Every clinician state-licensed

Why MindView

Most therapy in Indianapolis has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Indianapolis deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

There is a measurable gap between the surge of a feeling and the thing you do about it, and DBT’s entire project is to widen that gap until a choice fits inside it.

MindView Therapy provides DBT-informed individual therapy for adults (18+) across Indianapolis, by telehealth throughout Indiana.

What DBT actually is

Dialectical behavior therapy teaches four sets of skills, and each can be said in a sentence. Mindfulness is noticing what is happening in you before it decides for you. Distress tolerance is getting through a peak moment without making it worse. Emotion regulation is the slower work of making the peaks smaller and rarer. Interpersonal effectiveness is asking, refusing and repairing without the conversation going up in flames.

One thing said plainly, because most DBT content online describes group programs: in Indiana this is DBT-informed individual therapy. The skills are taught and practiced inside weekly one-on-one video sessions. There is no skills group and no phone coaching here, and we would rather you know the format before you book than after.

What a session involves

You bring the week’s hardest moment and walk it back slowly: what happened, what fired, what you did, what followed. Somewhere in that sequence is a point where a different move was available, and that point gets a skill assigned to it. Then the skill gets rehearsed, in session and out in the week, in the situations where the emotions actually spike, because a skill that has only been discussed is not available at speed.

The structure is MindView’s standard: intake with baseline ratings, then your full history and a collaborative treatment plan, weekly sessions, and standardized measures reviewed monthly.

What DBT is used for

The skills serve people whose emotions arrive faster than their thoughts: anger that outruns intention, reactions regretted an hour later, relationships that swing hard, anxiety that spikes rather than hums, and patterns like emotional overeating that discharge a feeling instead of naming it. No diagnosis is required, and DBT was never limited to any single one.

DBT in Indianapolis

Indianapolis has 23.8% of its residents between 20 and 34 (US Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates, table B01001), the years when emotion-regulation patterns either get tools or get consequences, and either way compound. Getting the tools during those years is cheaper in every sense, and the individual format suits a first serious pass at them: private, paced by you, with nothing performed for a group.

The honest comparison, since you will meet it while searching: the research model of DBT is a full program, group skills training plus individual therapy plus phone coaching. What we offer in Indiana is the individual component, DBT-informed and structured. For many people working on reactivity, anger and relationship swings, that is a strong fit. Someone in frequent crisis may need the fuller structure, and if intake suggests that, your therapist will say so directly rather than keep you in the wrong level of care. More at our Indianapolis page, with our Indiana office in Carmel, IN.

Insurance

DBT-informed individual therapy is billed under standard psychotherapy codes; there is no separate DBT rate. In Indiana we are in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna and Aetna. We check your plan before the first session and tell you what you will pay.

Questions people ask before booking

Is this a full DBT program with a skills group? No. It is DBT-informed individual therapy, the skills taught one-on-one. We say that plainly because the distinction matters and you deserve it before booking.

I heard DBT needs phone coaching. What happens between sessions here? Between-session practice is planned in session, and there is no phone coaching. Crisis support is 988 or 911, and that boundary is stated clearly at intake.

Is DBT only for borderline personality disorder? No. The skills serve intense emotions, anger, impulsive reactions and stormy relationships broadly, and no diagnosis is required to start.

Does insurance cover it? Yes, it is billed like any standard psychotherapy session. In Indiana we are in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna and Aetna, verified before the first session.

How long does it take? Skills build cumulatively over a course of weekly sessions. The pace is reviewed with monthly measures rather than promised up front.

If you are in crisis

We are not a crisis service and there is no between-session phone coaching, so this matters here. If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988, any hour, free and confidential. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
