Why MindView
Most therapy in Schenectady has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Cigna. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Cigna in Schenectady, in short
MindView Therapy is in-network with Cigna and sees Schenectady clients by secure video anywhere in New York State. On a Cigna card the behavioral benefit is administered separately from medical, which is why checking behavioral health specifically matters. We verify yours before the first session, we have no Schenectady office, and we are accepting new clients.
The single most useful thing to know about Cigna and therapy is that your medical network and your behavioral network are not the same list. A practice can be in-network for a physical and out-of-network for a therapy hour on the same card. Here is how that works, what it costs, and what a Capital Region schedule does to a weekly appointment.
Is MindView in-network with Cigna in Schenectady?
Yes, on the behavioral side, which is the side that matters for therapy. Schenectady clients are seen by secure video anywhere in New York State.
Two networks, one card
Here is the Cigna fact that costs people money because almost nobody explains it in advance.
Your therapy benefit does not run on the same network as your medical care. Cigna administers behavioral health through Evernorth, its own health services business, and that network is a separate list of providers. So a practice can be perfectly in-network when you go in for a physical and out-of-network the moment the claim is a therapy hour.
This is why “my doctor takes Cigna” tells you nothing about a therapist, and why calling Cigna and asking whether a practice is in-network gets you an answer to a question you did not mean to ask. Ask about behavioral health specifically. It is a different lookup on their end.
We are in-network on the behavioral side. We still verify your particular plan before you book, because being in-network settles who pays and your plan design settles how much.
Which number on your card is the right one
Pull out the card. Most Cigna cards print several copays: primary care, specialist, urgent care, emergency, and often a separate line for behavioral or mental health.
That behavioral line is the one that governs a therapy session. People reasonably read across to the specialist copay because a therapist feels like a specialist, and the two numbers are frequently different. If your card has no behavioral line at all, that usually means your plan applies coinsurance after the deductible rather than a flat copay.
Either way you get the actual figure from us before your first appointment.
The deductible question, honestly
A lot of Cigna coverage in this area comes through smaller employers, and those plans lean high-deductible. If that is you, the first stretch of the plan year is the expensive part.
The thing worth knowing is that in-network status still helps you while the deductible is unmet. You pay Cigna’s contracted rate for the session, not our cash rate, and the contracted rate is meaningfully lower. Every session also counts toward a deductible you are likely to reach anyway. Once it is met, you drop to your copay or coinsurance for the rest of the year.
We would rather hand you both numbers and let you decide than have you start and quit over a statement.
What a Capital Region week does to a standing appointment
Schenectady’s working life is not what the old description of the place suggests. Manufacturing employs about 5.5% of employed city residents now, per Census Bureau five-year estimates. The round-the-clock work moved into hospitals, distribution and public-sector coverage, and a good share of the county drives into Albany to do it.
Both patterns break the same thing: a fixed weekly hour in a building. The commuter has already spent the drivable part of the evening getting home. The shift worker has a Tuesday that is free this month and a working hour next month.
Video takes away the part that was never therapy. The session moves within the week without anybody losing a room booking, and it happens from home, from a parked car between shifts, or from a quiet office with the door shut. Consistency is what makes this work, and consistency here means the same count of sessions, not the same slot on the calendar.
Say what your week actually looks like at intake, including the parts that are unpredictable, so the plan is built on the real thing.
No office here
We do not have one in Schenectady or anywhere in the Capital Region. The nearest is Queens, roughly 160 miles south, and nothing about your care requires that address.
Everything runs by video. If sitting in a room with someone is the part that makes therapy work for you, look for a local practice instead. That is a real preference and we are not going to talk you out of it.
Who books, and for what
Adults 18 and older across Schenectady County, from the Stockade, Mont Pleasant, Bellevue and downtown out to Niskayuna, Rotterdam, Glenville, Scotia and Duanesburg.
Usually anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, burnout, grief or couples work. No diagnosis needed to book.
How the work is checked
Studies putting video-delivered CBT next to the in-person version have generally found comparable outcomes for outpatient concerns. That is the honest ceiling on that claim.
The verifiable part is process. Weekly sessions against a treatment plan you help write, then standardized measures once a month that you read alongside your therapist. If the trend has not moved after a fair trial, the plan changes.

What Cigna covers here
- •Cigna administers behavioral health through Evernorth, its own health services arm. That is why in-network status has to be checked on the behavioral side specifically.
- •We bill Cigna directly as an in-network provider. Your share is the copay, coinsurance or unmet deductible, never the gap between our rate and Cigna's.
- •Most Cigna cards print a separate behavioral health copay. That number, not the medical or specialist copay, is the one that applies to a therapy session.
- •New York parity law puts outpatient therapy on comparable footing with medical care. Coverage is settled; the size of your cost share is what varies by employer.
- •Cigna plans sold to smaller Capital Region employers skew toward high-deductible designs, which changes the first few months of the year more than it changes the rest.
How to book with Cigna
- 1
Have the Cigna card for the person who will be the client. In two-plan households this is the single most common cause of a bounced first claim.
- 2
Book through our secure client portal. About 30 seconds, no benefits paperwork first.
- 3
We verify your Cigna behavioral benefit and quote your per-session cost before anything is scheduled.
- 4
Your first appointment is the intake, by video, from wherever you are in New York State.
What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Cigna questions
My doctor is in-network with Cigna. Does that mean therapy is covered too?
Not necessarily, and this is the Cigna detail worth knowing before you book anywhere. Behavioral health runs on its own network administered through Evernorth, so a provider can be in-network for medical care and out-of-network for therapy on the same plan. We are in-network on the behavioral side. When you call Cigna to check any provider, ask about behavioral health specifically rather than about the practice generally.
Which copay on my card applies to a therapy session?
The behavioral health copay, if your card prints one. Cigna cards often list several: primary care, specialist, urgent care, and behavioral. People reasonably assume therapy bills at the specialist rate and it usually does not. If your card shows no behavioral line, that generally means coinsurance after deductible rather than a flat copay, and we confirm which when we verify.
I have a high deductible through a small employer. Is therapy still worth starting now?
Usually yes, and the reason is that in-network sessions bill at Cigna's contracted rate rather than our cash rate even while the deductible is unmet. You pay less per session than an uninsured client would, and every session counts toward the deductible you are going to hit anyway. We give you the contracted number up front so you can decide with real figures.
Do you have an office in Schenectady?
No, and none in the Capital Region. Our nearest office is in Queens, about 160 miles away. Every Schenectady session is by secure video, so there is no local waiting room and no drive attached to the hour.
I work in Albany but live in Schenectady County. Does that complicate anything?
No. What matters legally is the state you are physically in during the session, not where you work or where your employer is headquartered. Anywhere in New York State is fine, which covers a session taken from your desk, your car on a break, or your kitchen. The only real constraint is somewhere you can speak freely for the hour.
