Why MindView
Most therapy in Oakland City has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Most practices in Oakland City deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Therapy in Oakland City, in short
MindView Therapy sees Oakland City clients by secure video anywhere in Indiana. We provide structured, evidence-based therapy for adults (18+), in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna, and Aetna. No Oakland City office - sessions run by video from home. Accepting new clients now.
Oakland City is the second-largest city in Gibson County, established in 1856 and probably named for its oak trees. Its distinguishing feature is that a very small southwestern Indiana city has a resident university - Oakland City University, a private university founded in 1885 that now offers degrees through a global campus. Princeton and Fort Branch are the nearby towns. We see Gibson County adults by secure video, in-network with Anthem, Cigna, and Aetna.
A very small city with a university in it
Oakland City was established in 1856 and probably took its name from its oak trees. It is the second-largest city in Gibson County, in the far southwestern corner of Indiana, with Princeton and Fort Branch nearby. On its own that describes a lot of Indiana towns.
What makes it different is the campus. Oakland City University has been here since 1885, a private university that now grants degrees on campus and through a global campus. A resident university in a city this small changes the arithmetic of the place: it is an employer, it brings adults in from elsewhere every year, and it puts an academic calendar on top of an otherwise agricultural and small-town rhythm.
The city has produced athletes with national names. Baseball Hall of Famer Edd Roush was born here, and Gil Hodges attended the college. The William M. Cockrum House and the public library sit alongside the campus in a town you can cross quickly.
We offer secure video sessions for adults (18+) across Indiana, in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna, and Aetna, and we answer inside one business day. Our office is in Carmel, IN, and Oakland City care does not run through it.
When campus and town are the same social circle
In a big college town, the university and the community are separate worlds and you can move between them. Here they are not separate. Your colleague is your neighbor. The person who teaches your class shops at the same store. The person who processes your paperwork knows your family.
That has real upsides. It also means privacy is harder to come by than in almost any other setting, and privacy is one of the top reasons people put off mental health care for years. A video session removes the visibility problem completely - there is no building to be seen entering and no lot to be seen parked in.
What we hear from Gibson County
Loneliness and isolation in people who arrived recently for school or a job. A small community with established social networks can be a hard place to break into, and the resulting isolation is genuinely different from depression even though it frequently becomes depression if it goes long enough.
Academic-cycle stress in faculty and staff, which spikes on a predictable calendar and is heavily tied to evaluation - and which tends to be carried privately when colleagues are also neighbors.
Anxiety and depression across the rest of the county’s working life: agriculture, healthcare, education, trades, and the commutes people make to jobs elsewhere in the region.
Life transitions, which arrive constantly anywhere there is a university. People finish degrees and leave. People arrive alone. People retire in the same town where they worked for thirty years.
You do not need a diagnosis or the right vocabulary to book. The intake is where we sort out what is happening.
What to expect, session by session
Any question can be passed over. Three sessions set it up. The opening session is an intake, covering your history and the reason you called, and closing with 0-to-10 ratings that anchor everything measured later. From there your therapist fills in the fuller context, at whatever depth suits you, and the two of you put a written treatment plan on paper, in your words, with one goal that is purely yours.
Then it is weekly work, with a monthly review of standardized measures. When the numbers stall, so does the current plan. If the numbers are not moving, the plan changes rather than drifting. That is the whole reason to measure.
The method follows the problem rather than a house style, anchored in cognitive behavioral therapy, which is structured and practical. Your therapist is licensed in Indiana.
The cost side
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield - we are in-network. We take it. Cigna - we are in-network. Aetna - we are in-network.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- The first meeting
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- The wider picture
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Building the plan
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Oakland City questions
Does MindView Therapy have an office in Oakland City?
No. Our Indiana office is in Carmel, IN, and Oakland City care runs entirely by secure video. Nothing about your care depends on driving there.
Do you see university employees and adult students?
Yes, we see adults 18 and over, including faculty, staff, and adult students. Academic work runs on its own annual cycle with evaluation built in, and on a small campus your professional and social lives overlap heavily. A session from your own home stays outside that overlap.
What insurance do you take in Oakland City?
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna, and Aetna, all in-network. Anthem is Indiana's Blue Cross Blue Shield plan. We verify your specific benefits and quote your exact cost before the first session.
In a town this small with a campus in the middle of it, is this actually private?
That is a legitimate concern where campus and town are the same social circle. With video there is no office, no waiting room, and no parking lot for anyone to notice. Your record is confidential and nothing about your care is visible locally.
I moved here for school or work and I do not know anyone. Is that worth bringing in?
Yes. Isolation is not the same as depression, though it often turns into it, and it is very common in people who relocate to a small community where everyone else already has their people. It responds well to treatment once it is named.
Who is the therapist?
Our Indiana-licensed therapist, who sees Indiana clients statewide by secure video. You keep the same therapist week to week.
What happens in the first session?
An intake - what brought you in, your history, what you want to change, and 0-to-10 ratings of what you are feeling, which become your baseline.
How soon can I start, and what does it cost?
We are accepting new clients and respond within one business day. In-network, you pay your copay or coinsurance, with any unmet deductible first. We give you the number in advance.
