Nobody’s emotion regulation is tested at brunch; it is tested at 6:40pm on a Tuesday, mid-homework, mid-dinner, mid-negotiation with a nine-year-old lawyer.
MindView Therapy provides DBT-informed individual therapy for adults (18+) in Fishers, by telehealth throughout Indiana.
What DBT actually is
DBT teaches four named skill sets. Mindfulness is catching the rise while it is still information. Distress tolerance is lasting through the worst ten minutes without adding damage. Emotion regulation is the longer project of turning the volume down at the source. Interpersonal effectiveness is making requests, holding lines and repairing ruptures with the people who matter most, which is harder than doing it with strangers.
Format honesty, before anything else: in Indiana this is DBT-informed individual therapy. Skills are taught and practiced in one-on-one sessions. There is no skills group and no phone coaching.
What a session involves
DBT works best on named, recurring moments, so the first job of the course is mapping yours by name. Then each week, one flashpoint gets slowed down and examined: what fired, what you did, where a skill could have fit. The skill gets assigned to that specific moment, practiced in the real evenings between sessions, and reviewed the following week. It is deliberate, incremental and cumulative, and it treats a chaotic evening as solvable material rather than a verdict on anyone’s character.
The frame is MindView’s standard: intake with baseline ratings, then your full history and a collaborative treatment plan, weekly sessions, and standardized measures reviewed monthly, so the course answers to data rather than to the most recent evening.
What DBT is used for
Intense emotions and their downstream costs: anger at the people you love most, reactions regretted immediately, recurring relationship conflict, spiking anxiety, and discharge patterns like emotional overeating. No diagnosis required; the skills never carried that entry bar. Plenty of people who come to this work are excellent under pressure everywhere except one hallway of their own house.
DBT in Fishers
Family evenings supply the flashpoints DBT maps best: the homework standoff, the bedtime negotiation that turns litigious, the partner’s tone at the end of everyone’s longest hour, heard through a nervous system that already spent the day. With a mean travel time to work of 26.7 minutes here (US Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates), the drive home is the only buffer between work-mode and family-mode, and it is rarely enough on the days that need it most. Skills get assigned to specific named flashpoints, and the sessions review the tape weekly. This is individual adult work; the family feels the difference without ever attending.
One skill deserves its own paragraph because nobody lists it: repair. What separates households over time is less the blowup than the hour after it, and going back, owning the moment plainly, and re-entering without re-litigating is a learnable move from the interpersonal module, usable this week. No parenting outcomes promised; this is an adult skill that happens to be practiced in a family house. More at our Fishers page, with our Indiana office in Carmel, IN.

Questions people ask before booking
Evenings are the problem and evenings are when I would need sessions. How does that work? A midday or early slot works for many people here, especially on work-from-home days, and the skills deploy in the evenings regardless of when the session sits.
Should my spouse and I do couples therapy instead? Different tools for different drivers. If your own intensity is the engine, individual skills work comes first or alongside; see couples therapy for the relationship’s own work.
Is this a full DBT program? No. DBT-informed individual therapy, with skills taught one-on-one. No group, no phone coaching.
Will I learn actual techniques or just talk? Named skills from the four modules, practiced between sessions and reviewed weekly. The talking exists to aim the practice.
Is it covered? Yes, under standard psychotherapy codes. In Indiana we are in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna and Aetna.
