Why MindView

Most Couples therapy in Fishers has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Fishers deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

The hardest part of couples therapy for most Fishers couples is not the therapy. It is finding one hour when two adults with two jobs, a drive to Indianapolis and back, and a school-night schedule are in the same room, awake, and not already annoyed about the logistics of getting there. That single scheduling problem ends more attempts at couples work than any disagreement about whether to go.

MindView Therapy provides couples therapy for adults across Fishers entirely by secure video, in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna, and Aetna. Both partners join the same session, from the same couch or from two different places, as long as both of you are physically in Indiana.

The problem is usually the pattern, not the topic

Couples arrive with a topic: money, in-laws, the phone, the division of everything, how often you have sex, whose career flexes when a kid is sick. The topic is real. It is almost never the actual problem.

The actual problem is the sequence the two of you run when the topic comes up, and it is usually one of a small number of patterns. One of you presses for resolution and the other goes quiet to avoid making it worse, which reads as stonewalling to the presser and as self-protection to the quiet one, and each response makes the other one stronger. Or you both go silent and call the resulting peace agreement a marriage. Or the argument is settled every time and none of it changes, because the settlement was about the dishes and the injury was about being taken for granted.

Couples therapy that only refereed the topics would be a waste of your copay. The work targets the sequence, so that a disagreement about the calendar stops turning into a referendum on the relationship. Read more about how our couples therapy works.

What we actually do in session

Your therapist draws on emotionally focused therapy, which works on the attachment fears sitting underneath the surface fight, family and marital therapy for structure and roles, and cognitive behavioral therapy for the concrete skills: how to raise something without a prosecution opening, how to hear a complaint without treating it as a verdict, how to stop a conversation that has crossed from useful into destructive and restart it later rather than finishing it badly at midnight.

Sessions are deliberately balanced. A recurring fear, usually from whichever partner did not push to book, is that couples therapy is a two-against-one where a stranger confirms that you are the problem. That is not how this runs. If it starts to feel that way, say so in the room, because that is exactly the kind of thing the format is built to correct.

We also work with communication issues, couples conflict resolution, infidelity, premarital counseling, and relationship struggles more broadly. If you are married and prefer that framing, marriage counseling is the same clinician doing the same work, and you will never be told you came in the wrong door.

Why video is the format that survives a real Fishers week

Every Indiana session at MindView is by secure video, and for couples specifically this is the feature rather than the compromise.

Two people means two schedules and twice the friction. Telehealth cuts the appointment down to the hour itself. It also solves a problem that a fixed appointment location simply cannot: when one of you is traveling for work, or one is still at an office in Indianapolis and the other is home with the kids, you can both join from where you are and keep the week’s session instead of losing it. Continuity matters in couples work, because the gap between sessions is where the practice happens and a month-long lapse resets the progress.

One practical note that is easy to get wrong: for a session where you are in the same house, sit in the same room where possible, with one device rather than two, and arrange it so that the kids are genuinely occupied. The hour works considerably better when neither of you is half-listening for footsteps. Sessions reach anywhere in Fishers and the surrounding area, including Geist, the Nickel Plate District, Saxony, Fall Creek, Fortville, and McCordsville. More on our Fishers page.

We measure this too

Couples work is unusually prone to running on impressions, where both of you leave a session feeling something happened and nobody can say whether the relationship is actually different. Progress is reviewed against goals you set together, using standardized measures. Concrete goals work better than “communicate better”: fewer repeat arguments, a hard conversation that lands without a two-day freeze afterward, one evening a week that belongs to the two of you.

Fishers is a town of established households, which shapes what shows up in session. 74.1% of households here are family households and 76.2% of housing units are owner-occupied, both among the highest shares we serve (US Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates, tables B11001 and B25003). Couples in that situation rarely arrive in crisis. They arrive having become extremely competent co-managers of a mortgage, a calendar and a couple of kids, wondering when the two of them last had a conversation that was not logistics.

What to expect at the start

Both of you are in the room from the start. The early work establishes what brought you in, how the pattern runs, what each of you wants from this, and where the sequence between you came from, since it usually has roots on both sides.

From there the plan and the goals are built together, sessions run weekly, and you get something specific to try in between, because the changes happen in your kitchen and not in the appointment.

Fishers makes one part of this easier than most places. 96.3% of households here hold a broadband subscription (US Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates, table B28002), so a weekday evening session from your own living room is genuinely practical rather than a compromise.

In-network with the major Indiana plans

Coverage for couples work varies by plan more than coverage for individual therapy does, which is exactly why we verify your benefits and quote your actual cost before the first session rather than after it.

Who you will work with

Indiana clients work with our Indiana-licensed therapist. Both partners need to be physically in Indiana during the session, because licensure follows location.

Questions couples ask before booking

One of us is much more into this than the other. That is the normal starting condition, not a disqualifier. Reluctant partners usually come in braced for blame; most of that eases within a session or two once it is clear the work is about the pattern rather than a verdict.

Can we do it from two different places? Yes, as long as both of you are in Indiana during the session. It is one of the real advantages of the format.

Are you going to tell us whether to stay together? No. That is your decision and not your therapist’s. What therapy can do is make the decision an informed one instead of one made from exhaustion, and give you a genuine chance to change the pattern first.

Do you see individuals too? Yes. Sometimes individual work runs alongside couples work, and your therapist will be straightforward about when that makes sense.
