Every clinician state-licensed

Why MindView

Most therapy in Manhattan has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Manhattan deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Manhattan careers select for people who can override their emotions for twelve hours, and the bill for all that overriding tends to arrive after hours, at home, with interest.

MindView Therapy provides DBT-informed individual therapy for adults in Manhattan, by telehealth throughout New York. Our nearest office is in Jamaica, Queens.

What DBT actually is

Start with a distinction this borough needs: override is not regulation. Override is the professional skill of proceeding as if the feeling were not happening, and it works, which is why it gets promoted. Regulation is the different skill of actually changing the feeling’s course, and nobody’s job ever taught it.

DBT teaches it in four modules. Mindfulness notices the emotion while it is still data. Distress tolerance survives the spike without damage. Emotion regulation lowers the baseline the spikes launch from. Interpersonal effectiveness handles asking, refusing and repairing, at home, where the override never worked anyway. Format honesty: this is individual DBT, skills taught one-on-one, no group and no phone coaching.

What a session involves

One moment from the week, slowed down: what fired, what got overridden or obeyed, what it cost. The point where a skill would have changed the outcome becomes the target, the skill gets rehearsed, and the week practices it in the settings that actually spike, which for the override professional are mostly after 7pm.

The container is MindView’s standard course: intake with baseline ratings, then your full history and a collaborative treatment plan, weekly sessions, standardized measures monthly.

What DBT is used for

Intense emotions and their costs: anger that only home ever sees, spiking anxiety, relationship conflict driven by one person’s intensity, and the crash cycles that follow contained days. Developed for one population, never limited to it; no diagnosis required. The internal costs count fully, the flooding, the spirals, the flatness, whether or not anything ever shows.

Who provides it

DBT at MindView is delivered by one clinician, named: Nirja Mistry, who works DBT and CBT techniques into a relational, psychodynamically informed practice and sees adults across New York by telehealth. One name is the accurate picture. There is no DBT department implied here, and the person on this page is the person in your sessions.

DBT across Manhattan

The after-hours bill is specific and worth itemizing. The snap at the person you like most, ninety seconds after walking in. The 11pm spiral over a two-line email. The weekend flatness that follows a contained week. None of it is mysterious: twelve hours of override spends the regulatory budget, and the evening inherits whatever is left, which is often nothing.

The skills map onto that arc directly, a regulation move made upstream at 3pm instead of a blowup at 8, a distress-tolerance hold for the commute-home spike, an interpersonal repair that does not reopen the case. The reframe matters: this is an upgrade to an existing competence, not remediation for a missing one. And the logistics cooperate here like nowhere else in the city: 25.5% of Manhattan workers work from home (US Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates, table B08006), the highest share of the boroughs we serve, which makes the midday home-office session an ordinary fixture rather than a special request. More at our Manhattan page.

Insurance

DBT-informed individual therapy is billed under standard psychotherapy codes; there is no separate DBT rate. We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. We check your plan before the first session and tell you what you will pay.

Questions people ask before booking

I hold it together perfectly at work. Doesn’t that mean I already have these skills? You have one of them, override, at a professional grade. Regulation is a different skill, and it is the one that works after 7pm.

Can sessions fit a midday gap between meetings? Yes. The home-office midday hour is the most common session shape here.

Is this a full DBT program? No. Individual DBT with one clinician, skills taught one-on-one. No group, no phone coaching, stated plainly.

Who would I see? Nirja Mistry. One named clinician, so you know exactly who before you book.

Is DBT only for borderline personality disorder? No. Intense emotions and their costs are the territory, and no diagnosis is required to start.

If you are in crisis

We are not a crisis service and we do not provide between-session phone coaching. If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988, any hour, free and confidential. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
