Why MindView
Most therapy in Sherrill has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Cigna. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Cigna in Sherrill, in short
MindView Therapy is in-network with Cigna and sees Sherrill adults by secure video across New York State. Oneida County sits inside the 28-county network that carries New York-situs Cigna group business, so a Cigna card here can be an ordinary New York employer plan or a national self-funded one, and the two carry different rights. We confirm which you hold and give you the per-session cost before booking.
Finance and insurance is a substantial employer in Oneida County, 4,410 private jobs across 247 establishments. It is also an industry where people already know that two policies can share a logo and share almost nothing else, which is exactly the situation with Cigna here. Oneida sits inside the network carrying New York-situs group business, so a card in Sherrill could be either kind of plan.
Two very different things can both be called Cigna
MindView is in-network with Cigna, and Sherrill adults are seen by secure video anywhere in New York State. Oneida County sits inside the 28-county group that carries New York-situs Cigna business, which is not true of every upstate county, so a Cigna card mailed to a Sherrill address is genuinely more likely to sit on an ordinary state-regulated group plan than a card issued a couple of counties away.
That is one of two things a Cigna card here can be. The other is a national self-funded plan: an employer designs the benefit and pays the claims itself, Cigna administers the plan and lends its provider network, and the result never becomes a New York-regulated product even though the logo and the directory look identical from the member’s side.
Same name on the front of the card, same clinicians available through it in practice, and two different sets of rights sitting underneath. Which one you hold decides what New York law can and cannot require your plan to do, and it is worth sorting out before a first session rather than after a bill does not match what you expected.
Neither route is better or worse as a description of the coverage itself, and this is not a case for preferring one over the other. It matters only because the two answer differently to a question you might reasonably ask later, like whether a state parity rule applies to your therapy copay. Knowing which route you’re on ahead of time means that question already has an answer.
How to tell which one you have
Start with your plan’s summary of benefits and coverage, the document your employer’s benefits portal usually has posted alongside open enrollment materials. It is written to state plainly whether the plan is insured or self-funded, and that single word is the answer to this whole question.
If the document is not on hand or does not say, the more reliable move is asking your employer’s benefits contact directly: is this plan insured through New York, or is it self-funded by the company. That is a different question than asking what network you’re on, and it gets a cleaner answer, because a benefits administrator usually knows the funding structure even when the everyday paperwork does not spell it out.
Neither step is required before you book. If the answer is not clear to you when you call, we work it out as part of the same verification where we check your specific benefit, and you will have it settled before your first session either way.
Some cards carry a hint of their own. A group or policy number printed near the member ID sometimes includes a short code your employer’s benefits team can read even when you cannot, and it is worth having the card in hand if you do call to ask. None of this is something you need to decode alone before booking; it is only useful if you happen to already have the card out.
What you owe per session
Three terms cover most of what a Cigna plan can ask you to pay. A copay is a flat amount due at each visit. Coinsurance is a percentage of the allowed session cost you owe after any deductible is met. A deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket before the plan’s cost sharing starts at all. Your employer’s specific plan design decides which of these applies to you, not the fact that the card says Cigna.
New York requires that on a state-regulated plan, a therapy copay cannot run higher than the copay set for a primary care visit, one of the state’s mental health parity protections. That protection follows the policy, so it applies to the insured route described above and does not reach a plan a company self-funds, where federal rules set the terms instead.
Because the two routes land on different rules, and because a self-funded employer can set its cost sharing however it chooses within federal limits, no single number describes what every Sherrill member owes. We check your specific plan, confirm which route it takes, and give you the per-session figure before anything is scheduled.
A deductible, where one applies, resets on whatever date your employer’s plan year begins, which is not always January 1. If you have already met it through other medical costs earlier in the year, only the coinsurance percentage may apply to a session from that point forward, with no further deductible amount added on top. That is one more reason the number is worth checking rather than assuming from a prior year or a different job.
When there is no reason you can point to
Oneida County’s finance and insurance sector carries 4,410 private jobs across 247 establishments, work that mostly happens at a desk, on a fixed schedule, with steady pay attached. A job shaped like that rarely hands a person a clean line to say out loud to a coworker or a partner: no layoff, no sudden change, nothing anyone else would immediately recognize as a reason. What it can produce instead is a slower kind of wear: a spreadsheet that gets harder to open on a Sunday night, the same competent week repeating itself with less and less feeling attached to it, a low steady flatness that has no single event behind it.
What that kind of steady office week can produce instead is worry with no obvious trigger attached, sleep that gets thinner without an event behind it, and a low exhaustion that does not match how uneventful the day actually was. None of that is the stated reason someone finally books a first session, and it doesn’t need to be: it shows up in an intake once a person starts talking, even though nobody asked about it directly, and it is a completely legitimate thing to bring into that first session.
None of this is a diagnosis, and it says nothing about any one household’s income; an average pay figure for a sector describes the sector, not a paycheck. It is not a characterization of finance and insurance work either, only an account of what a steady, outwardly fine office job can and cannot explain. What it supports is narrower and simpler: not having a reason you could say out loud is not evidence that nothing is going on, and it is not a requirement for booking.
An intake does not open by asking what happened to you. It opens by asking what you are noticing now, this week, in ordinary terms, and builds from there. That is deliberate: plenty of people who eventually book spent months deciding whether their situation counted as bad enough first, and the honest answer is that a session does not require you to clear that bar before it starts.
Who books here
Adults across Sherrill book for anxiety, depression, high-functioning depression, everyday stress management, and low self-esteem. Some arrive with a specific event behind the decision. Plenty arrive the other way, with a general sense that things have gotten harder to carry and no single incident to explain it, and both are equally reasonable reasons to book a first session.
MindView has no office in Sherrill, and every session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York. See the Sherrill location page for the full list of plans covered here, part of our statewide New York coverage. You do not need a diagnosis ready, and you do not need to have identified a cause before your first appointment.
From here to a first session
Have your Cigna card ready. If you already know whether your plan is insured through New York or self-funded, mention it when you book, and if you don’t, that’s fine too. Book online; it takes about 30 seconds.
Before your first session, we verify the benefit, confirm which type of plan you hold, and tell you the per-session cost so nothing about the bill is a surprise later. The first session itself is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, whatever background matters to it, and what you’d want different, along with a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. From there you set a recurring weekly time.
What Cigna covers here
- •You pay your plan's copay, coinsurance, or remaining deductible instead of the full session fee. You are never billed the difference.
- •Oneida County sits inside the 28-county network that carries New York-situs Cigna group business, so a Sherrill card can be a state-regulated plan rather than only a national one.
- •A Cigna card can also belong to a national self-funded plan, where the employer designs the benefit and pays claims, and Cigna administers it and lends its network.
- •New York's therapy copay parity rule applies to state-regulated plans; it does not reach coverage a company self-funds under federal rules.
- •Which rule set applies to you depends on your specific plan, not on the name printed on the card, so we confirm it during verification.

Your first session is an intake, by secure video from anywhere in New York State.
What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.
Use your Cigna benefits and get started.

Cigna questions
Is my Cigna plan a New York plan?
It can be. Oneida County sits inside the 28-county network that carries New York-situs Cigna group business, so a Sherrill card is genuinely more likely to sit on a state-regulated plan than a card issued outside that network. It can also be a national self-funded plan administered by Cigna. We confirm which one applies to you as part of verification.
How do I tell which kind of Cigna plan I have?
Start with your plan's summary of benefits and coverage, which usually states whether the plan is insured or self-funded. If it does not say plainly, ask your employer's benefits contact that exact question, insured or self-funded, rather than asking what network you're on. If the answer still is not clear when you book, we settle it during the same call where we check your benefit.
Does the New York therapy copay rule apply to me?
If your plan is insured and regulated under New York law, yes, your therapy copay cannot exceed your primary care copay under that plan. That rule does not reach a plan your employer self-funds, since federal rules generally set the terms there instead. We tell you which situation you're in before you book.
Nothing in my life explains why I feel like this. Does that make therapy the wrong fit?
No. Plenty of people start without a single event they could point to, and going a long time without one is itself one of the most common reasons people put off a first session. An intake starts from what you're actually noticing day to day, not from a justification you have to have ready first.
Does MindView have a Sherrill office?
No. Every Sherrill session is by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, from anywhere in the state. Our nearest offices are in Queens, Buffalo, and Carmel, and each is an office rather than a place clients are seen in person.
