Does MindView take Cigna in Buffalo?
Yes. MindView Therapy is in-network with Cigna at our downtown Buffalo office, and by telehealth throughout New York State.
Because we are in-network, Cigna has a negotiated rate with us. You pay your copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee, and you are not billed the difference.
Why does my Cigna card say Evernorth?
Cigna’s behavioral health benefits are administered by Evernorth Behavioral Health, Cigna’s health services company. It is the same coverage. The behavioral health network, the provider directory, and the claims for your therapy sessions all sit on the Evernorth side.
This trips people up when they call the number on the front of the card and get routed. If you are checking coverage yourself, look for the behavioral health or mental health number on the back of the card. Or skip it and let us verify for you.
Do I need a referral or prior authorization?
Generally no. On most Cigna plans you can self-refer to an in-network behavioral health provider for outpatient therapy. No primary care sign-off, no prior authorization for routine weekly sessions.
Higher levels of care, such as intensive outpatient or inpatient treatment, are a different story and often do require review. Standard outpatient therapy usually does not. We check your specific plan before your first session so nothing is assumed.
What will I actually pay?
That depends on your Cigna plan, and we will not guess at it.
Most members pay a copay per session. Others have coinsurance, a percentage of the negotiated rate. Some plans apply a deductible first, so you pay the negotiated rate until it is met.
Many Cigna cards belong to self-funded employer plans that rent the Cigna network, and those employers set their own benefit design. We verify your benefits and tell you the number before your first session.
Where is the Buffalo office?
Our Buffalo office is at 369 Washington Street, 1st Floor, Suite 110, Buffalo, NY 14203.
It is downtown and serves clients across Buffalo and Western New York, including Elmwood Village, North Buffalo, Allentown, Amherst, Cheektowaga, and Tonawanda. Telehealth is available anywhere in New York, which matters in a city where winter decides your commute.
What does therapy here involve?
The structure is the same for every client, so you always know what is next.
The first session is an intake: what brought you in, your history, what you want to change. The second is a psychosocial assessment, a fuller picture of your life across relationships, work, health, and history. In the third session you and your therapist build the treatment plan together, with goals tied to what you came in for and one personal goal that matters to you.
Then sessions are weekly. Once a month you complete standardized measures, such as the PHQ-9 and GAD-7, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If the data says the plan is not working, the plan changes.

What Cigna covers here
- •Cigna's behavioral health network is run by Evernorth Behavioral Health, Cigna's health services arm. Your therapy claims are processed on that side of the house even though the card says Cigna.
- •Outpatient therapy with an in-network provider generally does not require a referral or a prior authorization on Cigna plans.
- •Because we are in-network, you owe your plan's copay, coinsurance, or remaining deductible rather than the full session rate.
- •Cigna has covered virtual behavioral health visits at parity with in-office visits on most plans. We confirm this for your plan.
- •Many Cigna cards belong to self-funded employer plans that use the Cigna network. Benefits on those can differ from a standard commercial plan, so we verify before you owe anything.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Session 1: Intake
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Session 2: Psychosocial
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Session 3: Treatment plan
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a Psycho-Measurement-Based Care Review (PMBCR). You complete standardized measures, such as the PHQ-9 and GAD-7, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.
