Why MindView
Most therapy in Binghamton has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take Cigna. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Cigna in Binghamton, in short
MindView Therapy is in-network with Cigna and sees Binghamton clients by secure video anywhere in New York State. Cigna administers therapy through a behavioral network separate from its medical network, so in-network status has to be checked on that side specifically. We verify your plan before the first session. We have no Broome County office and we are accepting new clients.
Two things decide whether this works for you. One is a Cigna technicality about which network your therapy claim runs through. The other, if you are here for a degree, is which state you will physically be in over the summer. Both are worth two minutes now rather than a surprise later.
Does MindView take Cigna in Binghamton?
Yes. We are in-network with Cigna on the behavioral side and see Binghamton clients by secure video anywhere in New York State.
Cigna splits medical and behavioral, and only one of them matters here
This is the part worth two minutes because it is where people lose money.
Cigna does not run therapy on the same network as your medical care. Behavioral health is administered through Evernorth, and that is a separate provider list. The practical result is that a provider can be in-network when the claim is a physical and out-of-network when the claim is a therapy hour, on one unchanged card.
So “my doctor takes Cigna” is not evidence about a therapist, and calling Cigna to ask whether a practice is in-network gets you an answer about medical unless you specify. Ask about behavioral health. It is a different lookup.
We are in-network on that side. We verify your particular plan anyway, because in-network settles who pays and plan design settles how much.
Students: the state line, not the semester
If you are here for a degree, this is the paragraph that matters most, and almost nobody tells you before you book.
A therapy license follows the place your body is sitting during the session. Not where you live, not where your parents’ plan was issued, not where the practice has an address. Our clinicians hold New York licenses. That means sessions continue anywhere in New York State, including over winter break if you stay, and it means a summer at home in New Jersey or Pennsylvania is a pause rather than a continuation.
The insurance side is usually the easy part. A dependent on a parent’s Cigna plan is typically covered on the plan’s network wherever they are. It is the license that draws the line, not the card.
None of this is a barrier if you plan for it. Give us your term dates at intake and the treatment plan gets built with the break in it. What causes damage is starting in October, going home in May, and quietly disappearing mid-course.
The other Binghamton
Roughly 16.2% of city residents are aged 20 to 24 by Census Bureau five-year estimates, a concentration that exists because of the university and thins out every summer. That is one caseload.
The other has been here much longer and has watched the place contract. Binghamton held 80,674 people in 1950 and holds about 47,151 now, a drop of more than 40%. Endicott is where IBM started and the shape of what left is still legible in the storefronts and the housing stock.
The clinical difference is real. A first-time twenty-year-old is usually trying to work out whether what they are dealing with even counts as bad enough to bring to anyone. Someone forty years in is usually trying to deal with something they can name precisely and have carried for a long time. Those are different pieces of work at different speeds, and neither one is the standard case, so we do not run a standard plan.
What you will pay
Pull out the card and look for a behavioral or mental health copay. That line governs a therapy session. It is frequently a different number from the specialist copay people assume applies, and if there is no behavioral line at all, the plan usually runs coinsurance after the deductible instead.
If your deductible is unmet, in-network still helps: you pay Cigna’s contracted rate rather than our cash rate, and every session counts toward the deductible. You get your actual figure from us before the first appointment.
No Broome County office
We do not have one, here or anywhere in the Southern Tier. Our nearest is in Queens. Every session is by secure video.
What you need is a device with a camera and somewhere you can talk freely for the hour. In a shared apartment or a dorm that is worth thinking about in advance, and it is a fair thing to raise at intake.
Who we work with
Adults 18 and older across Broome County: downtown, the West Side and North Side, plus Vestal, Johnson City, Endicott, Endwell, Chenango Bridge, Conklin and Apalachin.
People book for anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, burnout, grief and relationship strain. No diagnosis required and no need to have the problem worded well first.
Does video therapy hold up?
Research comparing video-delivered CBT with the in-person version has generally found comparable outcomes for outpatient concerns. That is as far as the evidence goes and as far as we will take it.
Our own method is the auditable part. Weekly sessions against a treatment plan written in your words, then standardized measures monthly that you read with your therapist. A flat trend after a fair trial means the plan changes.
Outpatient video care does not suit every situation. You hear that at intake if yours is one.

What Cigna covers here
- •Cigna administers behavioral health through Evernorth. A provider can be in-network for medical care and out-of-network for therapy on the same card, which is why we say behavioral specifically.
- •We are in-network on the behavioral side and bill Cigna directly. You owe the copay, coinsurance or unmet deductible and never the difference.
- •Most Cigna cards print a separate behavioral or mental health copay. That line governs a therapy session, not the specialist copay.
- •New York parity law makes outpatient therapy a covered benefit on commercial plans. What varies by employer is the size of your share.
- •A student on a parent's Cigna plan is generally covered anywhere in the plan's network, but the clinical license is what limits us, not the insurance. Our clinicians are licensed in New York only.
How to book with Cigna
- 1
Have the Cigna card for the person attending sessions. If you are on a parent's plan, that card is usually in their name and you still need the member ID from it.
- 2
Book through our secure client portal. About 30 seconds.
- 3
We verify the behavioral benefit and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled.
- 4
If you are a student, give us your term dates at intake so the plan is built around breaks instead of interrupted by them.
What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.
Use your Cigna benefits and get started.

Cigna questions
I am a Binghamton University student on my parents' Cigna plan. Can I see you?
Yes, while you are physically in New York State. The insurance usually travels fine. The clinical license does not. Our clinicians are licensed in New York, and a therapy license follows where your body is during the session, not where you live or where the plan was issued. So sessions continue over a break anywhere in New York, and a summer at home in New Jersey or Pennsylvania means pausing rather than continuing. Tell us your term dates at intake and we plan around them.
My parent's doctor takes Cigna. Does that mean therapy is covered?
Not on its own. Cigna runs behavioral health through Evernorth, a separate network from medical. A practice can be in-network for a physical and out-of-network for a therapy hour on the same plan. We are in-network on the behavioral side. When checking any provider with Cigna, ask about behavioral health specifically or you will get an answer about the wrong network.
Which copay applies to therapy on a Cigna card?
The behavioral or mental health copay if your card prints one. It is often a different number from the specialist copay that people assume applies. If there is no behavioral line, the plan usually applies coinsurance after the deductible instead. We confirm which when we verify your benefits.
Do you have an office in Binghamton or Vestal?
No. Nothing in Broome County and nothing in the Southern Tier. Our nearest office is in Queens. Every session here is by secure video, which for a student generally means from a dorm room or an apartment rather than walking somewhere.
I have lived here forty years, not four. Is this set up for students only?
No. Roughly a third of what we see in Binghamton is people who have been here decades, and it is different work. A twenty-year-old is usually trying to name something for the first time. Someone who has watched the place change for forty years is usually trying to deal with something they can name perfectly well and have carried a long time. That is slower work and we plan it differently.
