan. We verify your specific benefits and quote your exact cost before the first session.

In a town this size, will people know?

There is no office to walk into and no car parked outside one. Your record is confidential and nothing about your care is visible around the square.

My internet is not great. Does that rule this out?

Not usually. Video sessions need far less bandwidth than streaming, and a phone hotspot is often enough. If the connection genuinely will not hold, tell us at intake and we will address it directly rather than letting you find out mid-session.

Who is the therapist?

Our Indiana-licensed therapist, who sees Indiana clients statewide by secure video. You keep the same therapist week to week.

What happens in the first session?

An intake - what brought you in, your history, what you want to change, and 0-to-10 ratings of what you are feeling, which become your baseline.

How soon can I start, and what does it cost?

We are accepting new clients and respond within one business day. In-network, you pay your copay or coinsurance, with any unmet deductible first. We give you the number before session one.

How do I get started?
