Does MindView take Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York?

Yes. MindView Therapy is in-network with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York at our downtown Buffalo office, and by telehealth throughout New York State.

Because we are in-network, you pay your plan’s copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee. You are not billed the difference.

Is this the same as BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York?

Yes. This is the local Blues plan for the eight counties of Western New York, and it carried the BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York name for decades before Highmark acquired it and rebranded it.

Today it operates as Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York, a trade name of Highmark Western and Northeastern New York Inc., an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, headquartered in Buffalo. If your card still shows the old name, or if you have called it “the Blues” your whole life, you are in the right place.

How is this different from a Highmark card issued elsewhere?

The distinction is where the plan was issued, which decides how your claim travels.

This is the local plan. Your policy was written here, the network is local, and your claims are adjudicated by the Western New York plan directly. That usually makes the benefit check cleaner and faster.

A Highmark card issued in Pennsylvania, Delaware, or West Virginia is a different Highmark plan. Those claims typically route through the Blue Cross Blue Shield BlueCard program, where your home plan still sets your benefit and we bill through the local Blues plan. We accept both. We just verify them differently.

Where is the Buffalo office?

Our office is at 369 Washington Street, 1st Floor, Suite 110, Buffalo, NY 14203, downtown.

We see clients from across Buffalo and Western New York, including Elmwood Village, North Buffalo, Allentown, Amherst, Cheektowaga, and Tonawanda. Telehealth is available anywhere in New York, so you can be seen from home when the drive or the weather makes an office visit hard.

What does therapy here involve?

Every client follows the same structure, so you always know what is next.

The first session is an intake: what brought you in, your history, and what you want to change. The second is a psychosocial assessment, a fuller picture of your life across relationships, work, health, and history. In the third session you and your therapist build your treatment plan together, with goals tied to what you came in for plus one personal goal that matters to you.

From there, sessions are weekly. Once a month you complete standardized measures, such as the PHQ-9 and GAD-7, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If the data says something is not working, the plan changes. Therapy here is measured, not guessed.

How do I get started?

Book online through our secure client portal. It takes about two minutes and is mostly checkboxes. We verify your benefits, tell you the expected cost, and confirm your first appointment.

If you would rather talk to a person first, call (646) 493-4007. We respond within one business day.

What Highmark BCBS WNY covers here

  • Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York is the local Blue Cross Blue Shield plan for the eight counties of Western New York. It was BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York before Highmark acquired it, and many members still have the older name in mind.
  • It is operated by Highmark Western and Northeastern New York Inc., an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, headquartered in Buffalo.
  • Because the plan is issued locally, your claims are processed by the local plan rather than routed through the BlueCard program, which usually means fewer surprises on the benefit check.
  • Because we are in-network, you owe your plan's copay, coinsurance, or remaining deductible rather than the full session rate.
  • The plan offers commercial, marketplace, and Medicare products. Benefit design and referral rules vary between them, so we verify your specific product before your first session.

What does therapy here actually look like?

The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.

  1. Session 1: Intake

Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.

  2. Session 2: Psychosocial

Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.

  3. Session 3: Treatment plan

You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.

  4. Ongoing

Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.

Therapy here is measured, not guessed

Once a month you have a Psycho-Measurement-Based Care Review (PMBCR). You complete standardized measures, such as the PHQ-9 and GAD-7, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.

Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

Highmark BCBS WNY questions

Is MindView Therapy in-network with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York?

Yes. We are in-network at our Buffalo office at 369 Washington Street, and for telehealth across New York State.

My card says BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York. Is that the same plan?

Yes. The Western New York Blues plan was rebranded as Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York after Highmark acquired it. Older cards and the older name refer to the same plan.

How is this different from a Highmark card issued in Pennsylvania?

This is the local Western New York plan, so claims are handled locally. A Highmark card issued in another state is typically processed through the Blue Cross Blue Shield BlueCard program instead. Both are accepted at our Buffalo office.

Do I need a referral to see a therapist?

Most commercial products do not require a referral for in-network outpatient behavioral health. Some HMO and Medicare products differ. We check your specific product when we verify benefits.

What will therapy cost me?

You pay your plan's copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee, and any unmet deductible may apply first. Costs vary by plan, so we verify your benefits and tell you the number before your first session.

Does the plan cover telehealth therapy in New York?

Behavioral telehealth is covered on most products at the same benefit level as an in-office visit. We confirm this for your specific plan.
