Every clinician state-licensed

Why MindView

Most therapy in the Bronx has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in the Bronx deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

A therapy skill you can only use in a quiet room is not much use in the Bronx; the moments that need skills here happen on a packed platform, a stalled train, a bus that did not come.

MindView Therapy provides DBT-informed individual therapy for adults in the Bronx, by telehealth throughout New York. Our nearest office is in Jamaica, Queens, and sessions happen wherever in New York your day puts you.

What DBT actually is

Four modules, built for use in motion. Mindfulness catches the surge early enough to matter. Distress tolerance carries you through the worst minutes without making them worse. Emotion regulation works over weeks to shrink the surges themselves. Interpersonal effectiveness covers the asks, refusals and repairs that intensity keeps sabotaging.

Said plainly for format honesty: this is individual DBT, the skills taught one-on-one. No skills group, no phone coaching, and no ambiguity about either.

What a session involves

You name the recurring hard minutes of your actual week, and most people here can name them precisely, then each session slows one down: the trigger, the surge, the move, the cost. The skill that fits the moment gets taught and assigned to it specifically, practiced during the real week, and reviewed at the next session. Skills tied to named moments stick; skills taught in the abstract evaporate on the first bad morning.

The container is MindView’s standard course: intake with baseline ratings, then your full history and a collaborative treatment plan, weekly sessions, standardized measures monthly.

What DBT is used for

Anger that arrives before judgment, spiking anxiety, relationship conflict that repeats itself, reactions regretted an hour later. The method was developed for one population and its skills were never limited to it. No diagnosis is required to start.

Who provides it

DBT at MindView is delivered by Nirja Mistry, who brings DBT and CBT techniques together inside a relational, psychodynamically informed practice, seeing adults across New York by telehealth. One clinician, named on the page, is the honest shape of the offer, and it means you know who you are booking before you book.

DBT in the Bronx

The commute is the practice ground. 52.4% of Bronx workers get to work by public transportation (US Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates, table B08006), the highest share of the boroughs we serve, and the ride holds the day’s hardest unstructured minutes: the platform crush, the train that stops between stations and stays there, the bus that never came, on the day you could least absorb it.

So this page offers a concrete example rather than a slogan, the stalled-train protocol, a worked instance of distress tolerance: notice the surge and call it what it is, name the feeling in one word, cool the body with slow exhales longer than the inhales, then choose the next action instead of inheriting it from the surge. Sixty seconds, no quiet room required. In treatment, sequences like that get assigned to your specific rides and reviewed weekly until they run on their own. More at our Bronx page.

Insurance

DBT-informed individual therapy is billed under standard psychotherapy codes; there is no separate DBT rate. We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. We check your plan before the first session and tell you what you will pay.

Questions people ask before booking

My worst moments happen on the train, not at home. How does therapy reach that? Skills get assigned to those exact minutes and reviewed weekly. The ride is the practice ground, and the protocol above is the kind of thing you would actually take onto it.

Is this anger management? It covers that ground and more. Anger is treated as one output of emotion intensity, and the whole system gets worked, not just the loudest symptom.

Who would I see? Nirja Mistry. One named clinician is the accurate picture of DBT here.

Is this a full DBT program? No. Individual DBT, with the skills taught one-on-one. No group and no phone coaching.

I work in Manhattan but live in the Bronx. Where do I have to be for sessions? Anywhere in New York State with enough privacy to talk. Home, an office with a door, even a parked car all qualify.

If you are in crisis

We are not a crisis service and we do not provide between-session phone coaching. If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988, any hour, free and confidential. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
